The house was fantastic. Two bigscreens and sat, dvd player, CD, fully functional kitchen with all utensils, great BBQ grill, 2 comfortable bedrooms, 2 baths, fenced in yard. For our 5 member family that includes our dog, it was the perfect place. We rarely left it, slept late and made brunc. Then we’d go out on the boat and come back hours later and grill up dinner. Repeat for most days.
Definitely bring a boat or rent a pontoon from Maynard at Straight Creek Dock. The lake is HUGE so the faster the boat, the better. And also buy a water-proof map. Lots of waterskiing and wakerunning going on but not too much in front of the house. That is very peaceful. We swam across it and back.
When on the lake, check out Bubba’s at the dock by the bridge. They let you bring the dog onto the back patio and provide a bucket of water. Also try the rope swing in the cove just a little farther down. The other direction is also very scenic. If you want to fish, check out the locations of the “fish attractors” on the map.
Shop for food in town at Ingles. There is also a Walmart right next to it. We ate at El Mariachi and everything was very good. Frosty Freeze is a great drive-in for frozen custard desserts. We also ate at Pete’s Place in Maynardville but we were looking for Pete’s Place at the Hickory Star Marina. The food was not that great but the service was good. It left me wondering how the other place was so now I have something to do when we come back!
