Little Cabin In The Wood
Review Submitted: July 1, 2009
Date of Stay: June 2009
This little cabin has all the necessities for a quite stay in the Catskills woods. It's on a quiet road, across from a stream that will help you sleep. In the morning you'll have songbirds to wake you up. The nearby town of Phoenicia has a few good restaurants, especially Sweet Sue's for a giant breakfast, and an Italian one for dinner. I like to fish, but the creeks were high from all the June rain. An out of state 7- day fishing license is $25.00. I got plenty of fly casting practice, but no fish. My wife had lots of quiet time to read.
The owners, David and Anne, kept in contact with us from the first day we inquired about the property, and were very helpful with whatever questions we had about the area. David was nearby, and brought over extra towels and kitchen supplies without asking.
Be prepared to drive a while to visit the towns. They're pretty spread out, and your cell phone probably won't work in a lot of the areas. It did work in Woodstock. There is a phone in the cabin that will call anywhere within the area code. There's also a DVD player and wide screen TV with cable.
There's a nice live theater in Ellenville we went to, and Woodstock has some, but no shows the week we were there. The nearest large mall, Hudson Valley Mall, including Walmart, is north of Kingston on Rt.9W south, just off US 209.
All in all, it was a nice week. I'd say it's best suited for two adults without children. If quiet and seclusion, and an occasional deer is what you're looking for, this is a nice clean cabin.
Owner's Response: We now have unlimited local and long distance calling as well as high speed cable internet at the cabin.
