Hammondsport Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Each side has 2 BR + new convertible sofa, 1 bath upstairs. Sleeps 5-7

This terrific, furnished, year round, fully equipped and tastefully decorated, 2 bedroom/1 bath, 2 -story duplex is located 4 miles north of Hammondsport on a quiet property on one of the largest points on the lake. Each side of the duplex is available for rent and is similarly furnished.

During 2014, we added freshly painted interiors in warm and contemporary colors, new beds, bedding and bath accessories and updated the living room furniture to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. An oversized, park-like lot gives plenty of room for BBQs and picnics, and has a 50’ walk through beautiful deciduous woods to the shoreline, swimming area, fire pit and dock. Excellent swimming, magnificent views, gorgeous trees, a dock for your boat and a hikable creek immediately adjacent to the property for family exploration.

Newly refinished, gleaming hardwood floors, large rooms and built-in pantry cupboards will provide plenty of Finger Lakes comfort. With plenty of living space, it'll cater to your vacation needs in any season.

Close to historic Hammondsport, on the popular winery trails, access to marinas, public parks, boat launches, restaurants & tourist attractions. Has its own expansive Keuka Lakefront - all natural, shallow at shore w/gradual deepening is perfect for families with young children who like to wade in the water. Good fishing from waterfront, adjacent creek for hiking and exploring. Dock can accommodate up to 18' boat. Prime gathering place that caters to friends & families seeking to vacation together and have privacy.

Gracious lot has plenty of area for recreation and respite. Picnic table, outdoor furniture, charcoal grill, plenty of convenient, off-street parking. Front and rear porches to put your feet up and relax. Walk across the back yard to enjoy access to 75' on a quiet 500' of Keuka Lakefront, complete with dock, Adirondack chairs, picnic table, and fire pit.

The duplex has two sides for rent each with 2 BR/1BA (on 2nd floor), full kitchen, separate washer/dryer. Rent both sides to sleep up to a total of 14 people. Quiet hours are 10 PM - 7 AM: because this is a duplex in a quiet neighborhood, voices do carry in the summer night so these hours are strictly enforced.

Keywords: Duplex - 2 identical sides available. Each side sleeps 7.

About Dan Box

The duplex sits on property that has been in our family since 1931. We are devoted to maintaining it and making it available to others the unique setting we have on the lake.

Dan Box purchased this apartment in 1931

Why Dan Box chose Hammondsport

This is one of the largest points on the lake and has a remarkable amount of undeveloped acreage right on the lake. It's a very quiet neighborhood which will make your stay relaxing and comfortable. The property is gently sloping down to the water which make for easy lake access. We think you'll love it!

What makes this apartment unique

Easily accessed shoreline with gradual slope in to water. Great for kids and waders. There is a creek running through the property with waterfalls which is terrific exploring for young and old alike. A large lawn is great for frisbee, tossing a ball, BBQs. Nice beach furniture with a fire pit will make your lakeside time fully enjoyable. Nearby wineries, quiet environment.

It depends on who you are

  • 2 of 5
We went as a group of friends looking for a fun place to spend our week. We were there for a wedding, and for many of us it was our only vacation for the year. The place was nice. It was exactly what I expected it to be for the price. The location and walk down to the beach were great. Super nice view and dock. Really a great place to stay.

HOWEVER, the manager made our stay 'fair'. It really seemed like he had nothing better to do than babysit us. He came to our door numerous times. We weren't whispering, but we weren't having a party either. We were just hanging out playing cards at the kitchen table. He made a remark to one of our group members the next morning as he was reading a book by the beach. The manager approached him and said "Now you're getting it." It was very rude and condescending. We were 30 minutes behind leaving the house at checkout, but all of our stuff was in the drive. We had evacuated the building and were just waiting on our ride. The manager stood in the yard with his arms crossed just staring at us. He told us where to park then later in the week scolded us for parking there. We felt like we were walking on egg shells the whole time.

Basically, if you're a small family that plans on sleeping from the hours of 10pm to 9am (quiet hours strictly enforced), this place is great. If you plan on relaxing with a few cocktails and enjoying your week, don't stay here.

Owner's Response: There are always two sides to the story. There were 7 young adults in the group arriving on Saturday to attend a wedding the following Friday. On their first night, Saturday night we were awakened by loud voices at 2:30 am. There was salty language in a phone call made on the back lawn but it didn't last long and we didn't say anything about this to these tenants.

Sunday night at midnight, we were awakened by loud voices as these guests returned from a night out. Since the other half of this property was rented to a family that have been regular renters for several years, the volume and hour, I walked up and asked if the new renters would please be respectful of the family sleeping on the other side. It’s summer at the lake, all the windows are open and voices travel far in the stillness of the night. I was courteously greeted by one of the renters and was there for just a few moments, believing the issue had been resolved. Once back on bed, I then heard loud female voices on the beach. Rather than approaching these women on a dark beach, I (a male) again walked up to the apartment, reconnected with the same guest, explained the quiet hours, requested he ask the women to leave the beach. Again, I was greeted courteously, and believed that the problem was resolved.

We have since clarified where to park (there is plenty of parking, conveniently located) and what the quiet hours are. We greatly appreciate our repeat renters and also want to make the lake experience a good one for all those who reside nearby. We agree that this renter was not a good fit for us.

