Overview

Ansouis House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 5)

Ansouis is rated one of the Plus Beaux /Most Beautiful Villages in France. Known by visitors for its historic chateau, and by locals for its exquisite restaurant, La Closerie, it has retained a truly authentic quality. The village itself will look after your daily needs with its bakery, café, post office, newspaper shop, and a small but well-equipped grocery market. On Sunday, a lively open air market comes to town, with the aroma of roasted chickens, cured meats, local cheeses, fruit, olives and delicious wines. The same market can be found at other local villages throughout the week.

The local area offers something for everyone; notable wineries, serious hikes or gentle promenades, biking tours (rentals are available in nearby Pertuis), ice cream heaven at L’Art Glacier, or a swim in our nearby fresh water lake, Etang de la Bonde. The historic villages of Loumarin, Cucuron, and Vaugines are minutes away.

Situated at the base of the Golden Triangle of the Luberon, the region offers many popular festivals throughout the year, photography in Arles, music and dance in Aix en Provence, and theatre in Avignon to name but three. It is less than 25 min to Aix en Provence, 45 minutes to the sprawling antique market at Isle sur la Sorgue, an hour to Cassis, Marseille, Avignon, and Arles. Take a ‘French’ picnic to the beach at Sanary Sur Mer or take a boat trip to swim in the hidden coves of the Calanques, or explore the wild beauty of the Camargue on horseback.

Easy access by train (Aix en Provence TGV 25 minutes by car from the house and 2.5 hours from Paris), airport (Marseilles, 40 minutes by car) and other cosmopolitan centers (Nice 3 hours, Avignon 45 minutes by car).

The house:

This authentic village house dating back to the 16th Century offers the perfect base for your stay in the region. Its southern aspect, and all the rooms, look over a gentle valley where each season brings new colors and sights, as the farmers nurture the land and their livelihood. Despite its antiquity, the house offers every modern convenience to ensure a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The house is new to the rental market, having been completely restored during 2008. Everything is new, from bed linens, to appliances, although much of the furniture is antique.

Garage: Provides valuable off-street parking, and storage for bikes and the like, and direct access to the house.

First Floor: Two adjoining bedrooms with vaulted ceilings, one with twin beds, one with a double bed. Both provide storage for clothing.

Second Floor: Open plan fully equipped kitchen/living area makes the most of the south facing light to create a very comfortable living space, which includes a fireplace, ample seating, and a large round dining table. There is also a bathroom equipped with a shower, basin, toilet, bath and washing machine. In the entrance, there is a writing table and chair, and an additional wc.

Third Floor: Large master bedroom with high ceilings, a queen sized four-poster bed, generous storage, an arm chair, and table and chair, with internet access. The terrace overlooks the valley, perfect for a quiet read, breakfast, a glass of rosé or a casual supper under the stars.

I never knew that Paradise could be so simple. I'd give it 10 stars.

Provence is magnificent, the Luberon district (a national park) more so, and the tiny medieval village of Ansouis, built on a hill even more delightful. I stayed over Christmas and the New Year and then couldn't help staying on for a week or two more in this warm-hearted home in a charming stone house with a view and an atmosphere you'll never forget.

For anyone who like things around them to work, everything does. This house is comfortable and perfectly equipped, but I found the tranquility even more refreshing than all the comforts that this home provides. The villages around, each with excellent restaurants were a joy to visit too. Ansouis has an exceptional restaurant, and of course a village boulangerie for a daily baguette. Provencal life has a charm that's unique in our world and I can't wait to go back. Some of France's most charming Southern towns, like Aix, are nearby and the markets are glorious - there's superb food of every imaginable sort - remember this is a region famed for it's fruit and produce. And you're bound to find many tempting second hand treasures and desirable pieces of bric-a-brac.

I could write pages about how much I enjoyed this simple paradise, but since this is simply a recommendation, I hope I've said enough. It's a genuinely magical place which I doubt that anyone, either on their own, or with a partner or family, could fail to enjoy.

Perfect week!!

  • 5 of 5
What a wonderful week. We arrived much in need of a break and what we had was so much more!! Lucy, what a beautiful house you have and in a paradise location. The view from the balcony is breath taking and ideal as the outside space. much larger than we expected. Your information was so helpful in helping us to find out about the area...... there is so much to be enjoyed and explored. In one week we visited Aix, Marseilles, Arles and wandered through many of the idyllic hilltop villages. We will definitely be booking again. Thank you.

A Truly Wonderful Week!

  • 5 of 5
What a wonderful week! We had such a lovely time in your beautiful home. As the holiday was aimed at having a week of relaxing family time before the new school year it provided the perfect place for both a base to go off and explore the area but also the setting for many a glorious evening on the terrace playing games and reading. We particularly loved the open plan but cosy feel of the kitchen and living room, meaning the mornings could consist of adventure planning, breakfast making and the packing of day bags all together! Ansouis as a village is so beautifully peaceful and is perfectly located in such an interesting region of France. We would definitely recommend eating in le Closerie (but definitely book in advance!) and popping into the surrounding markets to pick up a lunchtime baguette and rotisserie chicken for picnic lunches on the go. Thank you so much!

What a wonderful home!

  • 5 of 5
This spacious townhouse, tucked away in the beautiful village of Ansouis (as said by the French authorities themselves), provides any would-be renter with anything they might need on their stay there. All the usual appliances plus more (iPod speakers, quick Wi-Fi), the house has a fantastically cosy feel to it; a perfect place to wile away the long, hot summer evenings, especially up on the balcony, which provides fantastic views of the nearby valley. Lucy's guide to the house provided all the information we needed on things to do and see in the surrounding area; some great countryside walks and quaint little towns to wander around. All in all, a fantastic place to stay, would definitely go again!

For shoppers, sightseers, tourists, and people who just love to eat and drink

  • 5 of 5
Our family (with teenagers) loved the town of Ansouis and used it as a starting point to tour the neighboring villages. Lucy (owner) provided us with a list of suggestions on what to do, which we extensively used and found very helpful. The house had everything that you would need and we often had meals on the upstaris terrace looking over a view that is much better than the one shown in the picture attached to the web site. There are a number of good antique and other markets near by that my wife and I enjoyed. The owner is very accomodating, easy to deal with and helpful. Highly recommend.
