Photos and Description of the Trenton vacation cabin rental
3 bedrooms with loft, 3 full baths, one with jacuzzi, sleeps 6 - 8 max

Janie's Haven was built with love and care in 2000, with hardwood floors, granite counters, and an open floor plan with French doors opening onto a large deck overlooking the ocean. The bedrooms are large and comfortable, each with its own full bath. Peace and seclusion are yours at the end of a quiet dead-end road, yet the house lies within easy driving distance from Acadia National Park, picturesque Bar Harbor, and the Quiet Side of the island. Our beautiful log home sits in a meadow on the edge of a cedar forest, with views of Western Bay and a very short walk to a semi-private stairway to the beach. Hike and see the sights in Acadia by day, go out for a gourmet dinner in Bar Harbor, then come home and enjoy ocean breezes on the deck when nights are warm, or relax by the wood stove in cooler weather. A rustic feel with modern conveniences like hi-speed internet access, a brand new gas grill, and a jacuzzi. Check Janie's Haven out on Facebook for more photos.

Our home is particularly well-placed for children. It is at the end of a dead-end street, with only one other cabin sharing the driveway, which is occupied by the owner's parents. The milky way is visible on clear nights, and the meadow is well-lit with hundreds of fireflies, especially in June. The stairs to the beach are shared with the other cabin, and the beach is very private. At high tide there is swimming, and at low tide children can go clamming or explore the coastline. Our location provides easy access to Acadia Park, with regular children's programming, or register children for the Summer Festival of the Arts in Southwest Harbor in July, or Schoodic Arts for All in Winter Harbor in August.

Leaf season is my favorite time to relax in Acadia. The deck overlooks Western Bay, and fall has the most spectacular sunsets of the year. The view of the ocean also showcases a huge maple that turns brilliant red. The days are warm, but the nights are cold, and we curl up in front of the woodstove at the end of a day hiking in the Park. With a luxury king mattress in the master bedroom, Janie's Haven becomes an ideal refuge for couples who just need to get away from it all after the summer crush has come and gone, and the winter rates make vacationing easier for couples. In the winter, Acadia is a haven for cross-country skiers and snowshoers, with over 55 miles of carriage trails to explore. Steal away for a week of peace as the snow falls over the ocean.

We are always listening to feedback from visitors to try to make our cabin more comfortable. Over the years we've added room-darkening curtains in the basement bedroom, a large sofa for the living room, new deck furniture and a new gas grill, a king bed in the downstairs bedroom, and a 42 inch LCD TV. Have any amenities you'd like to see at Janie's Haven for 2013? We'd love to hear about it - check us out on Facebook and make suggestions!

Hi, I'm Cristina. I have always loved Maine, and I moved here as soon as I graduated college in 1998. In 2000 I built Janie's Haven and lived here for 6 years. Thanks to all of you wonderful guests, we have been able to keep Janie's Haven going these past 6 years, and hopefully many more to come.

Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island abounds with recreational possibilities. Acadia has over 55 miles of carriage trails for biking, walking, cross-country skiing (we are available for winter rentals as well!), horseback riding (in some areas), and plenty of hiking trails throughout the mountains and lakes. Drive to Sand Beach and go swimming, or tour up Cadillac Mountain for incredible views. Acadia also has summer programming for birders or families with children. Sea kayaking is popular for all ages, or go on a whale watch or nature cruise. Bar Harbor itself is bustling in the summer, with excellent restaurants, a pizza movie theater, mini golf and other tourist attractions. On the 'quiet side' of the island, Acadia Repertory Theater provides more sophisticated entertainment, or enroll children in Southwest Harbor's Summer Festival of the Arts. Schoodic Peninsula's crashing waves are an easy day trip away, with Schoodic Arts for All providing summer entertainment.

Lovely home perfect for families

We had the absolute pleasure of staying at Janie's Haven in late August. We came with our two children, 3 years and 6 months, so we were a little nervous about the set-up within the house. The owner was delightful to work with before we arrived and always promptly answered my emails. She even set up a pack and play for us so we wouldn't have to bring one with us. I just can't express how thoughtful she was.

The house itself was actually even better than we expected. We told the owner the photos don't do the kitchen or bedrooms justice. This place is gorgeous, spacious, and decorated with such thoughtful touches. There is a stock of basic food items that guests replenish with leftover staples as they stay, which really helped. We had a fantastic time cooking for ourselves often and ate out on the lovely deck at sunset where you could see the water. The three levels worked very well for us as we juggled back and forth with our two little ones.

My only small suggestion was that the sun came up around 5:30am and the bright light would end up waking everyone up. We tried to use dark towels over the pretty lace curtains but it didn't really work. But then again, why not fully enjoy your day from the very start if you are in such a magical location?!

In the afternoons, we would take our 3 year to explore the beach during low tide and she would gather shells and rocks. She would hug the large rocks that would disappear with the tide to saying "I love Maine" over and over. We sadly didn't see any animals during our stay, but hopefully next time! This place is really a winner and we would be thrilled to come back.

Wonderful!

What a wonderful week! This is easily the most comfortable place we've ever rented for a family. My husband and I, our son and his wife and two granddaughters had a great week. There is so much to do in Acadia. The girls (almost 3 and 5) learned about high and low tides on the beach. The older girl became a Junior Park Ranger. We all enjoyed the ocean air and quiet nights. The cottage was clean and spacious, the deck gave a great view. We ate or prepared almost all our meals in the well-equipped kitchen. The grill was a challenge, but owner already plans an upgrade. The owner answered all emails quickly and was very helpful. I believe my son has already reccommended this place to some co-workers. We loved it!
Owner's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed your time with us! We're grateful for the feedback we received on the grill this year - without it we may not have known there was a problem until much later! We are replacing the grill as part of our yearly updates this fall (2012).

Soluitude, Relaxation, close to God and Nature!

We really enjoyed our week spent at Janie's Haven and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to relax and read a book or go site seeing. It is a wonderful area and has lots of things to see and do and the seafood is sooooo fresh and delicious! The amenities in the house were everything you would want and then some, for eating in.

We visited several places. The Fort Knox Bridge and fort were very interesting if you like history. The view from the top of the bridge was fabulous! We also went to Bar Harbor and Acadia, taking in Cadillac Mountain, Thunder Hole and a mile long walk along the Harbor. Awesome with breath taking views of the ocean! Of course there is always the shopping, for us ladies who like to shop. We also visited a couple of lighthouses. Everything was all so memorable.

In the evening we would relax in the cabin, curling up with a good book or watching a movie (large selection to choose from, both movies and books). The cabin is very spacious with lots of room to find your own corner in. Cristine did a lovely job decorating and you felt like you had met her, even though only through phone conversation. Great person to do business with! Thanks for everything and if we get back up to your neck of the woods, we know where we will be staying!

Fantastic Vacation Rental

Janie's Haven is a beautiful log home just outside Acadia National Park in a very tranquil setting. The owner was a pleasure to do business with and we will certainly consider renting this property again. The description and amenities of the home are very accurate and made our stay extremely pleasant. We enjoyed great sightseeing, antiquing, kayaking and wonderful dinners on the deck watching the sun set. Of course, delicious Maine lobster is available on every corner!

This is definitely a home to enjoy year round!

All the best,

We seldom repeat vacations, choosing to experience different places. But this house is so wonderful, I'd love to get back again next year. By far the nicest vacation house I've ever rented. The location is great. It is easy to access any part of Mt. Desert Island from here...much better than staying on one side of the island and having to trek from one side to the other for activities in different parts of Acadia. The house was as described and exceded our expectations. Cristina was a pleasure to work with. I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Thanks Cristina!
