Read a Letter from a Recent Happy Guest: 'Our stay in NY and in your House were great! We really enjoyed the house and we were so happy we were not in Manhatten. We especially loved your kitchen. This was the place we sat in or in the garden. Lovely to sit there in the morning with a coffee. We also met Sylvia (neighbor) and Hannibal (her dog). We never used the sitting room because we had great weather all week.

Everything you told me about the house was right. No surprises or disappointments. It's a house with great character and we also liked the neighborhood. Nice people everywhere.

Thanks again for everything. Hope to come back once'

(May 2011).

The Neighborhood: Located in the historic district of Bedford-Stuyvesant; today a vibrant urban Caribbean/African American community (sandwiched in between the fascinating Hasidic areas of Crown Heights and Williamsburg), only 15 minutes from Prospect Park and Brooklyn Botanical Gardens/Zoo & Museum of Art. More and more young professionals are moving to Bedford-Stuyvesant in search of a neighborhood community and for its character, convenience and value for money. Nowhere else can you find such luxurious, spacious living, in the heart of New York City and only a 20 minute subway ride to Greenwich Village. Be advised that this is an area in transition. It is quiet and neighbors are warm and very friendly and whilst you will find an abundance of fresh fruit, seafood, meat and grocery stores -- there are few local restaurants and coffee shops. Not to worry -- Fort Greene and Williamsburg are only minutes away on foot, by bus or subway and home to some of today's best bars and restaurants in Brooklyn

Terms and Policies: A $500 security fee is required for each reservation. This will be refunded in full within 24 hours of departure (minus a -$140 cleaning/laundry fee), subject to no damage or violations - I'm pleased to say I have never had any problems with any tenants and the deposit has always been immediately refunded on departure.

All reservations are to be paid in full two weeks before arrival.

Cancellations made within 30 days notice will be refunded in full - minus any bank service fees. Cancellations made within 21 days notice will be subject to 30% penalty of the total reservation minus any bank fees. Cancellations made within 14 days notice will be subject to 50% penalty of the total reservation - minus any bank fees. Cancellations made within 7 days notice will be subject to loss of total security fee.

Clean, Comfortable, Cozy

Our party of 5 headed to NYC with two goals in mind: baseball (Citi Field and Yankee Stadium) and general exploration of NYC attractions. This Brownstone in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood in Brooklyn met our goal of an accommodation that was reasonably priced and also spacious and with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. We knew going in that getting around meant a 4-block walk to the subway station.

Making arrangements with the owner, Ruty, was easy and effortless. Emails were always answered promptly. The contract was straightforward and understandable. All correspondence was professional and friendly. Also, the tenants on the 4th floor (Dia and Sully) were exceptionally helpful, although we seldom saw them.

The Brownstone itself is updated, roomy, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is small but very well appointed and stocked with the basics. The large living area, on the second floor, has a flatscreen TV with hundreds of channels, including movie channels. The computer and printer in an adjacent room on this floor worked well and there is wireless internet throughout the apt.

We really enjoyed the restaurants that are "fairly" close (3-4 blocks) to the apt. In addition to Peaches and Peaches Hothouse - both of which are simply outstanding - we were surprised to find a few other restaurants that weren't mentioned in other reviews - on Lewis Street. Know that the immediate neighborhood does not have typical tourist amenities - shopping, bars, restaurants, cabs, etc. Access to Manhattan and upscale Brooklyn neighborhoods is by subway, which is always a walk.

The negatives - the fairly remote location and the steepness of the stairs in the apartment. This apt. is not for folks that don't like stairs! But then, NO Brownstone would be. One bedroom and bathroom are on the bottom floor, however.

For our group, the positives far outweighed those negatives. Our stay was great! Highly recommend for fit/adventure travelers.
Owner's Response: Thank you Wayne for your very kind words.