Great for pets & younger families, fairly priced, not best for mobility challenged but do-able

I gave 4 stars b/c it wasn’t the best fit for us but it’s a wonderful property that would be ideal for many travelers. The entire area is beautiful and the lake is clear, clean & cool! Farmers markets occur on different days of the week around the lake so fresh food is plentiful. Our visit timed out with the annual crafts show, which was great. Hammondsport has excellent restaurants, too, (Village Tavern and UBI) and don’t forget the Artisan’s Bakery! There is a small grocery store in Hammondsport and a Tops Market in Penn Yan. Penn Yan has the best ice cream shop, too. Hammondsport’s ice cream parlor sells Perry’s brand and it’s closer but I thought the ice cream mediocre.

The property was as described online and the photos are accurate. The key provided didn’t open the front door, which was inconvenient so if you get there after dark, have a flashlight. There are a lot of stairs (14 inside, not sure how many out back) so it was not ideal for my 87 year old mother. No bathroom on the first floor makes this house better for a younger family. Also, caution upstairs – the railing is low, which for an older person with balance issues could cause a little vertigo. This is an old duplex so we heard creaking floor boards and the sound of bedroom doors sticking as they are opened on the other side of the wall.

The entire site is flat, a big plus in this area. The yard is huge and perfect for kids and pets. The lake is just past a stand of trees, which is fun but they do block the view. If you like to lounge, bring your own chair. Plastic chairs were provided but we had nothing comfy to stretch out on and the beach is shale.

Initially, our experience was soured b/c the house had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. We took possession after the realtor’s office closed so by time we spoke with the property mgr we had already cleaned up the place. When the owner learned of this, he was appalled and apologetic but the mgmt company made satisfactory amends, which is good. Sh*t happens at times so how it’s dealt with counts.

Remember to bring linens (sheets, pillow cases and towels), laundry detergent (washer/dryer in basement), bath soap, shampoo, TP and paper towels. For some reason, there were no adult-sized forks. However, had we read the provided paperwork more closely, we would have known to check with the unit next door as sometimes one group rents both sides and things migrate.

One wish – a dishwasher so that everyone knows the dishes are clean.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your input and tips for other renters. Yes, this is an older duplex and we have worked hard to make it as comfortable for our renters, and we upgrade components for each season and we pay particular attention to ensuring that the kitchen is well stocked – adult forks included. We will re-examine the possibility of a dishwasher, but want to reiterate we are restricted by space in the kitchen.

We will replace the door locks; we had not realized they were as problematic as they apparently are. We will also replace the beach furniture next year and include some chaise lounges. As for the cleaning, you are correct that we were horrified - we have not had this experience before with our cleaning service and certainly expect it not to happen again. We hope that the extra two days free rental were appropriate compensation.

Great location, property itself though below par

  • 3 of 5
The location (close to downtown Hammondsport, on Keuka Lake) is unquestionably great. The unit itself however underperforms: for 5-7 people (as listed), 1 bathroom is not enough - similar units rented by me in the past usually had an additional 1/2 bathroom. Kitchen is well stocked but no dishwasher? Also, washer/dryer would be great for emergencies. Mattresses and pillows are of the cheapest possible kind - creaky uncomfortable beds affect your sleep... These small things individually added up to a mediocre experience that should have been so much better.

Owner's Response: We take feedback from all our renters seriously. Each year, we continue to upgrade important parts of these rental units - furniture, kitchen stock, electronics. We have replaced all the previous mattresses in the past two years and check them each year but will certainly check them again. Feedback on the bedding is appreciated and will result in us prioritizing this for the next set of purchases. As for a dishwasher and washer/dryer, we’ve accurately indicated they are not available (due to space limitations). The same is true for the single bathroom. While we know we can’t please everyone, we like to believe we have many happy renters due to the volume of repeat customers we have each season.
Update 11/11/12: We have purchased six adirondack chairs and 3 beach tables to improve the beach environment.

Outstanding vacation rental! Cottage is very well equipped and AAA+ for cleanliness

  • 5 of 5
I had the pleasure of stayig at the Keuka Lake Duplex this month (October 2010) and found that the property was even more charming and lovely than the site displayed. The purpose of my visit was to see, enjoy, hike in and mostly photograph the wonderful Fall color of the Finger Lakes Region. My expectations were exceeded. We were indeed lucky to have fabulous weather however the property, the waterfront and the charm of the cottage made the stay memorable.

I would highly recommend this property....without reservation of any kind. I use VRBO at least 3-4 times per year throughout the US and you will not go wrong with this rental.

Nearby attractons are numerous - depending on your interests. The Figer Lakes Wineries of course are awesome...and drives around several of the Finger Lakes provide a great way to relax and enjoy some outstanding scenery. Watkins Glen, Letchworth State Park, and of course the Mountour Falls Town and 'falls/park' of the same name - not to be missed.

I really believe, depending on your personal tastes, just hanging out at the cottage and beach would make for a wonderful, laid back, low key vacation. The cottage is wonderfully furnished and since I planned to cook 100% of all meals 'in' I was wonderfully surprised to find a fully equipped kitchen with all needed pots/pans/utensils etc.

Spacious Lot, clean duplex!

  • 4 of 5
The property here is absolutely spacious! Unlike some other properties along the Keuka shoreline, this duplex and lot gave us plenty of privacy and room for the kids to run. Comfortable, reasonable and clean. We would go back.
