Overview

Taos House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-9)

The adobe walls of Tierra Madre are cool in the summer and warm in winter. This spacious home was designed with the comfort of guests in mind. An adobe house feels like no other. Heavy beams (vigas) span the ceilings in the traditional manner while thick plaster coats the walls. Warmth is provided by radiant floor heat. Imagine living as the Pueblo Indians have for thousands of years, but with all of the modern conveniences. Yes, you can even bring your own notebook computer and enjoy the free wi-fi.

Tierra Madre is north of town, just 15 minutes from the ski valley and five minutes from town. You will feel like you have come home as you snuggle under down comforters and build a fire in the Kiva fireplace. Everything is provided from an espresso coffeemaker to comfortable chairs for those afternoons when all you want to do is read a book.

The outside hot tub is the perfect place to watch shooting stars dart across the dark skies of Taos. For those of you who can't get enough of the great outdoors an adobe walled flagstone patio overlooks the vast expanse of BIA land (Indian Pueblo land). Only an occasional cow can be seen from this private getaway.

It is obvious why the famous painter RC Gorman chose to live right across the road. This is a place of special beauty.

About Jim

After years of owning our own business we decided it was time for Chapter Two(or three). We lived in Tanzania, Guyana and Ukraine working for the US Peace Corps for about 10 years. As of January 2014 Jim is back in Taos and Anne commutes from Taos to different Peace Corps location around the World on short term assignments.

Jim purchased this house in 2003

Why Jim chose Taos

We vacationed in Taos in 1990's and fell in love with it. We returned time and time again until We bought a house in 1999 and moved to Taos in 2000. We loved the year round beauty of the mountains, the artists, and fantastic sunshine. We finally found the perfect piece of land to build a custom home and built a home with the views, comfort and privacy as our first 3 priorities. It has BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs)land on 2 sides for maximum privacy. It is located between Taos and Ski Valley , close to everything yet it is a relaxing private place.

What makes this house unique

Sunset views, mountain views. Sitting on the flagstone patio sipping on my morning coffee, soaking up the sunshine and the beautiful views. The perfect way to start the day.

After a great day of skiing, hiking, hitting the river, biking or taking in some new galleries I love to wait until after dark, turn out all the house lights and go out to the Jaccuzzi and just sit in the dark with the jets off and watch the bright stars.

October 2014 vacation

We had an absolutely wonderful time staying at your Casita. The Casita was clean, well maintained, well laid out floor plan, plenty of comfortable seating, killer views from every window, and great kitchen. It is conveniently located to accommodate anyone’s desire to get out and explore this area of New Mexico. It is also located close enough to Taos for those short trips into town for supplies or a nice dinner out. The furnishings were nice, the TV in the den had great a picture and good sound quality, and the Internet was fast and easy to connect to our wireless items. This is one of the best places we have stayed at in New Mexico. We look forward to staying with you on our next trip. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home.

This place is great, clean, comfortable, quiet. It is close to town and very close to the road leading to the mountains. Everything you need is in the house. I would recommend it to those looking for a comfortable and peaceful place to stay. It is also very spacious.

Ahh, Taos! We miss Tierra Madre and the Northern Tiwa Tribe!

  • 5 of 5
This was our first trip to New Mexico and many people said to me, "Why are you going to New Mexico?!" And I said, "why not!?!" Well, let me tell you, this vacation home was fabulous! I mean fabulous! It was such a beautiful home to call our "home base". We enjoyed wonderful meals in the home and felt very "at home". During our travels around the Taos area we fell in love with the North Tiwa's (Native Americans). What a sweet area of New Mexico! This location is close to whitewater rafting (Fun), the Taos Pueblo, hidden hot springs (clothing optional), the Taos Ski Valley, shops, dining, live music, hiking and more! We did not want to leave Tierra Madre and we certainly hope to return for another visit in the near future! And, by the way, the sunsets from the backyard are phenomenal! I didn't want to miss even on sunset! WOW! Our evenings were spent stargazing from the gorgeous hot tub. The stars are spectacular in the high desert! WOWSA!!! We traveled here with our 3 children (15, 12 and 8) and each of us had a wonderful time here at this home that is equipped with everything you could possibly need and then some! Thank you so much for opening you home to us!

Tranquil Beautiful Home

  • 5 of 5
My family (husband, two teenage children and myself) had a wonderful stay at Tierra Madre. The house itself is beautiful and very peaceful. The views of the mountains and desert are fabulous , from the picture windows we saw wildlife, snow, stars. The location is private and quiet but very easily accessible to Taos and it's surrounding attractions. This lovely home made our visit perfect.

Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5
My family has been skiing at Taos Ski Valley for 15 years and this is the nicest house we've ever rented! Beautiful open concept left plenty of room for my son and dog to play while we relaxed by the fire place. We will definitely book this house for our future trips!

Will Be Planning a Return Trip

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I came up from Albuquerque for a short get away. We were looking for someplace clean, nice, quiet and relaxing. Tierra Madre passed with flying colors for our entire stay.

The pictures do not do the home justice. Beautifully appointed home with gorgeous surroundings. Views out the picture window of the mountain range are incredible and furniture, including bed was very comfortable. The kitchen did indeed have everything we could want. Radiant floor heating kept the toes warm even with snow on the ground outside. It was great to watch from the private hot tub as the sun set and stars came out at night. Variety of games and puzzles in one of the bedroom closets. They have a THICK STACK of books, maps, and custom created binders filled with maps and activities in the area, sorted by season/activity/ or location in the state. An excellent resource if you're new to the area, or looking for ideas on how to spend your time. Great to read by the fireplace with music coming from the iPhone ready stereo in the living room. (Great acoustics by the way with an open living area, vega wood ceilings, adobe walls, and carpets on the floor).

Owners were very prompt in their responses and were friendly and flexible. After having looked into several other properties in the area, I really appreciate that their price is their price, and there are no "other" fees that will jack the cost of your stay up. Honest people.

Finally, we will definitely return to this location in the future. It would be a great launch point for hiking, fishing, snow play, exploring taos and the circle of lakes region, or just a quiet retreat from the ongoing business of life.

This is a prime location to stay at located in between Taos and Taos Ski valley. Close to Taos for groceries, restaurants, and shopping, yet also close to Ski valley for skiing and forest hiking. Close but so nice with the quiet relaxing location It has BIA (federal land) on 2 sides so there are vast views of sunsets out the back windows or from the patio. Great views of the sunrise and the mountains out the front windows.