A good place to stay

We are a family of 5 (incl 3 teenagers from 14 to 19). Arriving late Sunday evening, we had booked a mini-van to pick us up at JFK, this worked very fine (we used the same car service for the return to JFK 14 days later). At the house in Brooklyn we were met by one of the two friendly tenants in the house. She showed us around and handed us two sets of keys, and then we were free to do whatever we wanted. The apt. is very well equipped, and (except for maybe a pizza slicer) we found absolutely everything we needed. The rooms are good, when we were all together we chose to sit around the kitchen table or in the backyard. (The listing description was very accurate, we did not get any surprises. The property was nice and clean when we arrived)
The house is located in a nice neighborhood with the C (and A) subway just a few minutes walk away. (local buses stop even closer). Thus exploring NY is very easy from here, Manhattan is 15-20 minutes away, Brooklyn Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge Park maybe 10 minutes, and Coney Island (where we went several times, fireworks every friday night during the summer)is approx. half an hour away.
We prepared some of our meals "at home", we did the shopping for this on Fulton Street where we found a big grocery store (At least for a Norwegian it was big). Deli's close by were also used for buying supplies.
All in all we were very pleased with our stay, and I would not hesitate to recommend this place. Dia and Sully were very friendly and it felt safe to have them staying in the building in case we needed any assistance. (We didn't, so we hardly noticed them during 14 days). The next door neighbors were also very friendly and we felt at home from the first day.
My only regret is that we didn't spend more time in Brooklyn, maybe next time.

We have a wonderful experience staying at this brick stone house in Brooklyn. Dealing with Ruty (the owner) was easy. She answered each and any question we have quickly and efficiently.
The house is located at eight minutes walk from NY subway and then it's only a 15 minutes ride to Manhattan. The neighbourhood looks safe at any time. There are several small places to buy some quick food nearby and a supermarket some blocks away.
The house has plenty of room. We were three adults, two teenagers and two children and we were very comfortable. The kitchen at the lower level was kind of a shelter to meet after a long day wandering around. With three levels, there is room for everybody. The house has everything you need for a short or long stay. It's an old house with wooden stairs than can be a little noisy .
At the upper floor there is a couple living (Dia and Sully). They are extremely helpful and I personally think this is not a drawback. I would definitely stay at this property again.
Owner's Response: Hi Carlos

We would definitely love to have you back again!!
Thanks for letting future guests know about the benefits of staying in our lovely home/neighborhood!!

A Fantastic Brooklyn Brownstone

My husband myself as well as my sister-in-law and brother-in-law called this fabulous brownstone home for one week. We were extremely happy with our stay in Brooklyn. The house looks exactly as it is represented in the photos. The location could not have been better as we were just a short couple of blocks from the subway. Having a washer and dryer available to use was a big plus as it allowed us to pack less. The neighborhood is full of families and is quite charming. We particularly enjoyed dining at Peaches on the corner. The fried chicken was so great that we ended up going there 3 times! We also found a few other places. Mac's Landing is less than a block away and is great for coffee or breakfast. Saraghina is an italian place that is a short walk. Dealing with Ruty the owner was a breeze and Dia and Sully were fantastic as our onsite contacts. I would not hesitate to stay here again. It was a fabulous first trip to NYC!
Owner's Response: Thank you Karen for such generous words. Your comments will certainly help other guests know what a treat it is to stay in our beautiful house in such an up and coming neighborhood. Much appreciated!!!!

My group was comprised of 2 couples and we found this wonderful Brownstone to be just what we needed. It is located very close to bus stops and the A/C metro. There are a couple of great restaurants nearby (Peaches Hothouse rocks) and it is within walking distance of more. We found we had plenty of room, the house was quiet (we never heard Sully and Dia coming or going). The kitchen was well-appointed. It definitely was a home away from home on our visit to Brooklyn/NYC. Thank you Ruty, Sully and Dia.
Owner's Response: Hello Philip,
Thanks for such kind words. We're delighted you had such a good stay:)
Come again!
