Minocqua House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, sleeps 6

Escape the hustle and enjoy the north woods as it is meant to be--with pristine, unspoiled vistas, peace, and quiet. We are located on a peninsula on the 200 acre Wind Pudding Lake (currently lower and smaller due to a prolonged drought) and with 450 feet of frontage and water on three sides. Our house is situated just 60 feet for the shore and commands panoramic 180 degree views.

You will see no neighbors and and have this virtually undeveloped lake for yourself! This lake has limited public access, no resorts, so you can enjoy the serenity. The lake is a beautiful combination of open water with 34 foot depths and areas of lily pads and sedge grasses that attracts a variety of birds and fish. The lake front is unspoiled and teeming with wildlife.

The north woods is still recovering from a prolonged drought and lake levels throughout the region, including ours, are down, but rapidly rising. However this summer the larger part of our 200 acre lake may be inaccessible by boat from our pier. But there is a beautiful, usable part of the lake directly in front of our house. So if you are looking to water ski, use jet skis, motor boat, our lake is not where you would want to vacation. If, however, you wish to have peaceful, relaxing vacation with complete privacy (there are no neighbors in sight), where you can swim, enjoy the eagles nesting on the nearby island, do a little canoeing, fish for something other than trophy fish, we can't be beat.

This property is also available for purchase. If you purchase, rental price up to $1400 will be deducted from purchase price.

Wonderful Fall Get Away!!

  • 5 of 5
This home tucked away in the woods was so beautiful and relaxing. The kitchen is very well stocked and the views are gorgeous. We were there during peak color and it was amazing. Very well maintained and clean. The beds were very comfortable. The owner was especially wonderful to work with and I would recommend this home rental to everyone.

Very peaceful and remote

  • 4 of 5
We have just returned from 5 nights at this lovely home on a small, private lake. The house is wonderful - very clean and comfortable. The setting is very private and remote yet very close to a lot - Minocqua and all points north which we explored. The lake is very low and I do not believe would be good for any water activities but there are many lakes in the area that are not so low and very accessible to anything you would want to do. The scenery is beautiful around the house - woods and forest preserve in addition to the lake. The owners do supply nationwide calling service and internet as cell service (at least ours - Verizon) is very bad. The house is well-stocked and in very good condition. The only negative thing for us (and this is our opinion) is the driveway to the house. Once you turn on to the private drive it is very rough and not groomed at all, plus you are sharing with two other cottages. My husband was very concerned that our car would "bottom out" as the drive is very rough. Just a warning - it certainly adds to the remoteness and natural beauty but take it easy ! We never met anyone on the drive coming and going except two deer(!) - not sure how two cars would pass if we did. Overall, a very relaxing experience.

Quiet getaway

  • 3 of 5
The house was in good condition, well-maintained and very comfortable, but the lake is much smaller than 200 acres as stated in the description. Although the description does say that water levels are down, there was only about 40-50 acres of open water on the lake. However, we still enjoyed our stay; there was a view of the lake from many windows and the house was located on a quiet secluded part of the lake. The house served as a great base camp for us to explore the area and to hike, bike, and fish in other lakes.

Beautifully kept home on wild life sanctuary

  • 5 of 5
This was our first time as a family to the Hazelhurst lake area and we were not dissappointed. Yes the road into the house is rough but if you take it slow there is no problem. The house is very clean and well made. We loved the openess of the main floor and has a good flow to it. We really appreciated the modern kitchen with open concept to the dining and living room so no missed conversations or watching the Packers play a pre season game. Also we had great views of the wetlands and water from several angels so we got to experience the cranes fly by each evening and watch the Eagles perch on the tops of the pines on the island directly in front of the house
I agree with past posts that the house is very well appointed especially the kitchen and even a grill, extra folding chairs and table to make a fun evening around the fire pit.
We really had a very enjoyable time on Wind Pudding Lake and if your wanting larger water to swim in there is a beach on a crystal clear lake (Sand Lake) less than 2 miles down the road.
All in all we had a wonderful time in this house and would recommend it to friends. I would think it would be a lovely retreat even in the Fall.

Poorly maintained and rude owner

  • 1 of 5
The access road to the home is very bumpy and steep and could be improved dramatically.
We arrived to the house expecting a very clean and well maintained home. There were several problems with our stay and it began with the throw rug in the family room which smelled of cat urine. I noticed it because my daughter is 6 months old and I sat her on it to play. I also have cats at home, so this is a smell I know well. When I contacted him, he directed us to put the rug in the basement and he had his cleaning lady return to clean the floor. This was fine, but now there were only hard surfaces, so my husband and I purchased an inexpensive rug from Walmart for her to sit on.
When I offered to leave the rug, the Owner was very rude and said nothing was wrong with his rug.
Aside from the soiled rug, the place was filthy. The inside of cabinets are covered with food, the floors are dirty, the grounds appear to not be maintained as the weeds are 2' tall throughout. There is no grass. There are only 2 chairs on the deck - both covered in spider webs. The mattress in the master is mediocre and VERY creaky which is really annoying when you roll over and wake up from the noise (BTW we are small people).
The bathroom shower curtains are covered in mildew and the floor in the lower level bathroom is buckled.
The "Lake" is not a lake as much as it is a pond. Maybe you can swim in it, but it is not even suitable for kayaking. The lake level is so low, it is not usable.
Basically, it seems like the Owner is doing the bare minimum to maintain the place until it sells.
Finally, upon arriving home, the Owner contacted me and told me he was holing $50 of my cleaning deposit for the additional time it took the cleaning person to return to clean the floor because she says the carpet does not smell. In his email, he also says she is old, so I am guess she has no sense of smell. This is wrong and I certainly didn't want to spend the first few hours of my vacation dealing with the mess and having to buy a rug at Walmart.

Owner's Response: After a day and half of rain this woman contacted me asking for a full refund for her remaining 4 days. When I told her that won't be fair, she became angry and from this point on everything was wrong with the house. My little throw rug was fine, smelling of fresh northern pines if anything. All I can guarantee you is a sparkling, beautiful house in a gorgeous setting, not great weather.

For objective and honest information about my wonderful house, read the other reviews.

May all your days be sunny, especially your vacation days.

Whispers of the Wilderness

  • 5 of 5
Our family had a very nice time in this very well kept home. The house was clean and well stocked with everything we needed. The setting is beautiful and very quiet. The lake is small because of lots of beautiful water lilies growing around the edge, but we still enjoyed paddling the canoe and row boat around. We were there on 3 very warm days as well so swimming and floating with the life jackets on was peaceful and nice. The rental process was easy and the owners were very responsive to our questions. I would highly recommend this setting for people who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The surrounding area offers lots of activities for children and families to enjoy.
