FUNKIEST/ COOLEST DESIGNER WATERFRONT COTTAGE IN THE HUDSON VALLEY.

Kingston Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, sleeps 4 to 6

Get ready for the most unique, fun, wild and interactive house in the Hudson Valley.

With 250 feet of frontage on the Esopus Creek in the back of the property and the rolling hills and barns of an organic bison farm in the front of the property, tranquility dominates the views seen from the windows of this charming cottage located at the base of the Catskill mountains.

Newly and tastefully completed, 'Brigham Place' was eco consciously designed with bamboo floors, reclaimed materials and vintage furnishings. This 2 bedroom and 2 bath cottage(As well as two oversized sofas and a blow up mattress-no linens) has a spacious open floor plan which includes a chef inspired kitchen with a large dining bar and French doors opening out from the main living area to a sprawling new deck surrounded by nature. The second bathroom is accessible through a trap door in the kitchen. This is usually the favorite of children and teenagers.

Brigham Place was 'House of the Day' in the Wall Street Journal in August 2011. See here:

Privately set on a quiet road, this comfortably furnished cottage captures the essence of Hudson valley living. Close to Saugerties, Rhinebeck, Uptown Kingston, Woodstock, H.I.T.S, skiing, sledding, wineries, boutiques, acclaimed restaurants and walking distance to several rustic farms where you can purchase your fresh produce, milk and farm raised eggs.

You will not find a property quite like Brigham Place. As the many guest reviews suggest, the house is stocked with quirky decorations, fun accessories such as cowboy hats, sombreros, wigs and other toys to make your stay a memorable one

My name is Bill and I am the owner of Brigham Place. I grew up in the Hudson Valley and have always loved the beauty, the quaint small towns and the creativity. I spent 15 years in NYC designing home furnishings and designing spaces and recently moved back upstate to open my own shop and design house and fully equip and furnish Brigham Place for those people looking for a unique experience and a one-of-a-kind place to stay while exploring the Hudson Valley.

Bill Yosh purchased this cottage in 2008

As stated above, I am from the Hudson Valley and have always loved everything about it. I purchased Brigham Place in 2008, and took a beautiful cottage and wanted the challenge of turning it into my dream vacation home.....and that it has become.

Brigham Place is one of the most unique homes I have ever seen, whether it is the sea plane taking off from the creek in the back or watching the buffalo roam on the ridge outside of the Kitchen.....not many people can say that! :-). Also, as an owner, I choose to stay and use the house several weeks a year because it is so magical and it helps me to see what the house needs to help make it the most memorable of stays.

The Perfect Respite!

  • 5 of 5
We celebrated my boyfriend's 30th birthday here with some friends for the weekend and could not have been happier with our choice of Brigham Place. Bill was an incredible host who has thought of everything and was quick to answer any questions we had during our stay. The house is eclectic and comfortable, but we spent 90% of our time enjoying the view and the grill on the deck. There is a fantastic grocery store (Adams Fairacre Farms) a short drive away, which was very convenient. If you happen to come during summer, you must check out the amazing lightning bug show that happens nightly in the field across the street - it was unreal (thanks for the tip Bill)!! We can't wait to go back...

Awesome house with lots of character!!!

  • 5 of 5
This house was amazing. We went up for a nice bachelorette weekend for my friend. So much fun and quirky decor all over. Very relaxing to sit on the back deck and look at the water. The owner, William, had a great welcome packet when we arrived with some recommendations of food and activities. He also kept in touch through email to make sure everything was ok, which it was!! I would definitely recommend this house to others and I hope to stay there again!

Thrilling

  • 5 of 5
I spent the New Years Eve with 5 friends at Bill's wonderful cottage. The house is so pretty. It's surrounded by a river, trees and a huge corn field. There are other houses in the area but we didn't see many people while we were there.
We took walks all around in the corn fields and met two farmers. They were pretty friendly. One of them has a Bison farm and the other has a Lama farm. If you like animals, you should walk around and explore : )
Bill was very accommodating and friendly too! I definitely recommend this place.

SO this is a winge about Homeaway! Bill's kitchen, on the other hand, was near perfect for a Thanksgiving feast for 4. The rest of the house was ideal for post soporific napping, lounging and Netflix viewing. The comfortable beds promoted maximum rest and recuperation. Jack (the dog) enjoyed the deck and garden as well as duck and squirrel watching. We will be back in the summer to enjoy the bbq.

Poor communication still awaiting security deposit

  • 1 of 5
We contacted Bill to arrange a stay in the Hudson Valley house after reading positive comments from previous guests. Communication with Bill was initially very prompt, but once we had paid - emails dropped off and some enquiries went unanswered.
We had difficulty paying the security deposit as we do not have US checking accounts so sent the money by Paypal. Our visit ended on 8th October- it is now 22nd November and we are still waiting for the return of the deposit. We have written many emails and had many promises that the money was coming. We had an email 10 days ago promising we would have the money last week, we still don't have it and the owner has now gone silent.
The house itself is in a nice situation, some of the 'decoration' is more tacky than kitsch (the cheap metal hat stand with boxing gloves on each arm), but ok if you like that kind of thing.
The place was clean enough, we visited a few of the recommended places to eat which were fine, all were a drive away though so not ideal if you want to have a drink with dinner.
We have rented many holiday homes in the past and have never had any issue with money or return of deposits and we always leave places clean.
This experience has soured what would have been an ok 4 day break.
Fortunately, the place we went on to in New York City was professionally run and we received our deposit within a few days of our visit. If you are thinking of staying here, be careful. . .

Owner's Response: This was a very unfortunate situation with a very simple explanation and has long been settled.

In my contract, I clearly state that I require a check for a deposit and I do NOT cash the check and return it at the completion of the stay. I do not take cash or credit card payments as a deposit. As the stay came closer, the guest expressed their extremely busy schedule and the inconvenience of having to send a check via mail. I informed the guest that I have to have the deposit prior to the stay and that a check was my standard. In the end, I agreed to take the deposit via Paypal to make it easier for the guest but made it very clear that I would have to supply a check in return at the completion of the stay. Soon after the guests stay, as a standard procedure, I inquired about where to send a check for the deposit and it was at this point that the guest said that they could not receive a check due to their very busy schedule and despite our prior agreement. I do want to note that the guests were very good and respectful to the property.

To make a long story short, I made an exception to my rules and paid the price and that has happened a handful of times over the years. Have no fear.......as you can tell from the tons of stellar reviews... this is wonderful house with a very competent and proud management.

Cozy, Funky, AMAZING home

  • 5 of 5
Awesome house! I went with a group of 8 friends: we used the blowup mattress that the house included, and 2 people slept on the couches. I was worried it might be too small, but it was Perfect! We all walked around in hats and boots, ate every meal on the deck, swam in the creek, and jammed by the fire every night. On our way home we went into Saugerties to shop around, and got to meet Bill himself at his boutique, Rock Star Rodeo.

Overall a GREAT weekend! We will absolutely be returning!!!

Notes There is usually a cleaning fee of $125 but what most people have been doing lately is leaving the house close to how they found it- not washing sheets and everything but putting the towels in the tub, the sheets on top of the bed, running the dishwasher, wiping down the counters, doing a quick sweep and tidying up and I just waive the fee altogether.  It is totally up to the guest
