Photos and Description of the Roxbury vacation cabin rental 1,200 sq.ft. converted barn, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, and sleeps four to six people

Our recently built, 2 level barn house sits on 11 wooded acres on the secluded Vega Mountain, and is affectionately referred to as 'Dragonfly Farm'. There is a clear, stream-fed swimming pond with dock and lounge chairs right next to the house, as well as several walking trails through our woods that lead to a stream at the bottom of our property. Our barn house is a unique and charming space, with a nice open feel. It features a wood burning stove, country kitchen, large rustic dining table, and new bathroom. As well as separate upstairs and downstairs living room areas, each with flat screen DirecTV, DVD, and cozy all leather seating. Upstairs, the 500 sq.ft. bedroom suite also offers lovely views of the pond and has an internet ready iMac, making it a great, self-contained relaxation spot.

Located in the heart of the Catskill Mountains, there are plenty of outdoor activities available in our area, from horseback riding and fishing, to inner tubing and golf. We keep a selection of magazines and brochures at the house as guides for our guests. There is a also a wonderful farmers' market on Saturday mornings where you can buy locally grown produce, baked goods and preserves. There are numerous antique stores in neighboring towns, as well as restaurants, coffee shops and bars. Again, we provide guides to these too. But you don't have to leave our property to have an enjoyable time. You can relax in the Adirondack chairs on our dock, take a dip in our clear, stream-fed swimming pond (rafts, blow up boats, etc. are provided), or explore the trails that snake through our 11 acres of land. Our gas grill and outdoor table and chairs enable you to cook and dine outside too, if you choose.

Further details for this vacation cabin rental in Roxbury, New York

Walking Trails and Swimming Pond: Behind the house you'll find several wooded acres with walking trails leading to a stream at the end of the property. There is also a small stream close to the house that feeds into the property's swimming pond. Two quaint little foot bridges enable an easy walk around the pond as well.

Fishing: The best fishing in our area is on the East Branch of the Delaware River which runs through to the area, and is stocked with fish in the Spring. There are plenty of public areas to fish along the river's banks, particularly in the town of Margaretville, which is the next town over from ours. To fish here you need a special reservoir permit in addition to a regular fishing license. This can be obtained on the spot in Margaretville or can be printed out on your computer. With this permit you're also able to fish in the mighty Pepacton Reservoir, which is further afield but stunningly beautiful and is said to have enormous fish!

Pets: Well behaved dogs are warmly welcomed and our 11 acre property provides plenty of land for them to safely roam and run on. They will especially enjoy the swimming pond during the warmer months! There is no extra rental fee for dogs, however there is an additional $50 refundable pet security deposit per dog. Cats are allowed only if the owner can guarantee that they will not scratch on our leather furniture or rugs.

Perfection

allred NYC, United States
Review Submitted: August 13, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
I just returned from my week at Dragonfly Farm and can describe it in only one way--paradise. I couldn't imagine a more perfect place to spend a relaxing retreat. Not only does Dragonfly Farm bring you this close to the natural beauty of the Catskill Mountains, but the converted barn which I called home during my stay couldn't have been any more cozy, clean, and full of all amenities one could imagine. The place was immaculate.
In addition, Dragonfly's owner, Justine, was more than helpful: her correspondence was quick, her directions extremely detailed, and her hospitality ever-present even though I never personally met her. She always implored contact if I had any questions or concerns, but, this was never an issue since Dragonfly was as close to perfect as one can get.
I will definitely rent from Justine again, and will recommend this property to all my friends and family.

Perfect! Look no further!

