Our Family's Favorite Vacation Home!

This has been by far our family's favorite vacation experience, which may explain why we have come here on six different occasions over the past 25+ years. Our first experience was with three little girls 7 and under. This year we were there with our adult children and three grandchildren. The owner has always been extremely helpful with any issues and recommendations. The home is situated high up above the Mauna Kea hotel and has an incredible 180° view of the ocean. What captures you when you walk in are the stunning views in every direction, as the home was designed to bring the outdoors in with glass doors surrounding the living and dining area. Yet with all the open space, you still have lots of privacy, as none of adjoining homes have a view into the backyard, in fact you can't even see them. The layout of the home is ideal for children of all ages, including infants. With 8 of us there plus an infant, we never lacked for space or privacy. This year our daughter and son-in-law stayed in the master bedroom with their 14 month old (a crib was provided), while my wife and I stayed in the back bedroom, which just as nice as the master. Each bedroom has separate entrances and their own bath, which gives privacy and makes it possible for four couples to use the home (though the 4th bedroom has single beds and is smaller than the other three). There is also a full bath just off the kitchen and dining area. Each of the bedrooms is air conditioned, while ceiling fans operate on the main dining and living area. We ate most of our dinners outdoors to enjoy the evening air and sunsets, but the dining room table was large enough to accommodate all of us. The kitchen is not luxurious, but fully equipped and more than adequate for informal island living. The Hotel has been remodeled after the earthquake and one has full use of the beach facilities. The beach is rated the best beach on the Big Island. We agree – you can swim 1/4 mile laps in the calm of the morning, snorkel both sides of the lagoon and see turtles, and play in the surf (which is child friendly). I vowed I'd never go to a luau, but my wife convinced me to take our granddaughters, and it was an incredible experience. For added variety, you also have full privileges at the Hapuna Beach Hotel next door, which has a spectacular infinity pool. For my money, there's nothing like waking before sunrise, pouring a cup of Kona coffee, reading a psalm and taking in the untold beauty, day after day after day.
