Photos and Description of the Bighorn River Valley vacation house rental
2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths (Accomidates 4 Adults Comfortably, maximum 8)

For those fly fishing enthusiasts; This home is located just 2 miles from the Big Horn river fishing access (known as '13 mile' to the locals) and is 12 miles from Fort Smith. This vacation property offers the ability to come to the valley to enjoy wonderful fishing on the world famous Bighorn River and not have to stay at a stuffy and over-priced lodge.

Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area's Bighorn Lake is a sport fishing, boating and water skiing destination as well. For those of you not interested in camping lakeside, this home offers all of the creature comforts you're looking for. You'll be able to spend the day on the water and be 'home' within 30 minutes to a hot shower, ice cold beverage and grill that fish you just caught

Things to do: Bring the family, there is plenty to do to keep everyone occupied. The Bighorn River valley is steeped in history. Fort C.F. Smith was just a few miles away, on the old Bozeman Trail. Little Bighorn Battlefield is approx 30 miles away. Visit Yellowtail Dam, a hydroelectric dam operated by the Bureau of Reclamation, and find out why it is so important to the valley. Billings, Montana and Sheridan, Wyoming are both great shopping and theater destinations; both are about 90 miles from the property and make nice day-trips. A well-planned day could take you to many battle sites in the region, as well as Pompey's Pillar - where you can see William Clark's signature in the sandstone bluff on the Yellowstone River.

You need a vacation!: There are only a few vacation rental properties in the area, and this is by far the best value in the valley.

Plan now for your 2013 vacation. There are plenty of prime dates available for you and your group

This property is perfect for Montanans who are tired of going to the lake and the river for only one day; it is just too much work and fuel for too little fun!

Also, it's never too early to start thinking about goose and duck hunting seasons!

About Barbara Turner

I love to vacation! My motto is 'Vacation like you mean it'! I want everyone to enjoy their time away from work and obligations. I have worked hard to make this vacation rental the most comfortable, complete and clean place imaginable.

Barbara Turner purchased this house in 2009
Why Barbara Turner chose Bighorn River Valley

This property is situated to take advantage of the best that Big Horn County and Southeast Montana has to offer. Fly fishing, sport fishing, water skiing, American and Native American history, ranching and farming, photography...What more could I ask?

What makes this house unique

The house is situated on 77 acres, which provides lots of privacy. You won't be staying in a motel, or in a cabin with another cabin 12 feet away. You will be able to hear the neighbors cattle munching grass, or a coyote yipping a greeting to the moon, not the people being rowdie in the next cabin! You can be rowdie and no one will care!

Located in Montana's Bighorn River Valley. Take I-90 Exit 495 at Hardin, Montana and follow MT Highway 313 south about 32 miles.

The great fishing in the area is attributed to Yellowtail Dam, a hydroelectric facility operated by the Bureau of Reclamation. The temperature of the water released to the river stays quite constant year-round and the big brown trout love it!

Yellowtail Dam and its afterbay dam are instrumental in flood control and irrigation in the valley. The afterbay dam also serves to regulate stream flows and minimize flow surges when the hydroelectric needs fluctuate.

Behind the dam is Bighorn Lake, a picturesque canyon lake which winds its way into Wyoming. This is a local hot spot for water skiers / tubing and sports fishing. Come here to fish for walleye and lake trout, bring your fast boat and a good camera!

There are several significant 'Indian Wars' battle sites in the Southeast region of Montana, most notably is Little Bighorn Battlefield.

Other Activities: Boating, shopping, kayaking, wildlife viewing, cross country skiing, rock climbing.

Might be the best kept secret for lodging on the Bighorn!

Recently stayed for 7 nights during a waterfowl hunting trip. With 3 people, 1 dog, a boat and tons of gear, we have always had problems with space. Not here! Plenty of room to keep the wet & dirty stuff outside and safe.

You will be very happy to return "home" each day to the comfortable furnishings and secluded location. If it's been a long day, you will most likely find yourself asleep in the big cushy chairs after a big meal cooked in a kitchen that has everything.

Barbara was on top of things from the minute I first contacted her. You don't need to worry about a thing. We started making plans to return next year on the drive back to Hardin.

Thanks for a great stay!

Fantastic Stay!

A great home away from home! This rental is equipped with everything you need to have a truly relaxing stay. The photos do not depict how clean and well maintained this home is. Barb is just an email away, answering questions and helping you plan the trip before you come and while you are there visiting. (I received a packet of brochures on attractions in the Fort Smith area weeks before my arrival date.) I would definitely recommend this property to a family looking for some quality time together or to a group of friends wanting to explore the Bighorn area!

The pictures and description doesn't due justice to how nice and well equiped the house is for guests.
The house was spotlessly clean when we arrived will all the necessary amenities and more. The location is perfect, private, nice big clean patios with tables and chairs, BBQ and most importantly
close to the BIG HORN RIVER fishing access. By the way the fishing was great lots of Browns and
Rainbows. We will definitely be back next year if not sooner.

Thank you again Barbara your home and detailed insutructions and all the amenities made our stay PERFECT!!

A Perfect Place to finish off your day of fishing on the Big Horn

5 of 5
Submitted: May 2, 2012 Stayed: April 2012
With a group of us spending every year on the Big Horn for several days enjoying the fishing we have always found one of the small cabins within the area, that is until we ran across this property. We can now say we have Found the spot we will be returning to each year, this place was fantastic. Not only was it close to the take out (important for us that fish till dark) but also easy to find off the HWY. The home is great for larger groups because you have to space to spread out and do not feel like you are on top of eachother in one of those small cabins. There is also great space to pull in with trucks pulling drift boats. You will also find a great covered porch where you can wader up and down and also hang your wet waders outside. There is great space inside the home, which is decorated to definetly feel like you are at home. There was no utensile, cooking pot/pan or spice that was not available that we needed so nice to find a fully stocked home. Also there is a great I forgot bin of common items (toothpaste, toothbrush, etc..) I know one of the guys used this. This is a great place for friends and family to come and enjoy, wether you are just traveling through the area, you come for the scenery or for an amazing fishing trip this is the place to stay. Ohhh one last point, you must enjoy wildlife if you stay here...in 4 days we saw a bucket load of pheasants, Turkey, Deer, Eagles and a host of other smaller critters. So if you are in the area and looking for a great place to stay we from the Coors Guys recommend this place and are looking forward to our next trip back soon!

Owner's Response: Thanks guys, for your kind words. The place as been a "labor of love" and I appreciate your noticing all of my little "touches" I have incorporated for making your stay enjoyable and comfortable. As an added bonus, the fishing was excellent?! Just can't get better then that!

Amazing

I had the pleasure of staying over Thanksgiving. It was great to have a place where we could bring family together and host a small dinner. We also had other family in town that were able to come and visit on Friday and we had a wonderful time sitting and just enjoying each other's company. The house had everything imaginable to be able to host a gathering. Everything from a platter, to a serving bowl and beautiful dishes, it was better than hosting it at my own house. You can tell from the vast assortment of items that much thought and planning went into the house. The bedrooms were very large and the sitting area was comfortable. It was nice to wake up every morning to a family of pheasants that were living just out from the house. We also woke up one morning to 2 does that were bedded down. Beautiful scenery and a nice secluded feel just added to the experience. My boys loved being able to play in the snow. I will definitely make the trip again! Thanks Barb for allowing me to have a beautiful Thanksgiving.
