Date of Stay: July 2009
Carlos was very easy to work with and everything was exactly as advertised. The little apartment is in the heart of historic Boston, with many of the interesting sites within an easy walking distance. We stayed with our 2 young boys and there was sufficient sleeping space for all of us; we also loved the fact that the North End playground (right on the waterfront) is just around the corner from the apartment. We visited for 5 days in July and our boys played there with the local kids every evening - everyone was great. Small groceries, bakeries and restaurants are all right in the area, and there is a 7/11 around the corner for your convenience.
The apartment was clean, updated, and functional. However, the space is small so don't expect to do much more in the unit than rest, eat, and sleep, which for us was exactly what we needed since we spent most of the daylight hours exploring Boston.
The 2 things that a visitor should be aware of is that the unit is on the 4th floor, there isn't an elevator in this building, and the steps are pretty steep, so if climbing stairs or carrying luggage up stairs is an issue, this would be a problem. The other is that it's harder to find parking in the North End than in Manhattan (you also need a resident permit in most places), and it's almost as expensive as Manhattan in the few small private lots; so if you're driving here, beware. In our case, we took a quick cab ride from the airport and had Enterprise pick us up when we needed a car to drive south after our visit. The rest of the time we were on foot and using the T while visiting (and we don't mind climbing stairs), so these weren't issues for us and wouldn't keep me from visiting again.
Bottom line: If you're fit enough to climb stairs and don't have a car with you, this place is an excellent choice to be right in the middle of history and have the comfort of home instead of just a hotel room.
Owner's Response: There are parking garages within 3-5 minutes of our condo. In fact, there are 18 parking garages and parking lots that literally encircle the North End and daily parking can be arranged starting as low as $25.
