Wainiha House Rental Photos and Description

Private home, 1 bedroom + loft, 1 bathroom, sleeps 2-4; License# TVR-1065

Kauai License# TVR-1065

Tucked away on over an acre of lush paradise along the Wainiha Stream in an ancient grove of 100 ft. tall mango trees lies the Hale Wainiha (Wainiha Cottage). Offering privacy, rest and refreshment, this charming home sits on a bluff overlooking an expansive view of the entire river valley with neighboring taro farm and spectacular vistas of distant mountains. Relax and enjoy the amazing views from the deck or from your private pool and hot tub. Starry nights in the hot tub are truly magical. And the pool is cool and refreshing after a hot day at the beach. Or the perfect morning wake up. The large yard is like a botanical garden filled with exotic birds and flowers and fruit trees. Pick a Papaya or a Banana, cut some giant Heliconia flowers. The property meanders down to over 200' of private stream, feel free to take a refreshing dip. The sounds of the river and the croaking frogs will lull you to sleep. This lush valley is a serene retreat, nourishing the soul with natures greatest beauty while offering all the modern comforts of home, you almost won't want to leave the property. But when you do, it is ridiculously close to the best beaches on the island, Tunnels, Lumahai, Ke'e and Hanalei. Firstly, Lumaha'i, just 1 mile away, with its long deep stretches of soft sand broken by picturesque protrusions of lava rocks creating dramatic ocean breaks. Tunnels Beach has an amazing reef and offers the best snorkeling on the island, also surfing and the mountain backdrop creates amazing views. At the end of the road is the dramatic Ke'e beach. Besides its great snorkeling, and sunsets, this is the gateway to the amazing Napali Coast offering one of the worlds most spectacular hikes. The 2 mile hike to Hanakapia'i Beach with it's expansive ocean vistas is a 'must do', but if you can do the additional 2 miles to the Hanakapia'i Falls you're in for the treat of a lifetime. A large pool fed by a 300' waterfall, just spectacular!! Wainiha is surrounded by the best snorkeling, surfing, kayaking and hiking on all of the Hawaiian islands. You'll never have to leave this magical corner of the island.

Just 4 miles away is Hanalei Bay with its pristine 3 mile crescent beach of fine sand and perfect surf. The quaint town of Hanalei offers interesting shops, a market, and world class dining. My personal favorites are 'Tahiti Nui' (live music, good Mai Tais) and the 'Dolphin' (freshest sushi you've ever eaten). You can rent kayaks and paddle up the Hanalei river or out to the bay, paddle to Hideaways beach and snorkel, or just land at the St. Regis beach and have lunch at the poolside cafe, (sneak a dip in their beautiful pool). Also you can go Horseback Riding or Ziplining at the Princeville Ranch, or take the amazing Helicoptor ride from the Princeville Heliport. Or do it my way, just take a book and relax on a quiet beach. You'll have your private paradise waiting for your every day when you're ready to go home.

This has been absolutely the best trip ever!! We love Kauai! We spent a week on Oahu before coming here and found it too commercial. Tunnels has been our favorite beach so far (inclufdign the caribbean)! The fish and reef there is amazing. My husband squeezed himself into a scuba session with Kauai down under Scuba. We also did the Kalalau trail and spent 2 nights on Kalalau. what a rewarding sight after the grueling 11 mile hike, When we got back we went straight to Hanalei Day Spa for a nice lomi lomi massage (awesome!). Our favorite restaurant in Hanalei was the Dolphin. their fish is really fresh. the waitress even took us for a tour of their fish locker. for cheaper eats we went to Bubba's Burgers and Hanalei Pizza ( the wild pig is the best pizza I've ever had). A great trip, great fun, awesome place and the perfect way to spend our 5 year anniversary. we can't wait to come back and try out the things we missed and to do a few things over.

Aloha from Makua Beach (Tunnels) on the beautiful North Shore of Kauai. I am an architect based in Los Angeles. I have designed many high end resorts and casinos. I come to Kauai for inspiration and rejuvenation. I am happy to share my piece of paradise with others who appreciate beauty and the magic of nature's gifts.

Jeffrey Schneider purchased this house in 2006

I am a well traveled person and the Wainiha River Valley is the absolutely the most beautiful spot I've ever seen, and once I found it I decided to make it a permanent part of my life.

This cottage is in a location that we called paradise. Having coffee in the morning on the deck looking at some of the most beautiful plant life you will ever see. There were even banana trees with bananas , Mango trees, different birds of paradise plants and lots of others. Tunnels Beach is just down the road which is the best place on the island to snorkel. Jeffery who owns the cottage was very helpful with ideas and things to explore. I would make sure to do the door off helicopter ride with Jack Carters Helicopter to see all of the island. Also , Jeffery was a pleasure to work with and we will be back.

We spent a week in this amazing spot. ( which is not enough time)
If you are looking for solitude, peace and quiet, this is the place. Booking was a breeze and Jeffrey provided several suggestions for adventures. Lovely spot can't wait to return.

