Great nature and cultural getaway with small kids

It was exactly what we were looking for - the casita is well layed out private space with all amenities on a large property. The kids (4 and 6) could roam and play with the (very friendly) animals.
There was a daily cleaning service if we wanted it and the rental came with a arrival day meal and a fully stocked fridge. We spent a fair amount of time leisuring at the pool at the main house, which we pretty much had the run of. The broadband connection / wifi was decent, allowing remote database & VPN access, which was hugely helpful as work sadly followed me on my vacation.
Views of the mountains and the valley below were impressive. The entire property consists of 40 acres running up into the foothills of the mountains behind, making for stunning hikes through native brush and algarve plantations (for mezcal). A strong rural /outdoors sense prevails despite fairly close proximity to the city.
We had rented a car and the road to and from the airport is fairly well described and of good quality. We made nearly daily runs downtown to take in the culture, markets and great buzz of Oaxaca city. There were a couple of trips further afield to Monte Alban, Tule, Teotitlan, Tlalucula and Danzu on the textile/mezcal route, all within easy reach.
Valued above all was the engaging nature of the owners - Tony & Rebecca were respectful of our space, yet willing to share a couple of social moments, broadening our understanding of the general environment and day-to-day happenings on Oaxaca. Especially appreciated was the tour of the Mezcal production site and the tale behind it all. Alas we missed out on a jam session by Tonys local band, the Bodega Boys. Next time!

Owner's Response: Families with kids fit in perfectly at Casa Raab, and these folks made the most of it. There are lots of wide open spaces around the houses for children to run and play, and of course the pool is great for the whole family.
