Big kudos to Valerie for providing an exceptional experience. She was wonderful to work with, prompt with email responses and phone calls, and very helpful with making sure I knew of the places to go and that I had all the contact information that I would need. Frank, Osvaldo, and Juan Carlos was wonderful as well.
The apartment has everything that you could ever need. Wireless internet? Check. Plugs that handle American computers and curling irons? Check. A full kitchen? Check. Comfy bed linens and bed? Check. Walking distance to pretty much anything you need? Check. Wonderful balcony with great view? Check. Quick cab ride to most areas of the city? Check. About a block or so away from the number 10 bus to take you to the further areas? Check.
If you are there on a Saturday, you are a short walk away from the Recoleta Fair that is in front of the Cemetary entrance. I loved this fair. I highly recommend the choripan food cart. You will get to see puppet shows, street performers, and many arts/crafts.
If you are there on a Sunday, take the number 10 bus to San Telmo for the antique fair. It's fabulous - street performers, great pubs, and unique antiques and crafts.
If you decide to go to the downtown shopping district, there is a perfect place to get lunch. I can't remember the name or the actual street address (food coma) but here's how you find it: Take a cab to Viamonte and Suipacha. Walk down Viamonte (follow the traffic) and on the right hand side, you will come upon a restaurant that has a brick fire pit. It's a small hole in the wall (maybe 10 tables) and definitely made for some of the best meals that I've had there. If you order the Baby Beef, you will watch the cook butcher the meal and grill it. I went back a couple of times. The owner spends all lunch hour taking phone orders from the locals.
The apartment is close to the banks. ATMs are plentiful. However, if you don't want to have the ATM charges, you can take cash into the bank and exchange funds. Most banks only exchange funds from 11 - 3 and they only exchange $100 increments and you need your passport.
Overall, this was a wonderful trip. The biggest part of this was due to the fact that once I booked with Valerie, I didn't have to worry about anything. The apartment was better than described and the people that she employs are very helpful and timely. I know that I'm spoiled for future bookings with homeaway.
