Lake Activities and Whitewater rafting:
Forebay reservoir is just 2 blocks from the house, there are a few short hiking trails near the reservoir. For those like fishing, you might be able to catch a fish for your dinner from the reservoir. Driving 4-5 miles will take you to the beautiful Jenkinsen Lake, where you'll find numerous biking and hiking trails. You can do water-ski, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Paddle boats and motorboats are available for rental.
Cascading down from the Sierra Nevada runs the West Coast's most popular whitewater resource - the South Fork of the American River. An intermediate (Class III) river, the South Fork American River is suitable for kids 7 to 75! There are over fifty wineries throughout the county in the areas of Gold Hill, Apple Hill, Camino, Pleasant Valley and Fair Play. Enjoy Barbera, Zinfandel, Shiraz, and many other fine varieties as well as the great hospitality extended by our vintners. There is also a group of wineries in the Apple Hill area known as the Apple Hill Wine Trail.
Gold Panning and Gold Mines:
Marshall Gold Discovery State Park in Coloma offers attractions, exhibits, and events to keep the family busy all day.Gold Bug Mine and Park the 362-foot hard rock mine, gift shop, stamp mill, hiking trails and gold panning make for a terrific outdoor adventure for the whole family. Successful panners enjoy mining on most of the forks and creeks flowing into the American and Cosumnes Rivers.
