Old San Juan has a bus station from where you can go to Plaza Las Americas, the biggest mall in the Caribbean, to the Convention Center, as well as to Condado and Isla Verde, the other two main tourist spots along the coast of San Juan. We arrived late to check into the apartment with our one year old twin girls but Michael and Maria were gracious enough to check us into their apartment even though it was after 9pm! They even went to get us a gallon of milk for our girls and held a parking space for us on the street! Way above and beyond our expectations! Michael and Maria made us feel like we we're staying with some great friends that happen to have a place in Old San Juan. From personal suggestions on dining to tourist stuff, they made our stay memorable. The apartment itself was a perfect fit for our family. The indoor/outdoor patio to main hallway really made you feel like you had arrived in the tropics. And the location was perfect for anything you wanted to do while in San Juan. The kitchen was fully furnished for making meals and cocktails and the washer/dryer in the apartment was exactly what you need on a family trip. No central a/c but lots of fans and open air patio makes it comfortable. We had our older daughter and her friend along as well and they loved the location for night life as well. This was a great way to experience Old San Juan from a beautiful, well maintained apartment on a quiet block in the heart of the city.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Old San Juan in this property! Even though there were four of us, 8 people would easily fit comfortably in this space. It's only about 15 minutes from the airport and the taxi ride was $20. The home is stocked with almost everything you need and is within walking distance to a market, Walgreens, and many restaurants and bars. We also were able to find a small beach a few blocks away. The rental was exactly how it looks in pictures and clean and inviting upon arrival.
The apartment is airy, with a great patio and plenty of fans to keep cool. There is WiFi available and DirectTv with multiple English channels. The only con was that the open air concept led to mosquitoes but the fans help to keep them away if you sit in front of them or have them blowing on you at night while you sleep. That is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. I would recommend bringing an insect repellent. We didn't have a mosquito issue while walking around the city. The neighborhood felt safe, even at night, and there is a strong police presence without feeling intimidating or making you wary of your surroundings.
Visit Expresso Art for great coffee/breakfast and El Jabarito for an awesome dinner. Both are just a couple of blocks away from the rental. Up one block and to the left will take you to a string of bars and clubs, for anyone looking for some night activities. There are also maps and brochures in the house that can be used to navigate the city. You're in the middle of Old San Juan, so you really feel a part of the culture versus the usual tourist spots.
We just checked out yesterday and I already received my refundable security deposit! Vida Urbana was very easy to work with and responded quickly to my initial inquiry and follow-up questions. Specifically, Irma was very helpful from the very beginning- from confirming our reservation and payment arrangements to check-in and check-out. I would recommend this property to anyone looking to really experience Old San Juan. I think you will really love it!
It's a beautiful apartment at a great location! Very well decorated. Good sized rooms and with everything you need to have a great stay. It's also very nice to have internet access available. The only downside is that the rooms do not have air conditioning which can be very helpful in such hot/humid weather. I would strongly recommend the owner to install a.c. at least in every bedroom.
if you're looking for a relaxed place for your vacation getaway, this is it. just 10 minutes from downtown old san juan. id definitely stay here again.
I came with a large group of friends to enjoy Puerto Rico for a week, this Apartment was perfect! It was located right in Old San Juan less than a minute from bars and restaurant as well as a 5- 10 minute walk to the ferry, bus station and historic locations such as forts.
The apartment its self is beautifully kept.
The bathroom had a large shower as well as a washer and drier. For a group of seven you would think that one bathroom is an issue but it was perfect. There was also an outdoor shower for days when you can back from the beach particularly sandy.
The patio is beautiful and has a remote awning if you still want to sit outside but it is raining.
The beds were comfortable and each bedroom contained multiple fans if you were perhaps feeling hot that day.
The owns supplied us not only with bathing towels but beach towels which was a lovely touch.
The living room has direct tv and a nice dining area and well suited to our large group. If you were looking to save money by cooking at home the kitchen is a full and modern kitchen.
This apartment was literally a home away from home.
On top of everything the owners themselves are wonderful and polite people who are only a stones throw away if you should need anything.
I was incredibly surprised by how wonderful this little gem ended up being. All of the amenities exceeded the expectations of our group of 7.
The location was perfect and we especially enjoyed coffee in our own private courtyard in the morning.
What really stood out was the charm of this rental. The pictures, furniture and all of the small details constantly welcomed us to relax and take our own pace. This was not a rental property, but a home that welcomed us in.
I was very hesitant to book for the first time using homeaway. I mean, it is quite a leap to send money to anyone in another country and not reserve some anxiety about whether or not the place will be there. But this was an amazing experience and everything was easier than expected.
Perfect for large groups and a great launching pad for anyplace you want to visit on the island.
the one thing to keep in mind is that the open-air patio is adjacent to the neighbors' windows, and they tend to be wary of noise and travelers so depending on your plans for the space it might be something to keep in mind