We spent 10 nights at the Hale Wainiha for our 15 year anniversary & absolutely loved it! We can't imagine a more romantic setting. The cottage was well stocked with everything we could possibly need - beach chairs, mats, coolers, spices, & more. The free WiFi & long distance was nice too. Jeffrey was wonderful to work with & sent us information on lots of things to do beforehand. We only left the North shore 1 day for a "doors off" helicopter ride (Jack Harter Helicopters) which we highly recommend. Other than that, there's more than enough to do on the North shore. The beaches were more secluded, there were stretches where we didn't see a single person. We went to Poipu beach after our helicopter tour on the south side & it was crowded. North shore beaches were more private with fewer people which is what we love. We took the 8-mile roundtrip hike on the Napali coast trail. It was absolutely breathtaking. But if you're just used to walking (instead of hiking) you might want to stop at the beach. We were a little sore the next day. On the day we arrived, we didn't make it to the cottage until after dark. The cleaning staff had left lots of lights on for us so we made it inside with no problems at all. The next morning we walked out the back door & just stood in awe...the beauty is indescribable. Everywhere we looked there was something else to see that took our breath away. After a rain shower, we could see a beautiful waterfall in the distance from the deck/yard. The property manager, Koko, left us fresh papaya & bananas on an outside chair early in our stay which was very nice. We also had the best pineapple we've ever tasted, amazing! Kalypso's in town has awesome food & giant portions, we ate there several times & everything we had was delicious. Lacy was such a sweetheart! She was always nearby, but mostly kept to herself. We wanted to bring her home! Most evenings we returned to the cottage & enjoyed the private pool & hot tub. We even sat in the hot tub in the rain one night & had a blast. But the starry nights were just incredible. Jeffrey has done an amazing job with the gardens/landscaping around the cottage & with the cottage itself. If you're going to Kauai, you have to stay on the North shore. It's the most beautiful place we've ever seen. And if you're staying on the North shore, we highly recommend you stay at the Hale Wainiha. When we return to Kauai, we definitely will! Thank you for sharing your home & little piece of paradise! Mahalo!

A handwritten piece of cardboard on a pole saying "Powerhouse Road" marks the narrow road you must turn on to reach your destination. You notice a discarded stove sitting by the side of the road, and pass some rusting corrugated roofed buildings on your way up the hill. However, after a mile, tropical foliage takes over and soon it's time to take the steep driveway down to your hideaway cottage. Once out of the car, stepping onto the deck, you have to pinch yourself to believe the startling beauty around you is real. High above are towering mountains, and below there is a valley with a little river flowing by. Surrounding you everywhere, the property is alive with exuberant colorful foliage and flowers, birds singing. The magic of the place is hard to describe! As the primary photo illustrates, you have the feeling of total privacy, though there are actually neighbors on either side whom you never see. Jeffrey, the owner, has stocked the house with most anything you might need, kitchen staples, cooking utensils, shampoo, soap, and so on. It's very comfortable and cozy for two people. Though there is a loft above the main level with two beds, the one bathroom is accessed only through the bedroom below. The owner goes out of his way to give you all kinds of information on the are, and as a guest you feel well supported in every way. A little pool and jacuzzi are fun additions.

Everything you could want, desire and need! We adore this cottage & didn't want to go home!

We ADORE your cottage….the design is not only charming, but so functional as well. We fell in love with the marble shower and the Capresso milk frother (which I just ordered today from Bed, Bath and Beyond). We were so comfortable because you have thought of everything (and beyond) that we could need. We’ve stayed at a lot of places over the years and your home is the most thoughtfully supplied place we’ve ever rented. And we love your paintings! I wondered early in our visit if your sell them locally, then John mentioned you did. Gorgeous, all of them. I had a particular fondness for the small painting of the red beach guard stand.

Your gardens…..fabulous! We always tour the botanical gardens when we visit. I have a love of tropical flowers and always enjoy the gardens. But really your garden had more flowers than the garden we visited!

The setting and view…..Not only did we enjoy the peace and quiet (we like crowing roosters…even at 1 in the morning), but I looked forward each night to coming off the beach and out of the sun to our lush and cool retreat. The tropical birds, crickets and bull frogs made for a relaxing soundtrack. And the stars!

The beaches…..we found a few favorites and visited them every day. We seek out the least popular and the ones harder to get to. A favorite turned out to be Larsen (Larson?) Beach. No…not because we like sunning and swimming in the nude, but because the only people there were a few nudists and a few folks like us who don’t care about seeing nudists. Very gorgeous, unpopulated and quiet.

Hanelai…..It’s been years but it doesn’t seem to have grown much larger, which made me happy. I can’t tell you how happy I was to find Harvest Market (the “health” food store). We are vegans (we did eat a little fish while there) so that made things easier. We enjoyed a delicious meal at Neidie’s Mexican and Brazilian Restaurant. It’s located in the brown building by Bar Acuda Lounge. It’s on the back side next to the Yellowfish Trading Co. We had Ahi tuna enchiladas and the vegetable stuffed burrito. REALLY yummy! And we had a Mai Tai of course. Even yummier.

Sterm and all his friends…..It’s hard to go on a vacation and leave your pets at home. I always talk to everyone’s dogs and pet every animal I can find. How nice it was to have Sterm (short for The Exterminator) to take care of.

And finally Koko. We were instantly charmed with Koko and felt comforted leaving each day knowing he was close.

All I can say is unbelievable. The cottage was charming and the views absolutely breathtaking. We chose this place for our 25th wedding anniversary and we are definitely happy that we did. It was everything that was advertised and more.
On top of that the owner provided us with so many recommendations of places to see and things to do that we felt as though we knew our way around. We didn't spend our vacation spinning our wheels trying to figure out what we wanted to do.
We came during the rainy season on the North Shore which just made everything that much more lush and beautiful. We were also able to take in some sun by driving to the South Shore on those rainy days. You couldn't ask for a more beautiful setting for a romantic getaway. Yes there are neighbors but the landscaping is so profuse its like you have your own little piece of paradise.
Mahalo Jeffrey for allowing the use of your home.
