We moved to Maine from San Francisco about 13 years ago with our daughter and twin boys. We have since had to move elsewhere, but LOVE coming back to Maine. We have moved all over due to my husbands work, but Maine is where my kids consider their home. It is a very special and unique place.
My husband, three children and I moved to Maine about 13 years ago from San Francisco. We fell in love with this historical home at first sight! It needed a little TLC, we have redone all of the gardens, remodeled a little inside and updated, but left original pieces and charm. Our lives have since taken us to other places, but we could never let go of our piece of heaven go! We stay at Diamond Hill when we can, but want to share it with others when we cannot. It is a very special place to all of us. Beyond the beauty and views, we also love the location; a mile away from downtown Camden, but set in the quite village of Rockpport, best of both worlds, a central location but also the peace and quiet. The front deck is fantastic for coffee in the morning, hanging out with everyone in the evening.
We just got home and just quickly wanted to thank you for sharing your fantastic
home. We had such a nice week and can't stop talking about how much we loved
Maine as well as your home and gardens (and view!). As usual, we could not
fit all the activities we were hoping to accomplish into one week, but we had so
much fun hiking, canoeing, sea combing, and eating. Oh-- the kids also fit in
a lobster boat ride with Captain Jack, which they definitely enjoyed. Your
house was in the most perfect location and was such a comfortable place to
return to after a day full of adventures.
My family had the perfect vacation in this beautifully furnished home. The view of Rockport Harbor from one of the rocking chairs on the porch was my favorite. Plenty to do around the area, but we, our grown children and their SO's had the best time playing badminton in the yard, enjoying dinners at the big kitchen table, and just relaxing together. Owner was a delight to work with!
This historic home has been kept in beautiful shape. It sits high above Rockport Harbor with a wonderful view of the water and boats. The grounds are spacious and have been carefully tended. The deck in the back is beautiful, solid, and is a perfect place to sit and talk or read. The property is also secluded on most sides by huge, old trees.
Our extended family (8) spent a week there in July of 2014 and we all agreed that it was one of the most lovely homes we have ever rented. Everyone's expectations were exceeded. The kitchen had everything, including a remarkable gas stove; the dining/breakfast area was clearly new and very well planned. The bedrooms are all large with their own bathroom, and the master bath is very modern. The back bedroom has an incredible ocean view.
It is a very short (but a bit steep) walk down to two very nice restaurants (Salt Water Farm and Shepherd's Pie). It is not far by car to a supermarket (Hannaford). The walk to Camden -- which is more bustling -- is pleasant and you can pass by some amazing cows (Belted Galloways) but it might be a bit far for some. It is fun to drive from town to town around Rockport and we explored from Rockland to Belfast, with a stop on Lincolnville beach (which is small, but charming and festive). The Marshall Wharf Brewery in Belfast makes some great beer.
I could go on and on. We would definitely stay at this house again. It is obvious that someone has invested a lot of time, money, and excellent taste in maintaining this beautiful property.
We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful one other time and couldn't wait to return for a very special family reunion. This is very obviously a treasured family home that the owners share with folks like us. The location is fabulous- atop a hill overlooking quiet Rockport harbor, in walking distance of wonderful restaurants, and a quick drive or bike ride to bustling Camden. The house itself is a treasure and beautifully decorated but comfortably lived in. Our grandchildren love the downstairs game room and especially the Crows Nest hideaway on the 3rd floor. The front deck is the perfect family gathering spot and provides a wonderful vantage point for harbor watching. Our son and daughter-in-law loved preparing gourmet meals in the well stocked kitchen and we enjoyed lobster from the nearby seafood market. Last but not least....the spectacular gardens made us all feel that we were in a fairy land. They are beautifully tended and the large open yard provided a perfect playground for little ones. Can't wait to go back next summer!
We absolutely loved our week here and were sad to see it come to an end. We had so much fun with our family and enjoyed your beautiful home. We loved walking down the hill to the harbor, shopping in Camden, hiking, kayaking, taking a boat out to see the Puffins, and eating delicious lobster. Sleeping with the windows open was so nice and cool. Your home is beautiful and in a beautiful part of the country. Oh, we met your mom by chance in town and she was lovely. We hope to return! Thank you!
If beauty, space and serenity are what you are looking for in a Maine vacation, this is the home for you. The house sits up on a hill overlooking the spectacular Rockport Harbor. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the deck in the morning drinking our coffee as we watched the boats and birds. The gardens surrounding the house are lovely and well tended. The night sky there was stunning as well....Im not sure Ive ever seen so many stars. Rockport is peaceful yet is right down the road from the bustling and charming Camden. Camden was a favorite destination, yet Rockland and Boothbay are quite close by.
The house is comfortable, clean and beautifully decorated. A favorite spot is the library filled with books for all tastes. There was plenty of room for our family to spread out, yet has great gathering areas such as the kitchen and den to spend time together.
The owner, Kathie, is wonderful to work with. She is available to help with everything such as places to go and sights to see while in Maine. She is quite attentive to any need you might have. You couldnt ask for a nicer landlord.
Some of the highlights for us included a trip out on the schooner Olad in Camden, a lobster trip out of Rockland with Captain Jack as well as visits to the various lighthouses such as Breakwater and Bald Head Island. The restaurant down the hill from the house, Shepard's Pie, now ranks as one of my all time favorites.
Our family highly recommends this home for your stay in Maine. It provides the most beautiful backdrop for the Maine experience. To say it is a special home is an understatement.
-The Shervin Family (Cheri)
My husband, son (11 years old), my parents and I spent a magical week at this beautiful home last week. Our favorite thing had to be sitting on the deck each morning with a cup of coffee and enjoying the amazing view of Rockport harbor (we never wanted to leave). We also loved the beautiful gardens, playing frisbee on the lawn, eating amazing meals in the sunroom off the kitchen and just marveling at this impressive home. It felt like we had stepped back in time (the house was built in 1870) but could also enjoy all the modern conveniences - including a commercial stove, a fully stocked pantry, a flat screen TV, wireless Internet, and remodeled bathrooms. Needless to say, we also took full advantage of all the area has to offer - hiking up Mt. Battie and Mt. Megunticook (breathtaking views), renting kayaks to use on Lake Megunticook, sailing on the Schooner Olad, shopping in Camden, visting the Lightouse Museum in Rockland (on one of only two rainy days we had), enjoying a wine tasting and tour at the Cellardoor winery, seeing a musical at the Camden Opera House, and enjoying delicious lobster mac and cheese at Cappy's in Camden. What also made our visit special were the extra special touches provided - fresh flowers displayed in the kitchen and bathrooms and a wonderful welcome message left on the kitchen chalkboard. The owner, Kathie, and the caretakers of this home truly try to make you feel like you have a home away from home. Kathie also took great care to check on us upon arrival to make sure all our needs were met. I would highly recommend a stay at this lovely home. It was a vacation that our family will always remember!
