Margie and I (Ron) have been traveling and enjoying the areas for 15 years. A few years ago we realized that we would love to spend more time in Mexico and even retire there some day. We stumbled onto this neighborhood, made the purchase and had a lot of fun filling it with furniture and local flare. After we were finished we had the idea to try to rent it a few weeks a year to help pay the expenses. Things really took off and we are fortunate enough to have an abundance of nice folks happy to rent our casa.
Ron Hart purchased this villa in 2008
Even if you tried, I don't think you could pick a better location for a get away casa. We are centrally located to all the greatest attractions, beaches, ruins, golf, fishing , cave diving, reef snorkeling cenotes and the parks.
We feel that you get the real experience of the Riviera Maya in this area, Its safe, and friendly. We love it. Every person that has experienced it just LOVES their vacation here.
The pictures and descriptions on the listing describe the place as it is. We were a group of 4 adults that wanted to visit the area and not go all-inclusive....we wanted to get out and see the sights, and we did. Xel-Ha, Xplor, Akumal Bay, the beaches of tulum, scooters on Cozumel, Playa Del Carmen, the beach across the street, Cenotes...... We did not rent a car so we relied completely on taxi, busses and collectivo - which did work easily, but a car would have been nice to have. We bought a few groceries and things and the grocery store in Tulum, and a few things from Chemuyil. We really enjoyed La Palapa restaraunt in Chemuyil. If you give him a days notice he can have lobster for you the next night. We also had pizza from Leo's and went to the bar in town a few times. We had a great time and i think we will be back. The ocean is so beautiful....we have to go back.
Our stay at Casa Margarita exceeded our expectations. Ron was very easy to deal with via email. When we arrived the property manager "Cowboy" was there to meet us. He gave us a tour of the house, the community Chan Chemuyil and then the neighbourring Mexican pueblo Chemuyil. This was extremely helpful as we could find the local cenote (beautiful and free to swim in), all the services you could need in the pueblo- laundry, convenience stores, restaurants, and the local beach. We wanted to show our kids an more authentic Mexico and not just a resort setting. Staying here allowed us to do so. We found we ventured into Chemuyil almost daily...the people were friendly and it was extremely safe.
The Casa was very clean and had everything we needed. The use of the lifejackets, beach chairs, umbrella, etc was nice on the beach.
I would recommend this rental as a safe, clean and affordable option to visiting the Mayan Riviera.
What a great place! We spent over a month here and cant wait to visit again. The community is filled with friendly people. The home is clean and well equiped. There are bikes to ride the many trails, and 3 nearby cenotes to cool off in.
Air conditioners work great and the beds are comfortable. There is a private back yard with a BBQ grill, and a line to dry wet suits.
Everything you need to be comfortable is right here.
The reviews my wife and I read before vacationing here paint a clear but almost to good to be true picture of the house, neighboring village, local beach and people. It sounded so fantastic we booked for a month and are extremely happy to say it's all true.
We had one of the best months of our lives.
The house and furnishings provided for our every comfort, the village for our every need, the beach and water our every want. The people in both the community and the village were great, and the location was ideal for venturing out to experience remote, less traveled places while providing us a small town, safe place to come home to.
We can't recommend a stay here hightly enough.
The web site accurately portrays this rental property near the Mayan village of Chemuyil. It was clean and well-equipped, with beach towels and beach chairs (which we didn't use, as we were always walking.) We were very comfortable (4 of us) and loved the beach across the road, especially the cenote close to that beach, and the "jungle shortcut" from the sub-division to the road. We easily walked to the village for groceries and a few meals, especially enjoying an outdoor grilled chicken place. We bought all our meat, fruit and vegetables there. The kitchen in the house had many dry herbs and spices as well as cooking oil, which was nice. We also used the grill outside, having bought fresh grouper and shrimp at a fish market in Tulum. We did not have a car, but it was easy to catch a collectivo to go to the Tulum ruins or wherever. The drivers seem to know the sub-division drop-off place without you telling them. It's good to have some Spanish. We enjoyed another cenote a km. or so west of the house. No one else was swimming there the day we went. The Xcacel Beach was the best anywhere. We could come and go all day for one small fee ($1). The snorkeling was good. It took us 5-10 minutes to walk there and less to ride a bike. It took 10 minutes, maybe, to walk to the village, which is one of the more prosperous Mayan villages we have ever seen. There are two internet places, several grocery stores. All in all, it was a lovely vacation!
We (a family of four with kids aged 13 and 11) have just come back from our four weeks' vacation for which we had rented Casa Margarita. Summarized: WHAT A GREAT HOLIDAY!
The house is wonderful, located between Akumal and Tulum (with various beautiful and not at all crowded - sometimes even rather lonely - beaches close by; our favourites were the turtle beach just a couple of minutes' walk from the house and north Akumal's "Half Moon Bay") in a quiet neighbourhood (a new estate), and the people in the village of Chemuyil (where there are shops, restaurants, internet cafes and even a cleaner's) are all extremely friendly. We felt safe and welcome.
We spent the first week of our holiday relaxing at the beaches and cenotes close by, in the second week we started making some trips to the "usual" places like Tulum, Coba, Chichen Itza, Ek-Balam plus spent two days on Isla Holbox where we snokeled with whale sharks. Then we went off to Belize (Caye Caulker, San Ignacio etc.) and Guatemala (Tikal and Flores) to come back to the Casa Margarita again for the last days of our holidays. So due to the relatively low rental price (in particular for a full month) the casa is great as a sort of "base camp" (especially if you have a rental car, which we had; my recommendation: "Caribbean Rent a Car" - cancunrentacar.com - as they are the cheapest ones including insurance with zero reduction in case of an accident or a theft). But if you want to stay at the same spot for your whole holiday, Casa Margarita is equally ideal!
The beds (a double in one bedroom, two singles in the other) are very comfortable (which I find extremely important as I get backaches otherwise), the kitchen is equipped with everything you might need incl. a wide stove with oven, a microwave, fruitpress etc.. Furthermore, there are two good bicycles, beach chairs, a boogie board etc..
The only thing the house hasn't got (yet?) is a TV, but I must say that we were happy there wasn't one, as that left us more family time for board and card games. (Instead there is a handy iPod station!)
Ron, the landlord, is very nice and very helpful (he made a wonderful booklet for the renters of his house with lots of helpful information, e.g. regarding beaches and restaurants around, rental of boats etc.), likewise is Shelly, the housekeeper, who lives just down the road.
All in all, I can truely recommend Casa Margarita! Book it, you won't regret it!
We are 45 minutes south of the Cancun airport, 25 minutes south of Playa Del Carmen, 3 minutes south of Akumal and 12 minutes north of Tulum and the Tulum ruins and beaches. Coba ruins are about 30 minutes away. We are 3 minutes away from Xel Ha waterpark and nature preserve and surrounded by lots of cenotes.
Other Activities: We always suggest the beach right across the street. Its one of the best in the world. The Tulum ruis only 15 minutes away is a must see for a quick tour. If you liked the Tulum ruins, Coba ruins (the tallest in the Yucatan) are only another 20 minutes away.
Our favorite Mexico restaurant is only a half mile away in the charming village of Chemuyil. El Parque. Two people can feast for around 10.00 for dinner!
Lots and lots to do. Waterparks are a hit with the kids and lots of opportunity for the fisherman, golfer, snorkeler, diver, beach bums, photographers, bird watchers and explorers.
Golf: About the area:
I'm not a big golfer, but I know many people come to the area and rave about the courses in the area. I will get more info for you guys on this.
