Very relaxing

Had a fabulous week. The condo was wonderful. It was like having our own private beach. We would walk out onto Xanadu beach and have it all to ourselves. It was clean, well-maintained, and exceedingly comfortable. We felt safe, especially on an island that appears to have been hit fairly hard by financial hardships. The owner was delightful to deal with, answered my questions, and even gave advice to a first time traveller to the Bahamas.
We rented a car for the week, and we needed it. The main location for shopping and restaurants is the Lucaya Marketplace. We shied away from the International Bazaar. We seemed to gravitate to Rum Runners, especially after finding the Bahamian restaurants were mainly geared toward tourism with the locals favoring KFC and the like. Food markets can be very expensive with many items costing at least twice what it would in the States. There were several people who made references to Winn Dixie, or places near Winn Dixie, however we never found a one and did our shopping at the City Market on the way to the Lucaya Marketplace. If you are thinking of I whole-heartedly recommend Grand Bahama Scuba if you are looking for that.
One word of warning, and a recommendation. The island seems to have power issues. We ended up parking outside the gates because they couldn't open. We also packed in the dark. There was a flashlight and a lantern, but neither had batteries. If it is an issue, and from all local accounts it is, a small stock of batteries would be very handy.
As I said, we had a great time. Don't go for the excitement (there's not much of that), go for the relaxation. I would highly recommend.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the heads up on the batteries. I will make sure there is a supply of batteries and flash lights. Elizabeth
