About Honore Lee

I am fortunate to claim Grand Haven as my hometown. This is a beautiful lake-shore community where family and friends reside and gather year-round. After university in Kalamazoo, my husband and I settled in that vibrant community to work and raise our family. He works in real estate and I am an artist and educator. The locale here is perfectly suited to our professional endeavors and our interests. We both enjoy kayaking on the big lake, walking the beach and cycling.

Why Honore Lee chose Grand Haven

This property has been in my family for over 100 years. The original home was a small, single-story cottage with a wide front porch on a sandy dune. While the dune is still sandy, the home not be maintained as it was, and so we tore it down and re-built on the same site. It now is oriented toward the lake, with a full second floor and an open plan on the main level. We love it here, and to share the lake breezes and comfortable setting with travelers.

What makes this house unique

Grand Haven can be a bustling town in the summer, and we feel that our dune-side location offers privacy and relaxation while still within walking distance of the action. In addition, the beach is expansive and inviting, just a downhill walk away! A favorite sunset viewing spot is at the top of the public staircase, "Weber's Stairs"-- grab a drink and join in for a toast to the day!

Autumn Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This place was the perfect retreat for our autumn get-away. Most people know how beautiful the Lake Michigan shoreline is in the summer, but some may not know just gorgeous autumn is in West Michigan. The home is spacious, comfortable and equipped with modern efficiencies. We would highly recommend this place for any occasion.

August in Grand Haven

  • 5 of 5

We spent one week during August of 2013 and 2014 with our daughter and son-in-law and their two small children. We loved this spot and the little guys did also. What more can a little boy ask for with a sand dune so near the house. Oh water, yes that is a little further away but still easy to get to by car or a relatively short walk. The 2 or 3 items that we thought could break were put up high until the day we left. They were watched so would not tumble down stairs inside or out. The sunsets were gorgeous, ice cream in town was delicious, walk to the end of the pier is my favorite activity and Lake Michigan is a favorite spot. Thanks to the Lees!

Not well suited for children

  • 2 of 5

This house is fine for adults but not children. There are one of a kind handmade vases, a white fabric couch and perfectly white walls that will make any parent with kids nervous and uncomfortable. I would not recommend this place to anyone with kids.

Owner's Response: Two of the previous reviewers are families with small children; one family returns annually to our home. When our cleaning team came to tend to their duties after this family left they were met with crayon marks on our slider door and end tables, feces on the bathroom floor, a broken vase, torn and filthy upholstery as well as reporting missing sheets. This was an unprecedented incident and one that I would not expect any homeowner to experience, whatever their decor consists of. In a situation like this, I would be mindful of parental responsibility regarding children's activities. Having fun on a family vacation and being respectful of other's property results in a positive experience for all.

Pre-Memorial Week in Grand Haven

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house & location! Newer home w/ an open floor plan, located a flight of stairs away from the beach/lake & a short walk into Grand Haven along the boardwalk (1.5 miles). The house had all the amenities to grill & cook, plus you were only a short drive to many restaurants. Highly recommended!!

Great family vacation

  • 5 of 5

What a spectacular way to end the summer! This rental was perfect for the 2 of us and our 2 young children. It was great to have 3 full baths available when we walked back from the beach. Mornings on the porch sipping coffee and watching the kids playing in the sandy dune area in the yard was a relaxing way to start the day and evenings around the small fire pit roasting marshmallows capped off the nights. It was also very relaxing to fall asleep to sounds of the waves with the cool lake breezes. We didn't even need to use the air conditioning. We highly recommend this residence and hope we have the opportunity to stay again.

Beautiful home with gorgeous Lake Michigan views!

  • 5 of 5

We were so pleased to find this beautiful home nestled high atop the sand dune overlooking Lake Michigan. The house and decor are pristine yet very comfortable and family friendly as well. We loved the breezes that fill the house especially at night and enjoyed eating outside on the lovely deck surrounded by tiki lamps. We will definitely be coming back. Thank you for a fabulous beach vacation!
