GORGEOUS LOIRE MANOR IN THE VERY HEART OF CHATEAUX COUNTRY.

Francueil Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2)

Try and imagine the perfect holiday paradise for two with no other "hidden" cottages/apartments to share the pool and garden ... well, this is it!

Les Petites Ouldes, offers you part of a wing of a wonderful manor, set in the heart of châteaux country (less than 2 km away from its crowning jewel, Chenonceaux) where you can relax to your hearts' content.

Valerie will welcome you warmly on your arrival and leaves you a light supper with wine as well as your first French breakfast basics. After that, all you need to do is relax and enjoy the many delights in this part of the world: châteaux, restaurants, wonderful open markets and bakeries, delightful villages and churches, wine tasting, golf or whatever grabs you! Or you may just wish to stay put on your own private terrace or by the pool to read, paint or lounge in the secluded 5 acre garden. Impressive towns such as Tours, Angers, Sancerre and Poitiers are all within a couple of hours' drive.

At certain times of the year there are fabulous music festivals, also ... shopping is always good, in elegant and bustling Tours - only 40 minutes away.

Valerie lives in the main part of the house and is only too happy to give advice and help, but will never invade your privacy. In the eight years of renting, many couples have returned year in and year out and are now good friends, the Visitors' book bears witness to this.

If you wish, and if the season is right - you can buy organic vegetables from Valerie's garden, she will also be happy to cook a meal that you may eat with her, as 'table d'hôte' or in the intimacy of your own accommodation. She also gives inspiring cooking lessons and will prepare dishes from fresh produce for you if you don't feel like cooking.

Now there are heating panels in each room for off season renting. Come in April or October, sightsee without the crowds and curl up after dinner with one of the many good videos available.

Booking is by weekly periods, Wednesday to Wednesday, and is for two people only. You can reach Les Petites Ouldes by car, train and car hire and Ryan Air flies from Stansted UK to Tours where you can hire a car.

Regrettably, pets, children and smokers are not admitted.

We have spent a peaceful week here at Les Petites Ouldes - the house that cuddles. Thank you for a fine meal on Sunday - it was so good of you to let us include our friends. Thank you also for the take aways - especially the mother of all vinegars! Lewis and Elizabeth

La vie de château en France

  • 5 of 5
Less than 2 miles from Chenonceaux, hidden in a 4 acre "parc à la française", an elegant mansion with 2 wings in one of which is the very comfortable apartment for guests. There is a spacious kitchen/dining room with a silent fridge serving as a living room with its French windows leading outside. The salon has books, films and doors that open onto the private terrace. Thick walls all round make for complete silence in the bedroom and a large bathroom completes the picture.
Valerie welcomes you generously with good food in the fridge, wine from the property, olive oil produced by her son in Italy, fresh flowers and a baguette (the best bread in the area).
I was there for a week in February/March and the swimming pool was covered. It summer it must be paradise to relax and swim in such seclusion, at one with Nature.
There is a beautiful view of the park from the house where you can enjoy the old trees forming a glorious skyline - my favourite. I will be returning soon.

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5
We spent 2 weeks with Mrs. Faccini from end of May to beginning of June. It was a wonderful place. Spotlessly clean. We had a warm welcome from Ms. Valerie. She had prepared a lovely meal for us and explained all that was necessary for our comfort. When we encountered some serious difficulties with our car she immediately jumped in to help us out with excellent results. She contacted her garage and made the necessary arrangements. All was well within a very short time.
Valerie was available whenever we needed her with advice and suggestions. We cannot understand how anyone could give her and her accomodations a review as scathing as the one from August 2012. We would highly recommend this property.
Again we had a terrific time and all was well!!!!! Liesa, Nick and friends

Hoping to return in summer!

  • 4 of 5
Located within walking distance of the beautiful Chenonceau Chateau is Les Ouldes. On our arrival, the gracious host, Valerie, provided us with a tasty light dinner with wine from her vineyard and a quiche with home grown vegetables, an excellent help for newly arrived, weary travelers. She is friendly, helpful and knowledgable. We especially appreciated advice on how to take the short train ride into Tours rather than deal with trying to drive and park there, since the streets there are completely torn up while the city installs a light rail near the train station. Her well groomed property is just stunning as you drive in through the vineyard. There's a pool and flowers to see from the French doors of the apartment, which was extremely clean and inviting. It has a very large bathroom, with no lack of hot water, an efficiency kitchen, a sitting room, a roomy bedroom, a large entry area (and lots of informational pamphlets), and wireless Internet access (very important). Our rental car was more than safe parked here. Since we visited during a rainy mid-October, we hope to stay again in the summer when we can enjoy the pool, the verdant patio, and the warm air and ambiance of rural France.

Explore the Loire Valley from Franceuil

  • 5 of 5
We explored the Loire Valley for the month of June 2012, using Les Petites Ouldes as our home base. It was a great choice for it had all that we needed. Travel to the many chateaux, towns and villages with their weekly markets, avoiding the motorways was simplicity itself. The accommodation was what we expected and hoped for, inviting, relaxed and comfortable. The extensive grounds with its own small vineyard add to the mystique of the Loire. All the rooms, including the bathroom were large, the kitchen was well equipped. It was nice to feel that we were arriving home, after a long day of touring. Sitting outside on the private patio smelling the honeysuckle with a glass of wine topped off our days.
Our hostess Valerie ensured that our stay was just right starting with a light evening meal, including wine and flowers, upon our arrival. Her helpful suggestions throughout our stay, aided us in our planning to explore this lovely area of France. A delightful multi course meal cooked by Valerie, toward the end of our stay added to our pleasure. What a holiday, just perfect.

