SEASIDE CAPE COD ESCAPE-NORRIS COTTAGE: 3 MINUTES TO THE BEACH

Hyannis - Hyannisport House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Escape year-round to this charming bungalow for a well-deserved break. Lovingly refurbished to reflect a marine sanctuary, it’s perfect for a family vacation or solitary retreat. Custom-built in the 1930’s by Brad Norris for his wife’s “summer business”, it sports hardwood floors throughout with fine woodwork accents.

Quaint and comfortable, you will find all the amenities of home with the simple things of life at your fingertips and footsteps. Pull into our oyster-shelled driveway, unpack, and take a walk up to the Hyannis Port Golf Club for the spectacular sunset over Squaw Island. Walk to Sea Street Market for sundries, groceries, newspapers, beer and specialty wines, along with tasty deli selections.

We are a 3-minute walk to serene Sea Street Beach, with Picnic Area, Bath House and Snack Bar. We’ve watched osprey dive for minnows there at low tide! The popular beaches: Veteran’s, Kalmus, (ideal winds for the best sail boarding in New England), and Craigville, are short hops away.

Main Street restaurants feature casual and fine dining with daily catches from local fishing vessels. Visit the Hyannis Harbor Docks to see fish and lobsters being off-loaded, while you shop at the local artisan kiosks. Popular restaurants dot Ocean Street and offer a view of Hyannis Harbor.

Nightlife abounds and cinemas feature box office greats. Enjoy summer theater performances at The Cape Playhouse and unique foreign films shown at The Cape Cod Art Museum. Farm-fresh food is available through “Edible Cape Cod” farm members and Farmer’s Markets. Agri-Tourism farms bring back times past with “Pick Your Own” options, tours, hikes, hayrides and workshops. The local wineries host tastings to showcase specialty wines.

Treat yourself to a quiet home base from which to explore the whole Cape, including the Massachusetts Cultural Coast. Be really “Green”, bring your bikes and ride the bike trails for miles through The Cape Cod National Seashore and beyond. 'Cape Cod Rails to Trails' will give you a great workout with views of cranberry bogs, marshes, and ocean panoramas. Go fishing for trout, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel and bluegill at one of the 365 kettle hole ponds, or surf cast off Dennis Beach.

Private and public golf courses are minutes away and across town, historic Route 6A will pique your architectural and antique sweet tooth. We are 45 minutes from historical Provincetown, where you can experience the sand dunes, sunset horseback rides, and shop for unique art and entertainment.

Whether this is your summer vacation or a spur of the moment getaway during the winter, leave your cares at home. Come read, write a book, finish a project, sketch, or photograph the beauty of the ocean and its environs. Off-season, short stays for weddings, conferences, and business are also available. For more pictures and information, please see our website below.

Guestbook comments from the owner
The Norris cottage was perfect for our stay on Cape Cod! We liked Hyannis and the location so close to Seas Street Beach and away form the hubbub of Main Street In 3 ½ days here, we went boogie boarding at Coast Guard Beach, whale watching at P-town, ( we saw 8 individ8ual whales and 20 dolphins), and bicycling to Woods Hole. We also got to see our friend Kami Lyle play music at The Black Cat. The cottage had everything we needed. We loved the outdoor shower! Thanks for being our host, Elaine!

As a chef, I enjoy local seafood and teach at a local university. My husband puts his software engineer expertise to work anywhere we go. Staying at the Cape gives us a mini-vacation whenever we spend time here. Our favorite walks and sunsets are right around the corner. We have the most fun going shellfishing and sharing nature's bounty with family and friends. The peace and quiet are refreshing and give us a great perspective on what is really important; nature, family, great food and meeting our guests!

The Owner purchased this house in 2007

Our smaller cottage next door was my home for years. As our family grew, we needed more room for our grandchildren and friends. Hence, we were lucky enough to purchase the bungalow which has been a favorite family reunion spot.

