The apartment was a great choice for us. We were a group of friends traveling together and the place was spacious enough for us and all our traveling gear. The two bedrooms have really comfortable beds (something rarely true in a lot of rentals) and giant windows filtering in lots of light and overlooking a typical Lisboan street with beautiful architecture. The windows open fully, and also tilt open a bit at the top, allowing for really effective climate control even on a hot day. The apartment has a great kitchen, actually pretty big as well, and really functional. We cooked a meal or two there, but mostly ate out because Lisbon has great food. Even the diner across the street was delicious and cheap. The living room has cable and wifi, though truthfully not much used since we were out exploring, and it was comfy and homey and nicely decorated. The location is great, too, a 10 or 15 minute walk to the subway as well as a commuter train line that takes you out to Cascais and other beaches. There are buses and trolleys that run right in front of the building, so transit is easy. The apartment is a quick walk up the hill to the Chiado/Baxia/Barrio Alto areas with lots of restaurants, shops, bars, etc. Our host directed us to some really cool, hidden places that we wouldn't have found on our own. He also has a huge basket of maps, travel books, brochures, etc. on the area and gave us his own map with local resources, like grocers, banks, favorite restaurants, etc. The immediate neighborhood has some banks, small grocers, something akin to a US walgreens, pharmacia, restaurants, etc, but isn't a hugely bustling street. For me that was perfect because Lisboan nightlife is lively, so it's nice to have a quiet place to come home to, and the neighborhoods with more nightlife are so close by. Oh, and there's a washer in the unit, so we were able to launder mid-trip, which was really useful! All in all, a great place to stay that I'd highly recommend.

We were a group of 4 people (2couples) and we stayed in the apartment for 4nights at the beginning of September. The owner, José, lives in the same building and was the most welcoming and helpful host we could have hoped for. As this was our first stay in Portugal and Lisbon it was great having José who answered all our questions; where to eat (he even called to make a reservation for us at a restaurant one evening) where to park our car, what to see during our short stay in Lisbon, he recommended the best nearby convenience shops for supplies, what scenic route to take when traveling to the South of Portugal to our next destination.
The apartment was very clean and functional but also tastefully furnished and decorated. We had everything we needed in the apartment. Also, the fact that the apartment is on the 4th floor we found it to be an advantage as the streets are very narrow in the centre of Lisbon and living in an apartment on lower floors might feel a bit claustrophobic as the only view out from the apartment would be the building right across the street and no glimpse of the sky. Being on the 4th floor, the apartment was filled with light from early on in the morning until sunset and from one of the bedrooms the Cristo Rei monument can be seen between the roof tops...was a nice view especially at night time when the monument is lit. Lastly the apartment was a great base for exploring Lisbon as it's nearby both public transport as well as the central attractions that can be reached easily on foot.

If we return to Lisbon would definitely stay in this apartment again and would recommend it to anyone without hesitation. Lastly we have to thank José for making our first stay in Lisbon a very pleasant experience.

I arrived on March 14, 2011 and wanted a long term, safe and convenient apartment for 3 months, however, Jose had the apartment spoken for 3 weeks after my arrival for 3 weeks. I had friends in Holland that invited me for those 3 weeks and I returned to Lisbon on May 2. I chose this site because of the prior reviews, not knowing the language nor anyone in Lisbon I felt comfortable with his apartment across the hall. He is thoughtful, helpful and a considerate landlord. When I got homesick, he would suggest places to go and things to see and on occasion went out with me. I found the apartment clean and comfortable and convenient to shops, downtown, train, boat, bus and Metro connections. I couldn't have had a more enjoyable stay. I would also highly recommend the Inside Lisbon Tours that made sightseeing around the Lisbon region enjoyable, fun and relaxing. I am a fit 68 year old female and while the stairs are a challenge it gives you a daily workout. Markets are convenient and bus/tram stops as well, once you learn the system. I would recommend this apartment for its central, historical and walking location and highly recommend for owner's friendliness and helpfulness. Jose called for taxis for early AM departures and even met my late night arrival when I arrived back from Holland. I look forward to hosting Jose any time he chooses to come to Oregon, USA.
