Escape year-round to this charming bungalow for a well-deserved break. Lovingly refurbished to reflect a marine sanctuary, it’s perfect for a family vacation or solitary retreat. Custom-built in the 1930’s by Brad Norris for his wife’s “summer business”, it sports hardwood floors throughout with fine woodwork accents.
Quaint and comfortable, you will find all the amenities of home with the simple things of life at your fingertips and footsteps. Pull into our oyster-shelled driveway, unpack, and take a walk up to the Hyannis Port Golf Club for the spectacular sunset over Squaw Island. Walk to Sea Street Market for sundries, groceries, newspapers, beer and specialty wines, along with tasty deli selections.
We are a 3-minute walk to serene Sea Street Beach, with Picnic Area, Bath House and Snack Bar. We’ve watched osprey dive for minnows there at low tide! The popular beaches: Veteran’s, Kalmus, (ideal winds for the best sail boarding in New England), and Craigville, are short hops away.
Main Street restaurants feature casual and fine dining with daily catches from local fishing vessels. Visit the Hyannis Harbor Docks to see fish and lobsters being off-loaded, while you shop at the local artisan kiosks. Popular restaurants dot Ocean Street and offer a view of Hyannis Harbor.
Nightlife abounds and cinemas feature box office greats. Enjoy summer theater performances at The Cape Playhouse and unique foreign films shown at The Cape Cod Art Museum. Farm-fresh food is available through “Edible Cape Cod” farm members and Farmer’s Markets. Agri-Tourism farms bring back times past with “Pick Your Own” options, tours, hikes, hayrides and workshops. The local wineries host tastings to showcase specialty wines.
Treat yourself to a quiet home base from which to explore the whole Cape, including the Massachusetts Cultural Coast. Be really “Green”, bring your bikes and ride the bike trails for miles through The Cape Cod National Seashore and beyond. 'Cape Cod Rails to Trails' will give you a great workout with views of cranberry bogs, marshes, and ocean panoramas. Go fishing for trout, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel and bluegill at one of the 365 kettle hole ponds, or surf cast off Dennis Beach.
Private and public golf courses are minutes away and across town, historic Route 6A will pique your architectural and antique sweet tooth. We are 45 minutes from historical Provincetown, where you can experience the sand dunes, sunset horseback rides, and shop for unique art and entertainment.
Whether this is your summer vacation or a spur of the moment getaway during the winter, leave your cares at home. Come read, write a book, finish a project, sketch, or photograph the beauty of the ocean and its environs. Off-season, short stays for weddings, conferences, and business are also available. As a chef, I enjoy local seafood and teach at a local university. My husband puts his software engineer expertise to work anywhere we go. Staying at the Cape gives us a mini-vacation whenever we spend time here. Our favorite walks and sunsets are right around the corner. We have the most fun going shellfishing and sharing nature's bounty with family and friends. The peace and quiet are refreshing and give us a great perspective on what is really important; nature, family, great food and meeting our guests!
The Owner purchased this house in 2007
Our smaller cottage next door was my home for years. As our family grew, we needed more room for our grandchildren and friends. Hence, we were lucky enough to purchase the bungalow which has been a favorite family reunion spot.
We enjoy the peace and quiet, long walks and easy access to activities like fishing, island visits to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket and Provincetown. Our outdoor shower is so refreshing and convenient, we use it far into the fall season as well. Our winter sojourns here are as comfortable and relaxed as summer, so we hope you consider coming during off-season as well for a well-deserved break or to enjoy the holidays.
The Norris cottage was perfect for our stay on Cape Cod! We liked Hyannis and the location so close to Seas Street Beach and away form the hubbub of Main Street In 3 ½ days here, we went boogie boarding at Coast Guard Beach, whale watching at P-town, ( we saw 8 individ8ual whales and 20 dolphins), and bicycling to Woods Hole. We also got to see our friend Kami Lyle play music at The Black Cat. The cottage had everything we needed. We loved the outdoor shower! Thanks for being our host, Elaine!
So great you will have a hard time to leave...
...and this is the only drawback we've found ;-)
We unfortunately did not have a chance to meet Elaine and John but from first contact for information query to our phone contact after leave, everything was just great.
All information given before hand made our arrival easy (although we arrived late at night). The house was perfectly / spotless clean, very cosy and fully ready. We just had to slip ourselves under the covers !
The equipment is perfect. Anything you could dream of in a house is there. Name it and you have it !
Weather was not warm enough this late April to use the outdoor terrace and the grill, nor to enjoy the beach that is just a stone throw away. No need to use you car in any case to get to the beach. It is just a short walk. In 10 minutes walk you are at Hyannis Harbour.
In any case you do need a car to stock up the fridge - that's for sure - but you can leave your car in the spacious driveway after that. There are large supermarkets and a more than decent shopping mall (with high end stores) + a "whole foods" store (we love this chain) only 5 minutes away.
We knew about Cape Cod although our last visit was 20 years ago. We came back from France to show the place to our kids and they really loved it (after New York, quite a contrast for them).
This house is really the place you want to be when you want to discover Cape Cod.
Do I recommend the place : Oh yes ! But be very careful, you may want to return very often !!!!
Thanks Elaine and John

Sorry this is so late but I needed to write and say how much we enjoyed our 1st visit out this way. Everything was just wonderful. We were able to do everything we had planned for and then some. Enjoyed catching the ferries, the concerts at the Blue Melody tent, tasting all the clam chowders. And of course the cottage was just perfect, my daughter fell in love with the outdoor shower, we were so sorry we missed meeting Elaine, she came by to do a little yard work. We would definitely stay here again. Loved, loved, loved it!!!!
Our fall trip to Cape Cod and Boston was planned hastily in mid-September thus being too late to take advantage of our time share ownership. So we elected to search out VRBOs and fortunately for us we came upon the Norris cottage. We enjoyed our stay in the area very much and plan to return in the future. The cottage was ideal, just as pictured, close proximity to the beach and to the downtown area. It lived up to our expectations having selected the property based on the very thorough description and photos available. It is well equipped with amenities and was very clean and well maintained. While the cottage could easily accommodate 6 people we found it just right for the two of us. It's a good location for excursions to Provincetown, to Martha's Vineyard (ferry dock is about 10 minutes drive away) and even a day trip into Boston is doable. It's a great vacation spot and being able to stay at the cottage made our trip so much more enjoyable. Would do it again.
We decided to visit Cape Cod for our vacation this year and are thankful that we did. This accommodation offered us the comfort of a home with all of the necessary amenities. It was clean, conveniently located, and just breathtaking. The beach was just a few steps away and this feature was well worth the buck! Spankys and the Black Cat restaurants are a must and the bike trails are great. I would recommend this place to others with no reservation and would definitely be back for another vacation for sure.
Norris Cottage was perfect in every way. Clean, cozy property with everything you need provided including beach chairs and a cooler. Quiet neighborhood with roomy living room, large kitchen and eating area. Walking distance to the beach that felt like your private beach. Close to Kennedy and Vietnam Memorials and ferries to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Excellent communication with owners. This is a top notch property you should consider staying at.
The cottage had everything we needed and was centrally located on a pretty street. We found it to be a wonderful place to relax after exploring all the varied and wonderful things there were to do on Cape Cod. We could easily walk or bike from the cottage to Main street or port area (restaurants, shops, art, ferries) . We enjoyed Sea St beach which we could easily walk to-- it is quiet, wading beach and offered great views of distant boats and ferries. I would love to return next year!
