Enjoy a relaxing vacation in a popular resort area on the beautiful peninsula of Samana. Walk only 2 minutes to the beach or less than 10 minutes to quaint seaside restaurants. The house, covered in palm thatch, lends itself to indoor/outdoor living. Enjoy the large veranda, a thatched 'kiosko' and an outdoor kitchen with sink and barbecue. It is possible to have privacy even with a group of six but common areas are large enough to be together to cook, eat and have fun. Lounging, stargazing and birdwatching are special treats while having restful moments in the beautiful tropical gardens. There is a small sailing club within a fifteen minute walk along the beach where one can rent a hobi cat every day or have a good lunch on weekends.

Las Terrenas is located in the most tropical part of the Island of Hispaniola. There are 7 miles of gorgeous beaches and many water sports to enjoy, sailing, kitesailing, deep sea fishing, snorkeling and diving. A trip to the national park Los Haitises to see Taino caves or Samana Bay for whale watching is a great way to spend a day. Having lunch at a nearby beach restaurant before basking in the sun and swimming can't be beat! It is possible to arrange many trips easily or rent a quad and make your own adventure. If you're a cook you can buy a fresh tuna or dorado from a local fisherman. At night enjoy dancing or dining at one of the many clubs or restaurants in town.

Las Terrenas and Samana: Located on the North Coast of the mountainous and lushly tropical peninsula of Samana is the town of Las Terrenas. When we first visited in 1982 it was a small fishing village with no electricity and virtually no amenities. The beauty of the beaches and vegetation, the warm and silky turquoise water and golden sand took our breath away and we vowed that we would one day live there during the winter months.

Las Terrenas has changed and become a vibrant town with a diverse population of Europeans, Americans, Eastern Europeans and Dominicans. Because of its diversity there are great restaurants featuring various cuisines, good bakeries, and a very good supermarket. Fresh fruit, vegetables and fish are widely available from local Dominicans so for those who love to cook it is a delight to prepare a meal.

La Paloma is located so close to the beach (only a 2 minute walk) that is easy to stroll to the water for a dip. At night you can hear the surf to remind you that tomorrow can be just another beach day. There are chaises for sitting in the sun or shaded garden if you prefer a day 'at home'. We have entertained family and friends in La Paloma and no one has felt cramped or had difficulty in finding a private nook. There are 3 large tables for eating, playing chess or cards and doing puzzles. Light some candles and enjoy a romantic dinner or cocktails in the thatched roof 'kiosko'.

This was a fabulous place to stay! You couldn't beat the location.It was a short walk down the "driveway" to get to the beautiful beach, and another short walk up the beach to get to the restaurants (which were great!). You can easily get around without a rental car. The property itself was beautifully maintained and landscaped, with night-scented tropical flowers throughout! And the house itself had all the amenities you could want, complete with a very well equipped kitchen. (There was even a selection of games and puzzles available for the occasional rainy spell.) I would (and have) recommended La Paloma to friends, and can't wait to return myself! And by the way, this place would be a fantastic honeymoon destination.
