About Ed Acela

My Wife, Father and I purchased our home in Estes Park in October of 2000. My father had traveled to Colorado many times with his parents as a kid. When he shared the mountain experience with me for the first time I knew I would always come back. We chose Estes Park as the people here are great and the atmosphere in town is very warm and inviting. In the spring there is lush green and wildflowers. Summer offers beautiful scenery and cool mountain air. Fall abounds with golden aspen and wildlife to include elk, deer, rabbit and even the occasional bear. Winters are mild and there is even downhill skiing and snow boarding within an hours drive. With just five minutes to downtown Estes or the entrance to RMNP we knew this was home.

Ed Acela purchased this house in 2000

Why Ed Acela chose Estes Park

Our family enjoys sitting on the deck and watching the clouds roll in over Longs Peak in the afternoon while our three daughters use grandpa’s binoculars searching the mountain sides and looking at the humming birds. The sky is so blue and the smell of pine trees in the air is relaxing while my wife enjoys a favorite book. Many evenings are spent grilling on the deck and eating as a family at the picnic table. Many nights are spent talking and telling stories next to the fire in the living room and planning the next days hike around Estes or in Rocky Mountain National Park.

What makes this house unique

A breathtaking view and herds of elk in the yard, along with the quiet secluded area and large moss rock fireplace are a few of the unique features of our cabin. We also have an arcade size pinball machine this is just twenty five cents per play for your added enjoyment.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Ed,

We had a lovely time getting to know our future daughter-in-law and catching up with our sons. The view is spectacular as promised.

A great place to relax and enjoy the views after a fun day of skiing at Eldora. Plenty of room for everyone in our group. Close to everything in Estes but far enough away felt very private. Even had a herd of elk bed down in the yard. I will definitely stay here again.

Excellent vacation home

  • 4 of 5

I was the last to arrive at the house in the evening. Our rooms were all spacious and the beds were in great shape. The next morning I was treated to the breathtaking views to the south. The house was far enough away from Estes Park to allow the night sky to fill with stars but close enough for us to run for the last-minute items and hit the main street shops.

The owners were a pleasure to work with. I would recommend staying at the House on the Rocks.

Location, Location, Location!

House on the Rocks is in a perfect place. The house is close to town but not right in the fray. It's close to the National Park but not on the main drag. It has a breathtaking view but there are no mountain roads to climb. It is in a neighborhood but the neighbors aren't right on top of you.

The house is older in an established neighborhood just a stone's throw from Estes Park and RMNP. The rooms are large and everything was very clean when we arrived.

The laundry area is very nice and the 2 women who stayed on the top floor (our sisters) were delighted to find a laundry chute so they didn't have to come downstairs to drop off their dirty clothes. We didn't use the washer and dryer much but, when we did, laundry detergent was supplied. Nice for us so that we didn't have to buy it and then leave it when we flew home. There is an iron and ironing board, too! I used them and was glad they are there.

The bathrooms are older but I love the tan colored tub, sink and toilet. My husband and I were in the basement bedroom and used the downstairs bathroom. The shower in that bathroom is amazing! Plenty of lovely hot water and tremendous water pressure. The house is equipped with huge fluffy towels too!

The kitchen is well equipped but we didn't use it much. We cooked a few meals but mostly ate out or packed picnic lunches to eat while we explored. We were thankful for the coffee maker and for the dishwasher.

The bedrooms are quite large with lots of closet space and chest of drawers for all belongings. I had a little trouble finding a bed that was comfortable for me and my husband together. On the third night one of the sisters discovered a foam mattress cover in her closet and we put that on our bed. After that I slept like a rock.

The living area is very large with a big fireplace and three sofas. We rearranged the furniture a bit (fixed it before we left) so that the 2 largest sofas faced the TV. The living room area includes the dining room table. It easily seats 6 people and has a gorgeous view.

The view . . . STUPENDOUS! It changes constantly and is always stunning. There is a very large deck that we used often, especially as the sun rose and set. We were there during the elk rut and could listen to elk bugling in the distance. The stars are amazing and, on a clear night you can see the Milky Way.

House on the Rocks is not fancy but it's wonderful. We would love to stay here again. It is so quiet and in such a beautiful spot.

Wonderful stay in The House on the Rocks

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in your Estes home. We were a pretty large group of family members and your large home and bedrooms accommodated us beautifully. The view from your windows and deck was amazing! It took our breath away every day. The home was clean and nicely decorated and had everything we needed. It is located close to the park and town. We hiked every day and did lots of Estes activities in the afternoons and evenings.

The owners were great to work with.

We'd love to come back many more times!

Wonderful and spacious home!!

  • 5 of 5

Our group of six (parents of two college kids plus 2 of their college friends) had a much needed vacation from work and school. This home was more than enough room to spread out and take peaceful naps after our outdoor excursions. We played games every night around the spacious dining room table and living room. We enjoyed cooking out and eating on the deck with the amazing picturesque view of the mountains. The three college guys roomed downstairs with their own bathroom which was a perfect setup for them and allowed privacy for all when needed. The only problem was that we didn't have enough time there and weren't ready to leave. Thanks Ed and Aaron for everything! House on the Rocks was voted my family's favorite place we've ever stayed in Estes Park. ~The Andersons' from Texas
