Overview

Taos House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-9)

The adobe walls of Tierra Madre are cool in the summer and warm in winter. This spacious home was designed with the comfort of guests in mind. An adobe house feels like no other. Heavy beams (vigas) span the ceilings in the traditional manner while thick plaster coats the walls. Warmth is provided by radiant floor heat. Imagine living as the Pueblo Indians have for thousands of years, but with all of the modern conveniences. Yes, you can even bring your own notebook computer and enjoy the free wi-fi.

Tierra Madre is north of town, just 15 minutes from the ski valley and five minutes from town. You will feel like you have come home as you snuggle under down comforters and build a fire in the Kiva fireplace. Everything is provided from an espresso coffeemaker to comfortable chairs for those afternoons when all you want to do is read a book.

The outside hot tub is the perfect place to watch shooting stars dart across the dark skies of Taos. For those of you who can't get enough of the great outdoors an adobe walled flagstone patio overlooks the vast expanse of BIA land (Indian Pueblo land). Only an occasional cow can be seen from this private getaway.

It is obvious why the famous painter RC Gorman chose to live right across the road. This is a place of special beauty.

About Jim

After years of owning our own business we decided it was time for Chapter Two(or three). We lived in Tanzania, Guyana and Ukraine working for the US Peace Corps for about 10 years. As of January 2014 Jim is back in Taos and Anne commutes from Taos to different Peace Corps location around the World on short term assignments.

Jim purchased this house in 2003

Why Jim chose Taos

We vacationed in Taos in 1990's and fell in love with it. We returned time and time again until We bought a house in 1999 and moved to Taos in 2000. We loved the year round beauty of the mountains, the artists, and fantastic sunshine. We finally found the perfect piece of land to build a custom home and built a home with the views, comfort and privacy as our first 3 priorities. It has BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs)land on 2 sides for maximum privacy. It is located between Taos and Ski Valley , close to everything yet it is a relaxing private place.

What makes this house unique

Sunset views, mountain views. Sitting on the flagstone patio sipping on my morning coffee, soaking up the sunshine and the beautiful views. The perfect way to start the day.

After a great day of skiing, hiking, hitting the river, biking or taking in some new galleries I love to wait until after dark, turn out all the house lights and go out to the Jaccuzzi and just sit in the dark with the jets off and watch the bright stars.

Everything Anyone Could Want!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a long weekend in Taos this past weekend. We had quite a few tentative plans to get out and about, however, this house was so beautiful, the views so wonderful, and the hot tub so perfect, we ended up just staying in a lot and getting more relaxation that we had in a long while. The house is in the _perfect_ location--not too far from the town, the ski area, hiking, and the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge--but also wonderfully private. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful House

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at this home. It was bigger than I had pictured - the rooms and hallways just generally had big proportions. This was great because we had brought cots/pack-n-plays for little kids to sleep on and all the bedrooms had plenty of floor space for that. The hot tub is right outside the back door and so nice to have with amazing stars at night. The house felt very private with the windows mostly looking out onto vacant land. The house was set up well for two families- we had a couple with a baby in the master and a couple with two little kids in the second two bedrooms. We both felt like we had our own space, and plenty of it.

The owner was very responsive, showing up within a couple of hours with a new microwave when the one at the house stopped working (thank you!). My deposit was refunded the day we checked out with no deductions.

We stayed a week and skied every day. Wile the drive up to the mountain was a bit of a pain, we were always able to park very close to the children's ski school (i.e. we could walk there, didn't need to take a shuttle), probably a shorter walk than if we had stayed in TSV. Also, the children's ski school was our favorite so far. Each kid has a cubby so they can store ski boots/helmet/etc. overnight, which makes getting the kids to and from school so much easier. The kids had the same instructor 6 days straight, and when up on the mountain the groups had two instructors with them. While it would have been nice to stay up on the mountain, this house was so much cheaper with so much for space that staying here made a lot of sense.

Thank you for a wonderful visit!

Great Sanctuary Outside of Taos

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a great place to celebrate my birthday with family and friends and found it in this lovely spot just outside of Taos. Beautiful home with all the amenities, including w/d, bread maker, ice cream maker and dishwasher. There's even a hot tub to soak those tired muscles. I'd definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet sanctuary close to Taos.

Beautiful home with spectacular views and good location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a great trip to Taos with our 2 dogs and enjoyed the home which was very clean and well maintained. Kitchen was immaculate with all the cookware, utensils, knives, etc. Grilled in the evenings and watched beautiful sunsets. Linens, towels, artwork, etc. was spectacular and would rent again. Good location for town and also close to access for Ojo spa, hiking, trails, et. Owner very nice and helpful.........Thank you, Jim!

Beautiful NM House with Great Views

  • 5 of 5

The house is spacious, with big windows overlooking the valley and mountains-- great for watching the sunset and stargazing. We found the location to be wonderfully quiet but still close to Taos town center. The bedrooms are all beautiful as well as the nice patio. We used the kitchen quite a bit, which was fully equipped. Relatively easy access to hiking trails within 15 minutes. Overall this was a great house for a 4 person family vacation!

Great house, beautifully kept

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4 days at Tierra Madre and can only say that it exceeded expectations. It had more space than we thought and in particular, the wonderful multicultural art throughout the house was a real surprise. No question we'd stay again!

This is a prime location to stay at located in between Taos and Taos Ski valley. Close to Taos for groceries, restaurants, and shopping, yet also close to Ski valley for skiing and forest hiking. Close but so nice with the quiet relaxing location It has BIA (federal land) on 2 sides so there are vast views of sunsets out the back windows or from the patio. Great views of the sunrise and the mountains out the front windows.