Home sweet home

  • 5 of 5
From the moment we arrived at Les Petites Ouldes, my partner and I commented to each other that it was like staying with a favorite Aunt and returning to someplace familiar. We have travelled the world extensively even though we are still only in our 40's, from Europe to the carribean, Canada to Hawaii, Mexico too, and have lived all over the states staying in everything from 5 star hotels to camping tents in the carribean and consider ourselves discriminating but also flexible travelers. The gite, at almost 730 square feet ( I measured...ok I was just curious) was so large, it was like having our own apartment. The very tall 12 foot ceilings and many windows gave such a sense of space and light, the kitchen was appointed with everything one needs to make a nice simple dinner or breakfast (and we cook alot at home). Ratatouille, Valerie's dog, was the sweetest most affectionate thing and a welcome distraction from missing our own pups back in the states. The extra effort Valerie put in with robes in the bath, things to eat including a freshyly made quiche, soup, coffee, cookies, fruit and other things kept us nibbling for days, and the fresh flowers were such an appreciated touch, pepperred around the apartment in small ceramin vases. As for convenience, we found everything we wanted within just s short drive, grocers, brasseries, and gas stations, and it was no trouble getting back to Tours to see some of the castles there. We visited about 8 castles in the region and there were many others we would have gone to had we been there longer. We stayed 6 days and I was wonderful, peaceful, comfortable and quiet. The stone walls of the gite keep it a constant temperature and even though it got quite cold, the heating wall units in every room quickly took out the chilll and we turned them off and kept them off most of the time. The king bed was very comfortable and Val has a wonderful collection of books and movies to watch when you are not walking around the grounds or swimming in the pool. (the pool was actually closed when we were there but in the summer i would imagine we would have been in it daily). We never heard a sound from the main house due to the large wash room which separates the gite from the main home where valerie lives and so we did not have to worry about being too loud. The washer was a plus too as we like to travel light. Can't think of anyting else to say but that we would definitely stay here again...a great bargain and a pleasure!

An expensive mistake

  • 1 of 5
We are seasoned travellers, who have stayed in many holiday rental properties in many countries.
Our immediate reaction on arrival at Les Petit Ouldes, was that we wanted to leave, the place lacked, comfort, quality & convenience, however, we decided to give it a try. On our way to Francueil we had stayed in a couple of budget hotels, which were far more comfortable.
Throughout the Gite we could not find a bit of comfort ,& nowhere to sit comfortably, we even went out & bought 2 plastic chairs . The lounge area was depressing & very shabby & we could not use it.
The kitchen was a makeshift & facilities were very poor, nowhere to prepare a meal, nowhere to keep food . In fact trying to make a meal was just hard work. We would have been more comfortable in our own garage. We had a constant concern of rodents, so we had to go out & buy some large plastic boxes to protect our food.
The bathroom was fraught with problems, the shower was over the bath & the sides were far too high with nothing to hold onto to stop you from falling.
The sun terrace was another joke, a shabby uninviting area sheltered from the sun.
We were expected to put our clothes in a dingy, dark & dirty wardrobe which wasn't even in the bedroom.
The joke of a tiny, elderly washing machine was more suited to a dolls house, located in a building resembling a disused garbage disposal site, it was appalling.
The pool was a big attraction for us, however it remained covered throughout our stay, with only a begrudged offer of " do you think you might use the pool"
While we were there we did not even get to see the water.
.
Although we had paid in full for a 2 week stay we left after 3 nights, as the holiday was ruined & we would rather go home, which is what we did. We have been offered no refund by way of compensation.
The owner of the house had been helpful in making a doctors appointment for us & wrote a letter to explain the problem, which helped immensely & we were very grateful to her for that.
We had booked this holiday on the strength of the 5* reviews & we just cannot understand how anyone could rate this as 5*. This is a matter of standards & this accommodation failed miserably to meet any of ours .

Owner's Response: I have run my gîte for over a decade and have only had rave reviews, with enthusiastic guests often becoming friends returning summer after summer (nearly 40% returnees this year). I was particularly shocked and saddened by what appears to be a deliberately mischievous review written by people who seem intent on finding fault. I operate my gîte in a spirit of openness and dialogue: I welcome all suggestions/requests. This couple left abruptly for England in my absence, preferring not to discuss their concern - there had been full opportunity for this. With hindsight, it seems unlikely they studied the photos on VRBO and my website showing all the rooms clearly. Nor did they feel able to discuss any potential requirements as to the suitability of my apartment for them (separate shower, extra chairs/cushions for back problems). Shame, I could have offered the use of a wet room in the house. The gîte kitchen pretends no luxury (no dishwasher) but is well equipped; guests are welcome to move things around to suit. The bath is of standard dimensions (I noted the lack of grab rail - remedied this week). The wardrobe is on the entrance wall to the bedroom (see photos) – totally accessible. The little washing machine in the stable functions well; my own is available for larger loads (stated in my booklet). Because of fierce sun the day these guests arrived, salon window and door shutters were shut. To my knowledge these were never opened during their stay; judging the terrace and salon so harshly seems odd. I would add that the majority of guests find my apartment exceptionally clean compared with most and that the addition of fresh flowers and a meal awaiting is a precious adjunct to their stay The wife arrived with an acute infection needing medical attention (I made the doctor’s appointment forthwith); swimming was obviously inadvisable. During the rest of their stay no interest in swimming/opening the pool was ever voiced. My booklet explains that the law requires the cover to be in place when not in use and a demonstration is indispensable. The suggestion that food needs to be protected from rodents is laughable. I pride myself on keeping everything spotless. I love my house and garden and enjoy sharing it with guests – they can eat vegetables from the garden and drink wine from the vineyard; my reward is seeing them find space to breathe and relax. I look forward to welcoming many more of you in the years to come.