Ralph D. Long Island, NY
Review Submitted: April 22, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
I was looking for a place in the country where my family and I could be alone with each other for a few days, with room to roam, without going too far, and at a good price. Yes, such a place exists!
'Dragonfly Farm' had it all: a quaint, private country environment, but with all the creature comforts you're used to.
Our enjoyment started before we got there, driving through the scenic Catskill Mountains through wooded areas and small towns. Upon arrival you make your way down a few hundred feet of winding gravel driveway to the 'Lincoln log' cabin. There is a nice unfinished (but clean) area that you first walk into, so you can take off wet or muddy shoes without tracking it all in. You walk through a nice, big, thick wood door, and you feel right at home. The downstairs area has a living room/dining room area that was cozy, but plenty big for my large family to have family dinners. The couch was super comfortable, and there's a great wood burning stove that's easy to use, and is addictive. I was asleep in front of it in no time! The kitchen was off to the side, and had everything you need - washer, microwave, stove, dishes, even a colander - it's all there. Upstairs was an open bedroom loft area that has a double bed plus a pull out sofa bed, a TV with satelite reception, and a computer. Even with all of that it still seems roomy, and there was plenty of room for us to set up a playpen for my 2 year old. I had 5 children all sleeping up there and they loved it. It was like a sleepover with their siblings.
The cabin has beautiful wood finish all around, central heating that works great, and the place was spotless!
The property is simply breathtaking. Mountain views from every direction, and no one else near you. We all had a great time sitting around the pond, skipping stones and getting our feet wet. There's a beautiful little clean stream flowing down the mountian that feeds the pond. It's small and very tame - perfect if you have little ones. There are also nice walking trails through the property and lots of beautiful trees and great old stone walls.
What really impressed me was the attentiveness of the owners. Nothing in the house was undone - they thought of everything! Dealing with Justine was a pleasure. Correspondence was great! She got back to me quickly every time and didn't act like she was doing me a favor - she was actually nice!
I can't say enough good things about the place! Highly recommended!

Fantastic, secluded winter vacation spot

RainFromNYC NY, NY
Review Submitted: February 2, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
This is a hidden gem of a place I feel lucky to have found!

My goal was to spend a weekend with friends, cooking and relaxing in a secluded spot where we could set our small dogs loose in the snow, without worrying about them getting hit by cars or attacked by wild animals.

Using this website, I narrowed it down to five locations; Justine, the proprietor of Dragonfly Farm, was the first to get back to me. She was friendly, extremely responsive by both phone and e-mail, and helpfully answered all of my questions, unlike some of the other places I had contact with. Booking a reservation was simple and straightforward.

The cabin itself is beautiful! It was spotlessly clean, well-appointed, and that rare, perfect blend of rustic and modern. Downstairs is a bedroom, a living room with a woodburning stove, a kitchen, and dining table. Upstairs is a large, airy loft comprised of a bed set and living room set-up (both living rooms had plush, leather couch and armchair sets). The beds are comfortable and there are plenty of extra blankets for couch lounging. Anywhere you settle in this house is immediately comfortable. There are also TVs and DVD players on both floors with Direct TV.

There's no cell service at the house, but frankly I consider that a plus! There's a landline in case of emergency.

The house's heating system is thorough, with no cold spots. The upstairs can get warm, but if you turn the ceiling fan on and open the windows, problem solved. The shower had plenty of hot water as well.

Justine had warned us that the local grocery was temporarily closed for renovations, so we were sure to bring up enough food; everything else you might need was amply stocked--paper towels, toilet paper, bath towels for all six of us, garbage bags, matches, candles, and plenty of firewood. There were even extra ice trays, which is nice when you're going through cocktails. We had the woodburning stove going constantly and still had plenty of wood left over by trip's end.

The air is a bit on the dry side, though I imagine that's the region and not some flaw with the house. In retrospect I would have liked to have a humidifier.

I can't speak on the local attractions, because as I said before the goal was to stay in, cook, lounge, and relax. None of us wanted to leave the cabin--especially the dogs, who loved playing in the deep snow--and the worst part of the trip was having to leave!
Owner's Response: Thanks for this wonderful review of our rental home, I'm so happy that you, your friends, and your dogs had such a nice time. We feel the same regret when it comes time to leave!

I would just like to clarify a few points that you mention. Maybe you weren't aware of this but our telephone is not just for emergency use. It has unlimited local, regional and national coverage and comes free of charge. Secondly, just to reassure future renters, our (new & improved) local supermarket has reopened so renters do not have to bring food supplies with them anymore.

Also, going forward into the summer months we'll be installing an A/C unit in the upstairs bedroom suite, as it does tend to get hot up there.

Thanks once more and we look forward to having you stay with us again in the future.

All the best,

Justine, owner
