This apartment is located just a short distance (10 minute walk) from Dam Square in the heart of Old Amsterdam. The square is the centre of Amsterdam and where the city takes its name. It was here the Amstel was dammed several hundred years ago. Today Dam Square is a popular meeting place with its lively atmosphere thanks to the numerous street performers, festivals, carnivals and other events. Dam square is also home to the stunning Royal Palace, one of the most majestic buildings in the city and well worth visiting. Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, The New Church and De Bijenkorf Department store can also be found on the square. Just a short stroll away is the Central Canal Belt, a UNESCO World Heritage protected site. It is easy to see why this part of Amsterdam is a World Heritage Site, with stunning canals and canal houses constructed during the Dutch Golden Age. It is possible to see how wealthy Dutch merchants of the time lived via the Museum Van Loon. For art lovers, Rembrandt House is within walking distance of the apartment and it is here the famous Dutch artist lived and worked for many years.
