When we spontaneously moved to Stowe in 1998 we weren’t quite sure what was in store for us. It didn’t take long for us to fall in love with the land and the community. We came here to live in a ski town and found that all the seasons were spectacular, especially the summers. After being here for 8 years we had the opportunity to buy an historic building right in the center of the village. During the year of renovating the building we had thought we would just rent the apartments to long term tenants, but after seeing the finished product we felt it would be great to share this beautiful building and location with as many people as we could. Never saw myself as an innkeeper but that’s what we are and loving it.
The Owner purchased this apartment in 2007
We didn't, it chose us.
Sitting in the living room hearing the church bells then gazing out the window and watching the snow swirl around the steeple. Watching a wedding party enter or leave the church. Stepping out the front door and being in the center of the village and having easy access to all Stowe has to offer. Strolling to Sunset Rock and catching the sunset. Biking the 6-mile recreation path, which is right out the front door. Having the library right out the back door. The walk to the coffee shop in the morning. Catching a Brookie in the river across the street. A fire on a cold night. Going downstairs and having a margarita and Burrito at Mi Casa Kitchen & Bar.

Favorite part of the house: comfy couch in front of the fire. Dozing after a long day of skiing.
Favorite part of vacation: skiing down the double black diamond, National Maya.
Maya, 6 years old-
Favorite part of house: brownies hot out of the oven
Favorite part of vacation: ski school with -12 degree F 30 mph winds. :) Tough as nails!
Frida's was outstanding. The apartment is perfect! Thanks for everything.
* Great location in middle of Stowe with easy walk to anything of interest in town
* Good people watching from windows
* Black Cap Coffee right across the street
* Free permit parking behind building
* Clean & modern
* Helpful staff in store on first floor during day
Our only complaint was low, angled ceilings in upstairs bedrooms (but we are tall).
I loved our room at the Butler House. The bed was plush and comfy, the decor was elegant and homey, the rooms were very clean and the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. (We like to cook and have at least one quiet night in when we go skiing up in Stowe.) The owner, Paul, was very friendly and accommodating. We arrived late at night and he had everything ready for us so it was easy to get into our room and unwind. I loved the inn because it was small enough that we could have privacy and not have to deal with a super busy ski lodge, but any time we wanted to get out we could walk out the front door right onto the main street in Stowe. The Mexican restaurant downstairs, Frida's, had excellent guacamole (they make it fresh in front of you) and yummy margaritas. There's also a cute toy and gift shop in the same building called Gizmo's. We had great weather for skiing on Stowe mountain. My husband and I will definitely be back next winter.
Our family of 5 stayed in the two bedroom apartment at Butler House just before Christmas 2010. We would recommend this apartment to anyone. It was spacious, clean, bright and comfortable.
We have stayed in numerous apartments around the world while travelling and this was one of the best. The attention to detail was evident everywhere, the kitchen had everything you wanted and needed, the beds and couches were very comfortable, heating was adjustable, lovely renovation. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The location was great, nice to be able to walk around the town to visit the coffee shop, the chocolate shop, supermarket, tourist info, bank etc.
Really this place was ideal, we could rest up after a long journey from Australia, go for a ski not far away and enjoy the town. We would recommend this place to anyone. The only problem is that the bar is now set so high, we will always be comparing and likely saying, “not as good as Butler House”.
Our first return to Stowe since 2006 started out dismally; a steady drizzle and a dreary motel room on the Mountain Road greeted us upon arrival from a six-hour drive. After enduring two nights, we were entertaining the idea of cutting short our holiday or moving to any of a number of our other favorite Vermont hamlets. That is, of course, until my wife noticed the photos of the Butler House apartments displayed downstairs in the building's entrance foyer; when she inquired at Gizmo's gift shop (on the ground floor) if we could take a peek, the engaging owner, Paul Biron, appeared in minutes and gave us the short tour. One look at the bright, open, immaculate studio and her plan was hatched: we're moving! The room would only be available for three nights, we were told, but another, albeit smaller, room, would be waiting for us to move into for the remainder of our 8-day tour. The Butler House quickly became our home away from home. Living in such beautiful surroundings, right smack dab in the middle of Stowe Village you can't help but become part of the local scene. Our most memorable vacations were spent in places where we are able to do this, and our stay at the Butler ranks up with the best of them. We can't say enough about the thoughtful layout, the lovingly-restored floors, the sparkling kitchen and bath and the fluffiest towels ever. Paul's attention to detail is evident everywhere: open up the fridge to find a Brita water jug. If you're hiking and need to fill up your bottles every morning, no need to spend money and the earth's resources on plastic throwaways, just refill at will in the room. Is the screen on the high-def television looking a little dusty? He's placed a bottle of professional cleaner with a soft cloth in the media cabinet; feel free to use it on your traveling MacBook, while you're at it. And coffee? No wimpy, mini-Mr. Coffee makers in these rooms. A full-size Keurig is at the ready, along with a full selection of Green Mountain k-cups. The room was also surprisingly peaceful despite the on-street location and the fact that a busy little restaurant is located directly downstairs. All in all, an exceedingly wonderful lodging experience, unconditionally recommended. Thanks to Paul and The Butler House for rescuing our Stowe vacation. (BTW, we never had to leave our room for the smaller one; Paul made arrangements so we could stay put; he might be a relative newcomer to the business of inn-keeping, but you would never know it.)
This apartment is wonderful! Beautifully furnished, charming decor, sparkling new throughout, immaculate, fully equipped kitchen, 3 tv's. The photos don't do it justice. Paul was very friendly and welcoming. Convenient location to explore town. Hopefully we'll be back next ski season!
Wow. Christmas in the snow. We were so blessed to be guests of Paul in his wonderful property. We have used VRBO before and have always been extremely satisfied. This property vastly exceeded our expectations. Everything we needed was right there. Exquisitely furnished. The location in beautiful Stowe was perfect. Rarely used the car.....Everything in walking distance. Hope to be back soon.