We enjoy the peace and quiet, long walks and easy access to activities like fishing, island visits to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket and Provincetown. Our outdoor shower is so refreshing and convenient, we use it far into the fall season as well. Our winter sojourns here are as comfortable and relaxed as summer, so we hope you consider coming during off-season as well for a well-deserved break or to enjoy the holidays.

Perfect stay at a perfect place

  • 5 of 5
My family and I really enjoyed staying at Norris cottages. We all enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and the lovely surroundings in walking distance to the beach.
Everything was a described on the home page. The owners were easy to contact if there were any issues and the guest book was very useful.
It was the second time we spend a vacation there and will for sure return.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5
The cottage was in an awesome location. 2 minute walk to the beach depending how fast you walk!! Took my husband and son 4 minutes!! Cottage was spotless which was very important to us. Only issue was that while we were out having fun in the sun all day and were exhausted by 10 pm our neighbors in your other home stayed in all day and had dinner between 9-12 pm so their lights and porch lights were blaring in the bedroom windows. Couldnt quite understand why there were no shades to pull down on the windows. After 4 nights of no sleep we hung towels over the windows which helped immensely.

Our 3rd family holiday in Cape Cod

  • 4 of 5
The cottage felt like a home away from home: it was well stocked and comfortable. Having a nice private side yard to sit out in and have a drink after a day at a beach we could walk to or a day sightseeing in Hyannis or elsewhere in the Cape was wonderful. Elaine and John were both readily available for any questions we had prior to arriving and even helped us with recommendations when we were there. The location is perfect: mid-Cape and walking distance of a lovely downtown and beach. The air conditioning was appreciated along with the welcome gift. We had a wonderful holiday.

Location perfection!

  • 5 of 5
The cottage could not be more conveniently located: the 3 beaches, great restaurants, the ferries to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, shopping on Main St. in Hyannis, Cape League baseball, and the transportation center for the bus from Boston and the mid-Cape excursion train--ALL of them within walkable distance.
The cottage itself was charming, spotless, and comfortable. It was well-stocked with kitchen cookware and utensils, bed-bath-beach linens, books, games, beach chairs and toys, a great grill, the outdoor shower, and we had all of our meals on the new patio where we could admire the hydrangeas and roses. We also appreciated the forethought of necessary consumables at the cottage (paper towels, laundry/dishwashing detergent, bath soap and tissues, trash bags) which meant that we didn't have to search the stores for these.
We enjoyed seafood at Spanky's (twice!--once as takeout), the Black Cat (also on Ocean Ave.), walking to Dunkin' Donuts, the Brewster Museum of Natural History (hands-on activities for the grandchildren, an aquarium, a marsh walk to see the birds), and college baseball.
The beaches were clean and surprisingly uncrowded for perfect July weather. Best of all, Keyes Beach is just a 3-minute walk from the cottage and has restrooms, lifeguards, and a new boardwalk leading to Hyannisport.
Our only disappointment? We only booked one week. Our next visit will be longer--and soon!

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us at Norris Cottages. We hope our guests feel like family and can relax as soon as they arrive. Our quiet street provides respite from the daily rush, and proximity to local restaurants and shops, museums, and beaches. Ferries to the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket are 1/2 mile away at the Hyannis docks. Exploring the Cape can take time, so take some time and visit us. We hope to see you soon! Great location, comfortable cottage.

  • 5 of 5
I found a cottage on VRBO and contacted the owner, who directed me to other cottages they also rent nearby. I was able to choose the one that best suit my needs - a weekend getaway for 4 women to include beach time, dinner out and relaxation. The owners were incredibly nice and accommodating, very responsive, and it felt like we were staying at a relative's house! There is a great beach just a very easy 3-minute walk from the house, and the town of Hyannis would have been probably a 15 minute walk to the Main Street. There were lots of nice places to walk, quiet neighbors, and the cottage was comfortable for lounging and reading. The house has everything you would need including beach towels, chairs and umbrellas, cooking and dining needs, etc. Overall, this was a great homebase for our relaxing Cape weekend and I hope to go back!
