Reykjavik Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

The 3-room apartment is the Reykjavik home of an artist family that is based in Reykjavik and Berlin. It has been designed by the owner in a personal unique way. The apartment is ideally situated for tourists close to everything. It is THE center of Reykjavik. The heart.

The apartment is clean and tidy up to hotel standards with linen, towels and little extras provided.

The mattresses on the beds are new and care for your health. The kitchen was recently custom made by the same carpenter that build the kitchen for Bjork. The bathroom is also recently renovated. Personal music and book library, family furniture and eccentric items make the apartment cosy and warm and ideal for feeling like a local. This is how we lived before all the tourists came.

The house is a typical 1930s construction with 3 apartments, one on each floor plus a basement and a back garden. In the basement there is a washing room with washing machine. Young families live in the other apartments. The apartment is on the 3rd floor (counting the ground floor as the 1st floor) and has 2 bedrooms and a living room.

It is on Grettisgata close to the corner of Baronsstigur (google). The parallel street is Laugavegur. The main street of Reykjavik for shopping and walking around, enjoying street life. Still Grettisgata is local. If you walk up the road next door on the left there is a beautiful indoor swimming pool extensively photographed by artist Roni Horn. It is fully equipped with sauna, fitness equipment and outside chill area and hot tubs where you can gaze at the Nordic lights (in winter). Across the pool there is the local school with basketball court freely available to the public during the summer holiday months (May till August). Walking down Baronsstigur you first cross the Laugavegur, main shopping street before bumping into a 24 hours store and ending within few minutes at the seafront hiking route with its breathtaking mountain range across the bay. Another good place to spot the Nordic Lights. Other noteworthy amenities include Bonus, the Icelandic discount food store, few minutes walk down Laugavegur and Hlemmur, the main city bus terminal, few minutes walk up Laugavegur with easy connections to all the other places in the city.

About The Owner

We are a family of four that live mostly in Berlin Germany. Our daughters are 5 and 2 year old. We stay in Grettisgata perhaps 2-4 months a year.

The flat I´m renting out is the gem of my eye, my personal home with lots of love put into it. Treat it nice please :-)

The Owner purchased this apartment in 1999

Why The Owner chose Reykjavik

This is the liveliest corner of Reykjavik. Ideal for a car free lifestyle. Icelandic suburbs are the American style with little or no life on the streets. Therefore I prefer downtown with its pedestrians and cafés.

What makes this apartment unique

You will be able to meet the Icelanders which is not possible in other neighborhoods in Reykjavik ;-) It is also personal. Doesn´t have this cold aura of places not lived in. Still it is clean and tidy.

Great place, great location!!

My wife, 14 year old son, and I stayed in Hulda's apartment for almost two weeks. Hulda was very responsive to our needs and made sure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. Prior to arriving, he promptly returned all emails regarding our questions. After our arrival, we found that the main bedroom did not have any window covering. Hulda was unaware of this, but he immediately sent someone, on a Sunday, to rectify the problem. The apartment is small and cozy and very convenient to everything. The pictures in the listing accurately describe the apartment. We highly recommend this place. Thank you Hulda for making our visit to Iceland enjoyable and memorable!

Owner's Response: Dear Roger, thanks for nice review and again I apologise for the curtain situation. The previous guests had broken it and I didn´t know about it like you said. I´m glad you enjoyed your stay! Welcome anytime.

Perfect stay in Reykjavik

  • 5 of 5
Ideally located just steps away from Laugavegur, the main shopping street and a Bonus supermarket. We were welcomed by a friendly young lady (Anna) who showed us around, towels were provided, and we got two sets of keys. Listing descriptions and photos were representative, the apartment was very clean and the bed was cosy. The owner was very helpful and answered my questions promptly via email. Make sure to bring a hairdryer, I'm glad I had asked about it before. Also, consider bringing a sleep mask (I did as I'm sensitive towards light and it was very bright at "night").
I would definitely recommend staying at this particular apartment as it was ideally located and well-maintained.

Perfect in so many ways!

  • 5 of 5
The location of this super cute apartment really couldn't be any better. You are just 2 blocks away from the main shopping street and lots of restaurants as well as almost anything you would want to walk to in downtown Reykjavik. There is a community pool right around the corner, as well as the Icelandic Phallological Museum! Ha!

The apartment itself is very welcoming, homey & clean, and the kitchen is well stocked with staples to prepare your own meals (pots, pans, some assorted spices, etc). There is a little orange cat who greeted us at the front door and came and went as he pleased for our stay so I was able to get my animal fix.

I would most certainly recommend this fabulous spot as a "must stay" to folks traveling to Iceland. Should we find ourselves there for an extended stay once again, I will definitely be looking to book Hulda's awesome apartment!

Quiet, clean spacious apartment

  • 5 of 5
Staying here was such a treat. It is larger than it looks in the photos. Spotlessly clean, nice beds. You really feel "part of the fabric" of Reykjavik when you stay here. It is very quiet, great shower, a nice cat always greets you at the street door. Nice views from kitchen windows and back windows. You even see the top of Hallgrimskjirka out the livingroom and bedroom windows. Flybus and Icelandic Mountain Guide services can leave you off/pick you up at Alfred's Guesthouse, very nearby. Great food at around the corner restaurant Balkanikia. Easy walk to center of town, harbor. Our group was parents (60s) with 2 adult sons. 2 flights of stairs to apartment were no problem. I highly recommend this place and the owner emails you back quickly with answers to any questions.

Charming rental, great location, wonderfully equipped

  • 5 of 5
Excellent apartment start to finish. Within walking distance of everything in Reykyavik. This is a fairly spacious apartment with seemingly very recently renovated kitchen and bath. Very clean and well equipped. Very close to shopping and restaurants and an easy walk to waterfront. We were very pleased. Mattress was firm and linens clean and lovely. We loved the National Museum and the Settlement Exhibit (both of Iceland history) but not so much the Saga museum. Frederik V is a fabulous restaurant, locally sourced food, a number of good locally brewed beers offered at many locations. You need to pay for parking on the street, but many streets nearby do not require pay for parking. The listing description was completely accurate if understated in its proximity to everything!

Fantastic!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed for almost a week at Hulda Ros's place and we loved it! We were a group of 5: my elderly parents (80), my sister (38), her 2 year old girl and I. We needed a place to spend quality time together as a family since we've been living in different countries for the past year: Hulda Ros' place was just perfect for us. We really found our home away from home. The place feels personal in a nice way and we enjoyed small details like the teapot filled with color candles or the puppet of Reykjavik's mayor! Also, heating was on (mid-June) and the apartment was very comfy. There are shades in both bedrooms - great for June's clear nights. The flat is on the third floor -which really is only 2 1/2 floors up - no elevator.
The location is great - Bonus supermarket and great bakery (Sandholt) one street away. The building is right in the center of Reykjavik while being a little off the main touristic centre - meaning there are real shops in the streets, not just Mountain travel and Whale watching touring companies. Parking on the street is super easy and Daniela a warm and charming guest - she patiently waited for us as our flight was delayed and had arranged the baby chair and baby bed before we arrived.
Thank you Hulda Ros for letting us stay at your lovely place! We'll certainly recommend it and come back as soon as we can!

Owner's Response: Thanks Sophie!

You were the last guests that Daniela received. She will now attend to other things on her agenda. I will make sure she hears about your good reveiw. Thanks for being excellent guests!
