Eo-Navia Comarca Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description
Farmhouse, 4 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, Sleeps 5
La Cumbre is a pretty farmhouse lovingly restored by its owners (Spanish and American). It is found on a hillside organic farm above the Asturian coast in Western Asturias with spectacular views of the mountains in front, the valley below and the coast beyond. La Cumbre, true to its original nature and history, offers a rustic country setting complete with farm animals without neglecting any of the comforts of home. It is a quiet, rural location. While off the beaten path it is within minutes of beaches, villages and shopping. Walking trails lead off from the house to include the famous pilgrim route the 'Camino de Santiago', where you may enjoy more spectacular views of the Atlantic coast.
Couples! We offer special rates to couples outside July and August in La Cumbre and have smaller cottages available. Please see El Balcon #253751 and El Pajar #443221.
A welcome pack is included containing wine, coffee, teas, bread, milk, sugar and eggs (when our chickens cooperate).
The Farmhouse: This two-story house has an open plan downstairs living/dining room and complete well-equipped kitchen, big sunny windows, rustic tile floor, exposed stone walls, wooden ceiling and a wood-burning stove. The kitchen is beautifully tiled in blue and white with white marble counter tops and sink. The water comes from a deep well and tastes great, tested and approved. The house is nicely furnished with a mix of antiques and traditional Asturian pieces all working together to make for a comfortable stay. Upstairs is a complete bathroom with large bathtub/shower and four bedrooms. The bedrooms have the original chestnut floors, rugs, bedside tables, reading lamps, mirrors, chairs and plenty of storage space. The beds are one Queen, one Full and two Singles. One single room has a curtain door.
The Surroundings: Enjoy a day in the hammock, walk the hills or jump in the car and in only 10 minutes you can be on the beach. There are many to choose from, quiet and secluded to busy with all the amenities. In 20 minutes you can find yourself in the bustling fishing ports of Luarca and Cudillero where a wealth of local fish and seafood, as well as typical Asturian dishes await you. Just inland have a look into the past at the traditional lifestyles where life revolves around cows, both dairy and beef. Throughout the summer villages offer a 'fiesta' in honor of their patron saint with live bands, competitions, children's events and, of course, mass and a religious procession. Market days are not to be missed and arts and crafts shows are common in the summer. The cities of Aviles, Gijon and Oviedo are less than an hour away by car for nightlife, museums, the new aquarium, cultural events, and shopping. Take the narrow guage FEVE train instead of the car! Asturias is known for its natural beauty.
The Farm: Because we enjoy our organic lifestyle our linens are washed in natural soaps and sun dried. The house has features which save on energy and we encourage recycling. The chickens are the first step in the composting process and are fun to feed. We do not own a tractor or heavy farm machinery therefore the place is doubly safe for children since there is no traffic. Organic dry food items are available for purchase, herbs and flowers free for the picking and we are always happy to share the seasonal abundance of the garden.
We are enthusiastic about Asturias and are happy to help with translations, reservations and tips on where to eat and what to see. There is a great deal of information in the house as well as in the 'Resource Center'. Natural Parks, special beaches, woodland trails, surprising wildlife; Asturias is full of pleasant and unexpected surprises.

Guestbook comments from the owner
We instantly felt at home in this lovingly restored farmhouse and its surrounds. I would recommend La Cumbre to couples of any age, families with kids, singles looking to spoil themselves – anyone who dreams of a rural retreat. The house is sunny, spotless and very well-equipped. The bedrooms are large with just-right touches; the kitchen, bath and living room equally charming and full of everything you could possibly need plus some. There is no artifice, just well-thought out comfort and ease. With three other rental properties on the farm, La Cumbre retains privacy although we enjoyed camaraderie with the other guests. Did I mention the gorgeous views? The farm, Pico Los Rozos, sits atop a hill and invites exploration, bringing hours of delight to adults and kids alike. Breakfasting on fresh eggs and homemade bread on the patio overlooking the valley; walking the old trails with Lex the happiest dog on the planet; feeding the chickens and gathering herbs; delving into the Resource Center’s ample assortment of books, music, games and toys; savoring a glass of the local red as the sun sets across the mountains – you are surrounded at all times by utter peace and incomparable natural beauty. Just down the hill are shops and cantinas, while unspoiled beaches and busy little towns are minutes away. Somewhere nearby, every day, is a farmers market for fresh vegetables, artesianal cheese, local meats and people-watching entertainment. The new motorway is so close you can make an easy daytrip to anywhere in Galicia or Asturias, and there is so much to see! Best of all are Lynn and Pepe, unobtrusive but always ready to provide recommendations (the house has a book-ful), directions, easy conversation and whatever you might need for your home away from home. From the first warm email to the welcome package of wine, bread, eggs and flowers, to the goodbye hugs, they are the most gracious and thoughtful of hosts and among the finest people we know. Living in the mountains has its realities: the driveway is exhilaratingly steep and sometimes the farm is enveloped in a cooling cloud. A city pied-a-terre La Cumbre is not. But if you want to awaken to the fragrance of meadow and woods, stretch out under sun-dried sheets and go to the window overlooking a green tapestry tumbling to the ocean, and ponder the day’s rich possibilities to the sound of distant cowbells – go to La Cumbre. I know we’ll be back.
