Betsy Fields purchased this house in 2006
I designed and built this house. It was a dream, an epic adventure, now a reality.
It is a peaceful and magical retreat.
Our family, five of us including a four year old and 2 grandparents, spent Christmas week here. An absolutely wonderful experience. Stephen, the caretaker, had cleared the driveway and shoveled all the walks, even to the sauna. The house was really well kept with everything we needed. There were snowshoes and several kinds of sleds. Lots of firewood was ready for both the house and sauna. We were able to walk into town and to a ski area located in town. Thank you it was great!
What a beautiful home to spend a week sightseeing in the Colorado Rockies. We particularly enjoyed sitting outside enjoying the views and the lovely gardens, while listening to the fast flowing stream. The house is very comfortable and the kitchen is designed for those who enjoying cooking. Overall, this was the perfect hideaway for a very relaxing vacation.
Truly an amazing place for peace, inspiration and adventure! The wonderfully crafted home rivals the outstanding views from every window. The rushing river that meanders through the property from the surrounding mountains just steps away from the home coupled with the snow capped mountains was a dream for us coming from flat lands. And the wonderful art and decor of the home with the owner's personal touches made us feel like we were truly living there and not just staying in someone's house. Also, the owner makes fabulous granola (From the Fields') and the groundskeeper was extremely helpful and nice. Everything was well maintained and clean. Our 6 year old son enjoyed exploring the property and roasting marshmallows... and playing in the "secret room" upstairs. The view from the master bath is unbeatable. If you do have children, there's the town park just at the foot of the property with a pleasant walk along the path next to the river to get there. Thank you for sharing your piece of heaven with us! We would definitely recommend this property to anyone interested in the area. Lots to do. If you can manage to want to leave the property, there's off roading through the mountains (jeep rental is a short walk away), the Silverton/Durango train, a gold mine tour, hot springs in the neighboring towns (Ouray or Ridgeway) or a nice stroll through the quaint town at the end of the property with plenty of little shops and places to eat.
Five friends and I rented this home for a long ski weekend at Silverton Mountain. You may have a short walk to get to town, but this house is extremely convenient for being in the town of Silverton, or skiing at Silverton Mountain and still feels secluded in the wilderness. It is a beautifully decorated home with fantastic pieces from Tibet and the Far East, its warm and inviting, and very spacious. The house is solar hot water heated and stays warm throughout. We had no problems with the TV as some have mentioned. With panoramic views of the mountains, a stream in the backyard, and a spacious sauna behind the house, we couldn't ask for a better mountain get away in Silverton.
My wife and I have traveled to Silverton more than a dozen times over the years, but always in the summer. This year, we decided to bring our daughter, her husband, and two grandchildren over the Christmas holiday.
We spent five nights in Betsy's beautiful home. Creativity and style resonate in every inch of this house. My grandkids loved their room and took turns sleeping in the "nook". They left saying how much they enjoyed their winter stay in Silverton and how much they loved your home. We created lifelong memories in your home and hope to stay again someday.
Betsy was awesome to work with and Karen her property manager was very helpful and made checking and departing a breeze. We highly recommend Betsy's home to anyone wanting a first class experience in Silverton.
This was our second year staying at this custom home and it was just as spectacular as we remembered. The gardens and unique interior are beyond description. They both transport you to another place. The fire pit out back is one of our grandsons favorite activities along with the location in regards to hiking. The steam showers and peace and quiet are always a favorite of the adults. Great family vacation spot for outdoor activities or just for a quiet get away.
Silverton is located in the heart of the lower San Juan Mt range. It is incredibly pristine and some what remote. I cannot think of a more beautiful place anywhere in the world and I have traveled extensively. There is everything that you might imagine in the area surrounding Silverton inclusive of historic and outdoor venues that would take years to explore. The historic Durango - Silverton train is a main draw in the summer and Silverton Mt. Ski area in the winter.
Other Activities: Mt climbing, hiking, birding, flowers, river running, kayaking
