This is our 3rd year of summer beach vacation in Chincoteague, and 2nd year of staying at Island Bliss. From our experience, we will ALWAYS stay at Island Bliss. Great location, great house with lots of room, great pool. It's always a pleasure to deal with the owner. We had 4 adults and 4 children (ages 5, 7, 9, and 17)....with plenty of room to spare :)
My husband and I rented the Island Bliss in June 2014. The pictures on here don't do it justice. Affordable, clean, well appointed rental with plenty of book reading areas - on the front porch, living room, the sun room, the back deck next to the pool. The pool was a popular hang out for us. The house is sizeable, we didn't even need to use the upstairs. Couple tips - bring an HDMI cord to hook your laptop up to the tv to watch Netflix. We brought our own kayaks - if you paddle the opposite direction of the lighthouse, you'll see the ponies. Tip: the mosquitos in the hiking areas on Assateague are --immune-- to bug spray. The beach there is quite nice though. Bathroom facilities, close parking and the bugs are not a bother by the ocean. Daisy Cruises offers luxury pontoon boat tours to see the dolphins and ponies and we took the Fish Tales 2-hour fishing trip and caught a shark! Island Creamery has some to die for ice cream. And downtown, there is a ton of art shopping available. We had plenty of relaxation time and activities to do on the island. The house made for a perfect basecamp.
My family and I just finished our stay at Island Bliss and I t was a great time. The kids had a blast from the beach to the sights of wild island ponies to catching crabs along the cannals. The home was clean and had everything needed to feel like home away from home. The pool was great after the beach or before the beach trips. The house is located in a wonderful location near town shops n a very short drive to the beach .The bikes that were provided were a great way to travel around the island and see all the shops or a trip to local grocery store just blocks away.We had great weather and a great stay at Island Bliss .I would recommend it to my friends and look forward to future trips back to Chincoteague Island.
We stayed at Island Bliss the week after the famous 2013 pony run. It seemed a little "far away" from downtown, etc. when we first got there, but quickly realized that it was a nice, fun walk to the downtown area for shopping, eating, and just roaming around. Also easy to drive to the beach on "back roads" so you don't have to fight Maddox road and the lights every day! The house was plenty big for 4 adults and 4 children. The pool was quite a delight for the kids after a day at the beach...definitely used! And the sun room was enjoyable as well (especially if the adults wanted to find a "quiet room" in the house for a bit. The shed out back was packed with pool fun toys/boogie boards/floaties, and lots of bikes. We really enjoyed our stay and would not hestitate to rent this house again. The owner answered all my questions emails in a timely manner and was/is very polite.
Things to consider: There were little ants in the kitchen area from time to time, but nothing too bothersome that we felt we had to leave/complain (just made sure all food was put away and not laying around on counters). There was a note near the sink alerting us of the problem when we first arrived, so we knew to be on the lookout from the get-go. The appliances are a bit outdated...but work and are useable. These things I find typical in rental units, so none of the quirks really bothered us.
Our family of 10 (2 older parents, 2 grown children and their spouses, and 4 young children) fit beautifully in the generous 3 bedrooms of Island Bliss. Each room was lovely, clean and well-appointed. The kitchen had all that was needed to cook and enjoy meals at home. The house is also only minutes from the downtown business district, the fun restaurants and shops. Having the pool in the back yard was such a blessing. We used it every day. Next summer we hope to come back and stay at Island Bliss again and would highly recommend it to anyone who loves Chincoteague.
Our family of nine (six adults and three kids) spent a fabulous week in Chincoteague in August. Island Bliss was perfect for us. It is such a comfortable house and lends itself to relaxation.
There was plenty of space for everyone, and even with nine people we never felt crowded at all. The open floorplan made it very easy to cook, hang out, and keep an eye on the kids. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need and the outdoor grill is a nice option. We also liked having two TVs, one with DVD, so the kids could watch their movies in the sunroom while the adults chilled out with a glass of wine in the living room.
The kids loved the pool, it's fairly shallow so they could stand everywhere; perfect for our 6 and 7 yr olds. Since the beach is a ten-minute drive away in Assateague, it was really nice to have the pool so the kids could blow off some steam and play outside.
We all enjoyed using the bikes that are available to renters -- it's the best way to get around the island and a really nice perk for guests. The house's location is also great; it's close to everything but very quiet.
Island Bliss is a great house, and we have already recommended it to others. We wouldn't hesitate to rent it again for another wonderful Chincoteague vacation.
