Nice House, needs some better management, is for sale
My husband and I wanted to go somewhere with our three children and elderly grandma. This was the perfect house. It is very much like the pictures and we had plenty of space. The backyard area was the big selling point for us. We had a wonderful stay however I am going to comment on a few issues I had with the owner Ray, who lives in Canada.
Upon arrival we were met by Guy. He was very nice and showed us a few things around the house and told us that a relator would be coming the next day to look around the outside of the property. Later in the day we noticed that the hot tub was not on. We called Guy who told us he would come the next day to show us how it worked. The following day we were enjoying the pool when a realtor came in the backyard. She said she was here to show clients through the property. We were shocked. After paying for a vacation rental I did not expect to have to show people through the house. We said no as our one son was a asleep and we were not comfortable letting people through the property. I called Ray, no answer. So I called Guy. He said he didn't know about this either. I then got a text from the owner saying he couldn't believe I didn't let them in.
Later that night we called Guy again to see how to turn on the hot tub. He explained this to my husband over the phone. We also noticed the kitchen sink was leaking a lot in the cupboard. We did not get a response. We informed Ray of this as well. My husband tried tightening parts of the sink and seemed to get it under control.
We also had an issue with the pool, it was pretty green and really hurt our eyes. The pool cleaner informed us he had to put in large amount of chlorine as the people the week before had turned off the pool and it got too dirty. Also after he cleaned the pool (10 am on Thursday we were unable to use the pool for five hours due to the chemicals!) This was not ideal given the purpose of our trip..to relax by the pool all day.
After our departure we were told that some money would be deducted from our deposit as we used too much propane. Apparently we were shown the propane gauge. This never happened as we were only instructed over the phone how to turn on the heating (which by the way heats both the pool and spa). It was 110 degrees and we only used the hot tub in the evenings.
Overall a very nice house, I think I would be cautious renting again given the fact the house is for sale.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the comments. I'll happily address the issues as follows:
I would say that with as many 5 out of 5 comments that I've received over the years, this group would fall under the "no matter what we do, we can't please 100%..." category.
In the summer, it's not all too uncommon to have pools "turn" in the extreme heat a short time. This is dependent on several factors such as what is put in the pool, how many bodies are in the pool, temperature, etc. This has to be treated with chemicals, as it was promptly, and the consequence means a small break from the pool; this is a regular course of action and not a catastrophe.
As always, my guests are greeted at the property and given an orientation. I'm not aware of anyone else doing this to this extent, and it has proven to be very effective and helpful. The guests have a responsibility to listen, pay attention and ask questions as well.
The propane allotment and usage is detailed and explained with me via email/phone and in the contract prior to collecting any funds for booking. The usage can be monitored at the property by all guests simply by checking a gauge. This group happen to use more propane than allotted with frequent use of the spa, so a small extra charge was applied. In this case, I even split their cost in half and absorbed half of the cost!
If I continue to have the property for sale (this is not certain at this point), it will have NO IMPACT ON THE BOOKINGS/RENTALS WHATSOEVER.
I encourage anyone interested in renting to email or call me to discuss any of these comments.
