Beautiful Cabin!

We had a very nice, week long stay at this beautiful cabin on Ash Lake. It is quite a drive from the cities, but definitely worth it! The cabin itself was fantastic--very cozy, clean, and it had great amenities (newer appliances, washer/dryer, fluffy towels, etc). The lake and surrounding area are stunning--we are definitely tempted to someday find our own place! We really didn't catch any fish, but apparently the people that rented the week before caught a bunch. It is a quiet lake that isn't overly populated, so it is very peaceful and serene. The one thing that detracts from that--the trains that come raging through at all hours of the day! Unfortunately, the tracks are quite close to the property, so there is no escaping the noise. Although you kind of get used to it, it could be a serious dealbreaker. We also didn't realize that the cabin is situated right next door to the owner's lake house. Although they are very friendly and welcoming, we found it rather awkward to be right across the yard from them--certainly not the "private" getaway we were looking for. I would suggest checking to see if they'll be there the days you book if you are wanting some privacy. It did work in our favor to have them there for a few days. The grill wasn't working, so they did provide us with a substitute. Our dog managed to lock herself in the bathroom and they kindly got a ladder and crawled in through the window to rescue her! And after having major problems with the boat and motor we had rented from them, they did allow us to use their personal boat for the last few days of our stay--while it was very generous of them, it was still frustrating that we had to struggle with the faulty motor and lose some time on the lake because it wasn't in proper working order and shouldn't have been offered as a rental in its condition.
Some suggestions: Bring bug spray--the biting flies are ridiculous! Bring chairs for the patio and campfire--we were thankful we packed ours because there was no outdoor furniture provided. Check out the Vince Shute Bear Sanctuary! We were pleasantly surprised by how many bears were there and the cubs' antics are very entertaining.
All in all we had a very nice time and would recommend the cabin!
