Photos and Description of the Oaxaca vacation house rental
La Casita has 2 bedrooms with 1 full bath, and sleeps up to 5

Casa Raab is a 40 acre nature preserve in the foothills, just north of the city of Oaxaca. The landscape includes lush creeks, cornfields, agave plantations, mineral springs, an onyx mine... and wonderful views of the valley below. Although secluded and in a ranch-like village setting, it is just 20 minutes to the heart of Oaxaca.

A stay in La Casita at Casa Raab usually includes visits to traditional markets, ancient ruins, handicraft villages, art galleries, museums and the city of Oaxaca. From individual travelers to small families and groups, La Casita is a great little house that will serve you well.

.

What To Do?: Visit archaeological ruins, handicraft villages, world famous markets, museums, churches, Mezcal distilleries and the lively zocalo (town square). Go for long walks through the villages or in the foothills, take an eco-adventure or a short flight to Pacific beaches.

Day-Trip Tours & most other transportation services can be arranged with us. We use a 15 passenger air conditioned van. Tours include handicraft village shopping for black pottery, woven tapestries, embroidered cottons & carved wooden animals. Multi-day tours are available for the more adventurous.

How are the Services?: You will be served by our friendly staff. Culturally furnished, beautiful pool, laundry and maid service, optional great meals prepared in either American or authentic Oaxacan style, hiking and exploration on Casa Raab's 40 acres...... all within a wonderful village atmosphere. --- La Casita services: Housekeeping, Laundry, Swimming Pool Use. Transportation services are optional.

How About Fishing?: There is great rainbow trout fishing in a remote trout farm pond. Too easy perhaps, but when conditions are right you can land four pounders. Excellent for bringing home a cooler full for the barbecue. Casa Raab has all the gear.

There is also fly fishing for wild golden trout in a mountain river. Deep sea fishing can be arranged at the Pacific.

The three subtropical Oaxacan valleys have breathtaking natural beauty, ecological diversity and rich cultural history. Trips into the mountains will take you into world famous ecological zones.

Other Activities: golfing, petting zoo, animal rescue, mezcal tours, rock climbing, hiking, eco-touring

Golf: We have a nice 9 hole 'country club' within 20 minutes of Casa Raab. It has big locker rooms with steam baths, an Olympic size pool, and a small high-quality restaurant. Clubs and caddies are available. It costs about $50 us for 18 holes.

Winter in Oaxaca

5 of 5
Submitted: May 22, 2010 Stayed: February 2010
We had the great fortune to spend two months at Casa Raab's "La Casita" and it was everything we could have wanted. The house is wonderfully maintained and perfect for the two of us. The grounds are beautiful - full of flowers and flowering trees, making it perfect for bird watching. The patio and pool are gorgeous, and we had full use of them. We spent many hours lazing by the pool, just enjoying the fabulous weather and the incredible scenery. The house is situated on 40 acres, so there is wonderful privacy and lots of area for hiking. We still miss the sunsets from the hill!

The property is everything it is said to be and the hosts, Tony and Rebecca, are great. They were welcoming, helpful and very knowledgeable about the area. And most especially - they were fun! Casa Raab is perfectly situated for exploring Oaxaca City (a very impressive Spanish Colonial city) and the area around it, which includes many ruins and crafting villages. We had our own vehicle, but Tony is a wonderful guide, if needed.

We loved our time in La Casita and it truly felt like home. We will always treasure getting to know Tony and Rebecca. We look forward to returning.

Great nature and cultural getaway with small kids

5 of 5
Submitted: April 17, 2010 Stayed: April 2010
It was exactly what we were looking for - the casita is well layed out private space with all amenities on a large property. The kids (4 and 6) could roam and play with the (very friendly) animals.

There was a daily cleaning service if we wanted it and the rental came with a arrival day meal and a fully stocked fridge. We spent a fair amount of time leisuring at the pool at the main house, which we pretty much had the run of. The broadband connection / wifi was decent, allowing remote database & VPN access, which was hugely helpful as work sadly followed me on my vacation.

Views of the mountains and the valley below were impressive. The entire property consists of 40 acres running up into the foothills of the mountains behind, making for stunning hikes through native brush and algarve plantations (for mezcal). A strong rural /outdoors sense prevails despite fairly close proximity to the city.

We had rented a car and the road to and from the airport is fairly well described and of good quality. We made nearly daily runs downtown to take in the culture, markets and great buzz of Oaxaca city. There were a couple of trips further afield to Monte Alban, Tule, Teotitlan, Tlalucula and Danzu on the textile/mezcal route, all within easy reach.

Valued above all was the engaging nature of the owners - Tony & Rebecca were respectful of our space, yet willing to share a couple of social moments, broadening our understanding of the general environment and day-to-day happenings on Oaxaca. Especially appreciated was the tour of the Mezcal production site and the tale behind it all. Alas we missed out on a jam session by Tonys local band, the Bodega Boys. Next time!

Owner's Response: Families with kids fit in perfectly at Casa Raab, and these folks made the most of it. There are lots of wide open spaces around the houses for children to run and play, and of course the pool is great for the whole family.
