Built in 1924, this beautiful home sits at west end of 62 home sites located within 975 acre private township. Sandstone cliffs line the west end, offering unique cove beaches and incredible sunset views. 300 yards to the east begin over 1 mile of private beach. You'll enjoy lake views from five bedrooms (3 with screened balconies) and every room downstairs. Stepping outside, nearly an acre of grassy lawn and towering oak trees add to 200 feet of private lakefront splendor.
Stroll only 100 feet west of the yard and you'll be standing on Thumbnail point, offering perhaps the most incredible sunset views on Lake Huron. Immediately behind you, gentle waves will lap landmark Turnip rock as you take in the magic of a Michigan spring/summer/fall.
Established in 1896 and once the [summer] home to many 20th century industrialists, Pointe Aux Barques community retains courtesy, friendliness, and respect toward others common to that era. While in our home, you'll have access to our modest, private (no fee) golf course, tennis courts, miles of walking and biking trails, kid play structure, and golf cart rentals. Dress codes required for golf and tennis. NO WEDDINGS or large reunions.
A wonderful old house with an absolutely magnificent view of lake Huron. Very comfortable, well provisioned, good wifi but cell service is pretty weak (not the fault of the house). Unlimited golf, helpful owners, I would recommend. Try the Lighthouse Grill in Port Austin, a real dump but really good food especially the fried perch.
Our week stay was wonderful! We had plenty of room for the whole family. The adults spent everyday at the golf course (sometimes 3 x's a day). We rented a golf cart from Della for 4 days and we never had to get in our car. We hiked, biked, walked, relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. Everything we wanted and needed to do was right there on the resort. We cooked & grilled at the house everyday and the kitchen had plenty of space for all of our groceries and prep room. The grandkids enjoyed the beach, the play ground area and all the amenities (canoe, beach chairs, grill, 2 big refrig, fully stocked kitchen, the list could go on) that the house had for us. The weather was great too. We did have a few warm days but for most of the time it was nice. The breeze from the lake was great and the view from the house is spectaculiar - the Thumb Nail point and Turnip Rock were right outside out back door. Everyone at the resort was very friendly and helpful. We truly enjoyed our stay Scott stayed in contact with us to make sure all was going well.
Warm memories forever! This cottage makes you feel right at home. There is plenty of room and the layout is perfect. It is charming. We will never forget our stay and we hope to go back again and again! The grounds are wonderful for walking and the (private) beaches are close. The views are spectacular! The kitchen is stocked with everything you could possibly need. We had a full house for a couple of days during our week and were not the least bit cramped. Two short miles into the quaint town of Port Austin. The owners made us feel like family. All bedrooms are upstairs.
From any room in this spacious resort cottage you can view the quiet vista of Lake Huron. You are up on a gorgeous bluff with lovely sunsets and sunrises, yet many private sandy beaches are just a few minutes walk. The cottage itself is like no other vacation rental experience. Much has been preserved to give you the feeling of walking back in time, yet the owner has provided a very well done contemporary large kitchen!! The water quality was excellent! (Port Austin area boasts one of the best public water supplies in the state of MI.)
A golf cart rental was available for our entire stay. Once we arrived, we really didn't need to leave this resort property or 'start our car'!! What a gift when you are on vacation. Our experience was all we expected and more!
The golf is Wonderful!! No waiting on the course - just show up and golf any time on the oldest course in Michigan. The property's pristine Michigan woods await your investigation. We are going back next year for a more extended stay!! It was love at first sight!
The cottage is everything described and more. We stayed there for four nights and only regret that we didn't find a way to book it for a week. Everyone loved the house, the golf and the bike trails. It's absolutely beautiful and we hope to go back there again. We would recommend this place to anyone, it's absolutely beautiful.
We very much enjoyed our vacation at the "thumbnail" of Michigan. Its one of the most picturesque places I've stayed in. The beaches are so nice and the house is huge and beautiful. The kitchen is big- perfect for cooking for a large family like ours. Plenty of exploring for kids. Golf and tennis for all. I highly recomend it!
