Overview

Sovicille Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Farmhouse, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5)

Borgo Portagioia is part of an ancient convent just outside the walls of Siena, offering guests wonderful views, peaceful environment and a deliciously restored country home with Siena terracotta floors, stone walls, beamed ceilings and very beautiful finishing touches. The outside of the apartment offers a well kept garden, a lovely patio with table, chairs and BBQ for outside eating and relaxing. Borgo Portagioia country home Legnaia is an ideal base for taking both short and long breaks. Its key position, only 5 minutes drive from Siena, allows guests to enjoy all the fascinating city has to offer without giving up on peace and privacy only a country home can guarantee. A break at this Siena country house is ideal for taking a language course, enjoying the Palio of Siena, taking wine tasting tours, all of which we can organize for you.

Legnaia, whose name means woodshed, was converted from the original woodshed of Borgo Portagioia, part of an ancient convent. The country home sits on the right corner of the property and is accessed from a welcoming terraced patio at the front of the house. The large arched glass doors lead you right into the large open living area, with lounge, fireplace and fully equipped kitchen. The back of the house hosts a double and a twin bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. The front terrace is equipped with table, chairs, loungers, BBQ and umbrellas.

Legnaia shares the entrance gate with just one other independent, 2 bedroom house. Please contact us for details.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Erica,

We would like to thank you so much for providing the wonderful itineraries in your Borgo la Chiusa booklet. We followed 3 of the "trips" and had a truly fabulous time both driving thru the Tuscan hills and visiting uncrowded sites. And we didn't get lost even once!

We intended on completing the Val di Merse, Montagnola, and Chianti itineraries but we had such a great time everywhere that we only finished parts of Val di Merse and Montagnola and never made it to Chianti!

We spent several hours each at San Galgano, Radiacondoli, Casole d'Elsa, and Pieva Di Penina because they were so beautiful and interesting. There were other places we planned to visit, but we ran out of time, so it just means we have more to come back for!

By the way, the gardens at Centinale were closed for renovation--something else to see when we return. We are definitely slow travelers to Italy and share your love of the beautiful sights and peaceful tranquility Tuscany has to offer.

We especially appreciated Casole d'Elsa because they made it so easy to navigate the scooter up to the hilltop by providing elevators. That was an unexpected treat!

We also again want to thank you and Francesca for helping us navigate our way to Siena--we followed the instructions and for the first time we didn't get lost! We even went back there one more time before leaving Italy!

We would be remiss also If we didn't offer thanks for the wonderful restaurant suggestions. We ate in a bunch of them and found all to be wonderful!

Our two weeks in Tuscany were everything we hoped for and more, and we will be sure to recommend you to any of our friends who are thinking of a Tuscan holiday. Thank you so much.

Arriverderci and Mille Grazie!

What a find!

  • 5 of 5
Six of us stayed in the larger 4 bedroom unit June 8 through 15, 2013. We found the accommodations to be everything we hoped for; clean, well appointed, spacious, great location - a short drive to Siena, a Co-op market, and local restaurant. Francesca who manages the villa (owner?) went above expectations in making our stay memorable. She made reservations and assisted with transportation to dinner our first night as the large car we had reserved at the airport was unavailable. She made certain we knew where to shop for groceries, how to get to Siena and back by bus (even providing bus tickets and schedule), and was always prompt to go the extra step. When it rained, she appeared with rain ponchos and umbrella. When the weather turned hot and we used the pool, she brought us pool towels. The villa has all you need to fix a meal or BBQ. There is also a large pizza oven in the alcove near the front door. The patio has comfortable seating and lounge chairs as well as an outdoor dining area. The unit has a washing machine and a clothes rack to dry laundry outside. There is also an iron/ironing board, hair dryers, coffee maker, electric tea kettle, TV, and Wi-Fi. The only thing we were lacking was another week at this lovely villa.

For those who do not speak Italian, do not worry. Francesca speaks a little English and her son speaks English quite well. We hope to someday return to this villa and will highly recommend it to our friends

We spent a week in the biggest apartment with another family. 4 adults and 4 children. It was a perfect apartment for 2 families. The aprtment is clean and in very godd condition as well as the area outside. The family owners was arund and very helpful. The pool was clean and very nice. You need to have a car to be in the areay and to get around. Coop store is arouns 15 minutes by car away. Good restaurant from 5 - 15 minutes away

Ideal location and set-up for 3 generational family!

  • 5 of 5
What a wonderful set-up we had for ourselves, daughter, husband and 3 boys aged 10,5 and 3! It was everything we had hoped for and envisioned when talking about a week with a "villa in Tuscany"--including the weather. The property was very well maintained; private; furnishings and amenities added to the peacefulness and relaxation. Day trips galore included Siena, Pisa,Lucca, Florence, San Gimignano and Montalcino.

Idyllic to have adults toasting and sipping wine after a busy day while the kids enjoyed the cool(in more than one way!) pool and playing ball. A grocery store and two very nice restaurants are within a 10 minute drive. Francesca and Alessandro outdid themselves with an unforgettable farewell multi course dinner (and 3rd birthday!)-- including wine and Lemoncello- for us on the patio, complete with a gorgeous sunset over the rolling hills! What more could you ask for?????

Wonderfully Relaxing

  • 5 of 5
We spent a wonderful week at Legnaia, the property is lovely and is beautifully maintained with stunning views of the countryside. Francesca and her son Alessandro were fantastic hosts and gave us plenty of information regarding shopping and transport etc. It is well placed to explore the sights of Tuscany and we would recommend a car although we did catch the bus into Sienna. Some of our favourite towns were San Gimingano, Montepulciano (park at the bottom of the town and catch the bus to the top) the Chianti trail and of course Sienna. We would love to stay here again

A Lovely House Near Magical Siena

  • 5 of 5
Six of us had a wonderful week in this lovely house. For our arrival, the owners provided us with directions in Italian to give our taxi driver at the Siena train station, but at the last minute we ended up arriving in a rental car, so we had to figure out on our own how to find the house. It turned out to be easy, and it also was easy to get into town or explore the countryside. The owners were very communicative before our arrival, and readily available while we were there. The house is clean, bright, nicely furnished, well-equipped, and worked well for three couples to share, which is often hard to find.

One tip: you can't buy a ticket for the bus on the bus, nor can you buy one in town. It can be an expensive penalty if you're caught, so do try to buy your bus tickets ahead of time. We only had to use the bus once, and boarded without tickets. We rode into town in fear of an official boarding the bus and handing out penalties, which didn't happen.

We visited Siena on several different days, including a self-guided contrada scavenger hunt in which we tried to find the headquarters of each contrada (success!). If you're staying here in the autumn, do go see the floors of the Siena Duomo, which are covered most of the year. They are utterly spectacular, as is the whole cathedral. We also got up early on a Sunday morning to go hear live Gregorian chanting in the ancient abbey of Sant'Antimo, a serene and lovely place. And we drank A LOT of good local wine!

Take the owners' advice and book a tour with Dario--he's fantastic, and easy to correspond with ahead of time via email.

This was a great base for a fantastic week of exploring the region around Siena, and we'd recommend it to anyone. We'd also gladly return!
