Quiet upstairs appartment with spectacular view

Excellent place for 2 (as couple or friends with a room each) but would work well with up to 4 people staying. Everything worked fine, the shower and towels are really good. We barely heard our neighbors and slept very well in both the bedroom and on foldout couch. The twinkling Manhatten skyline is visible from your pillow if you choose to sleep on the couch - I really enjoyed that! In the skylit kitchenette: no microwave, but fridge, toaster oven and everything else you need for cooking and eating simple meals, with a dishwasher for easy clean-up. There is enough closet space, so you don't have to trip over your bags at night. One closet locks with removable key for your valuables, if you need that peace of mind, but the appartment is private and the neighborhood is very safe. Free street parking, easiest to find in the street behind the house if you come with a car, or decide to rent one for a day or two.
10-15 minute downhill walk to the ferry - you might consider taking a taxi ($6-8) back late at night. Not for safety reasons, but because it's a little steep going uphill when you're tired from sightseeing all day. The ferry runs 24 hrs - for free - so going to a show or other night entertainment in Manhattan and getting home is no problem. The Staten Island ferry ride is surely one of the best in the world and a main reason why we chose this location. People-watching, the skyline and Miss Liberty never get boring, no matter what time of day or year.
But you should also consider taking in Staten Island's own historical sights and suburban feel! There are public busses. There is also a substantial mall for serious shopping, an excellent alternative to carrying bags around in Manhattan all day.
Your host is extremely considerate and helpful with suggestions and fix-its. She is just the icing on a truly memorable location and a charmingly furnished appartment with that personal touch - a real home away from home.
