Ideal location for elegant weddings, corporate retreats, and high-end travelers who want the finest vacation in Vermont.
The main house of the inn is a turn of the century arts and crafts period Frank Lloyd Wright elegant Tudor Mansion on Strawberry Hill, a 30 acre estate, commanding breathtaking panoramic views of the Battenkill Valley below and the Green Mountains; it is adjacent to twin project Lincoln's Hildene. It is located half mile away from the Equinox Hotel and spa, minutes from Bromley, Stratton, Glen Eagles golf course, the Falconry and famous fashion outlets.
The entire estate has the capacity to house 125 guests. The inn has its pool, tennis court, its own art center, the Museum of the Creative Process, and its own organic Earth Sky Time Farm and famous local artisan bakery.
My wife and I have been the owners and innkeepers of The Wilburton Inn for the past 25 years. My wife is from Brooklyn, NY. Her sister, Wendy Wasserstein, honored her by naming Madeline Kahn’s Tony Award winning role, Gorgeous, after her in the Broadway play, The Sisters Rosenswieg. I am a psychiatrist from Athens, Greece. I am interested about art, education, religion, and conflict resolution. I look forward to giving a TED talk on the future of creativity this summer.
We bought our first home in VT in 1972 because the mountains reminded me of my days at medical school in Switzerland. It is our pleasure to see our children and grandchildren now take an interest in running the inn. We enjoy welcoming travelers to our beautiful homes. We love introducing them to the history and beauty of Vermont and The Wilburton Estate.
Melissa Levis purchased this hotel in 1987
This estate combines, history, arts, ideas, a farm and a bakery. Just what the turn of the century robber barons aspired for when they built a number of mountain retreats in the Berkshires and in Vermont. We have put it all together for us, for them and for you.
The Wilburton was built in 1902 by Albert Gilbert on a 1200 acre estate. He was a good friend of Robert Todd Lincoln, who also built his summer cottage next door on a 400 acre estate. The Wilburton commands superb panoramic views and two historic mansions, one on the hill and the other in the farm below, which was known as the Old English Inn and is now renamed as the Battenkill Valley Mansion.
