Heated pool, warmth and charm on the beach!! Newly rennovated and expanded kitchen (pics by end of Feb)! From the moment you walk in the house to be greeted by a famous and fun Walter Palmer pelican sculpture, the finishing touches on this charismatic 1964 house come from Savannah brick, aged heart pine floors, and knobby cypress and pecky-pine walls, reclaimed from a historic Savannah parish house. The house is buffered from the beach by a 20x50 yard, beautifully landscaped open-space, and the front side of the house is bordered by two lagoons;, bringing the house to feel like a private, peaceful sanctuary! This timeless, beautifully designed home is featured in the first few pages of the book 'Three Decades of Hilton Head Architecture'.
The house has been meticulously maintained and improved over the years by a family member/property manager, who lives two miles away and is on call 24/7 to guarantee your satisfaction and answer any questions.
As a family, we've really enjoyed visiting and owning a piece of Hilton Head since 1965!
Greg Schenkel purchased this house in 1976
We've rooted into HH and Sea Pines since 1965!
This house was exactly what we were looking for! We are extremely thankful to Greg for sharing his charming home. We wanted a house that was owner/managed. We have found these houses to be quite a bit better in our experience.
This is what we loved:
Each of the 5 bedrooms had it's own bathroom.
The beach was large and beautiful! The kids loved the pool and the decks as well.
The location was perfect for biking. The bike trails are well done in Sea Pines.
The kitchen is well stocked and the family room was perfect to get everyone together talk, play games, watch a movie. We loved the layout of the house.
I agree with all of the reviews below. I was thankful to read them when I was looking for a house, then to agree with them once I arrived at the house.
I would absolutely recommend this house to my friends and return!
This home offers a fabulous setting for large family vacation. Greg was hospitable and personable. Stayed in contact with us to insure all was going well without being a pest. The place was a perfect location oceanside and close to everything. Not fancy-smancy, but lots of character and clean. The home is stocked with everything from beach toys to fabric softener. You name it...they got it, no expense spared. Our dog loved it! Very reasonably priced in the off season for the Gold Coast. Live like a millionaire. Will return in the fall.
Our large group, aged 1 to 80, totally enjoyed our stay at this great beach house. We had tons of room to move around, and plenty of private area for when we needed our space. It was a comfortable house, we loved the vintage beach house feel. The kitchen was great, everything we needed to make tasty meals, and the spice cupboard was an added treat! :) There was even a nice bottle of wine in the fridge for our first toast on the island. Everyone had their own comfy bed and en-suite bathroom, and the master was a great haven for our parents when they needed some quiet time. Greg was a wonderful host, and checked in to make sure we had what we needed.
Our favorite place to gather was the beach deck. A hammock to read in, table and chairs for the card players, and lounge chairs for the rest of us. We even got to watch Greg on his kite surfer as he skidded along and jumped the waves! The pool was great - the kids especially loved it when we heated it (weather was a little "off" for a few days), and practically lived there.
The house is in a great location, close to shops, restaurants, etc., and there is plenty of parking.
It was a fabulous two weeks. Thanks Greg and family, we're still talking about our fun vacation, and looking forward to returning next year. :) Great place!!
Most beatiful location we've ever stayed in 30 years of travel.
Brought our family of five to stay in this gorgeous home and it felt like home as soon as we walked through the door. The location is wonderful, the house is set off the beach a little which makes it very private and quiet, but still beachfront. The views of the ocean are gorgeous from the house and porches. The kitchen is awesome for cooking. The pool is beautiful and the house is just so comfortable and spotless. We didn't want to leave. We plan to visit again. Greg is the best and he did show up in that gorgeous lime green Caddie!! He is a gracious host and is ready with information, helpful suggestions, directions, and to take family Christmas pictures!! If you are looking at Sea Pines, look no further!! There is lots of room for a big family, but it is perfect for a small one, too. Lots of room to spread out and find a quiet spot. We left some puzzles and books for the next visitors!! Enjoy!! We took our dogs, and a crate was provided so we didn't have to bring one. Oh, and if you are a Buckeye, make sure you visit Brian at Mangiamo's, especially on Game Day! Great food!! Salty Dog, too. Sea Pines is a beautiful area, lots to see and do, close to Savannah. We would recommend this home for sure!!
We are going to be staying in this home in November and we are so excited already,we cannot wait!! The main reason is that Greg has been so super helpful already and he has gotten us very excited about being there. We will write another review later, but just our booking experience was so good, I had to say something! I talked with so many people and places before we booked and nothing compared to Greg!! We are bringing our little family of 4, 1 baby and 2 pups and are so looking forward to relaxing and enjoying each other!!! Thank you, Greg!!!
Beach Lagoon offers a uniquely private beach, since only 2 rows of homes feed into the 3/4 mile long beach!
