The DC Waterfront District:
Washington, DC Southwest Quadrant including DC's Waterfront district is actually composed of four separate sections:
The Southwest Employment District, the area between the National Mall and the Southeast/Southwest Freeway (Interstate 395) that contains the Smithsonian museums along the south side of the Mall — including the Hirshhorn Museum, the National Air and Space Museum, the U.S. Holocaust Museum, and the Museum of the American Indian — as well as L'Enfant Plaza and a large concentration of federal office buildings for Executive Branch departments and the U.S. House of Representatives;
the Southwest Waterfront, between I-395 and the Potomac River, a residential neighborhood that is home to the Maine Ave Fish Market, Arena Stage, the Washington Marina, and Hains Point; East and West Potomac Park, a conjunction of two national parks between I-395 and the National Mall that contain the Tidal Basin, the Jefferson Memorial;
The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial (West Potomac Park continues into Northwest and includes the Lincoln Memorial and World War II Memorial, both of which straddle the Southwest/Northwest boundary); and the area south and east of the Anacostia River containing Bolling Air Force Base, the military installation which together with Naval District Washington, Naval Research Laboratory, and Blue Plains sewage treatment plant occupies all of the Southwest land between South Capitol Street (to the east) and the Anacostia River (to the west).
Caution: The immediate neighborhood surrounding the townhome has undergone a transition in the past several years to become up and coming area to live due to many new developments nearby including the New Nationals Baseball Park, but currently is still urban.

We're back in a very tropical Manila, dreaming of the low humidity in DC...
Just wanted to say thanks for making our stay in DC so carefree. Jim was incredibly patient with us, the House was much bigger and nicer than I had imagined, and I put all the washing machines and dryers in the kitchen to good use! And all that without any hassles on your part. Brilliant.

Just wanted to thank you for the perfect house we had for our visit to DC. The location was beautiful. Also it was close to the metro and only two stops from The Mall. It was quiet and clean. We had everything we needed plus having the computer in the house was definitely an appreciated 'extra.' We have raved about the townhome to our friends and hope that some of us will have the luxury of enjoying the DC townhome some day.

We can not say enough about our accommodations and your hospitality both were terrific The House location with a Safeway, Pharmacy and the Metro just a few blocks away, the street made easy access for our needs and travel. A short walk to a enjoyable river front cafe made our evenings relaxing. The house was awesome - spacious, clean, comfortable. All made for our family's DC experience a terrific one thank you - we will be back!

The Owner purchased this townhome in 2010
Great location to everything in Washington, DC and her surrounds.
Convenient to shopping and DC Metro/ Subway system, of course, to see one or two or a series of Washington Nationals Baseball game.
Within the center of poliical life and yet easily accessible to all major roads. Loved the off street parking and the close proximity to the Waterside Metro station. Facility is well stocked and has great wi-fi and TV availability. Beds were comfortable and kitchen very functional. This is my fifth time staying here and I will certainly make it a sixth in the near future.
This location is an excellent value for the money, it is close to 2 metro stops, within walking distance. However, I would choose the Navy Yard stop, it's closer and relatively safer. If you decide to use the Waterfront stop you will have to walk through a housing project that is questionable during the daytime and real scary at nighttime. My wife, sister-in-law and myself were the subject of offensive verbal comments from local residents when we walked back at night and we did have concerns for our safety so we chose not to walk that route again after several incidents.
Upon entering the residence we were surprised at the space, it had been raining for several days prior to our arrival and the afternoon we did get there it was during a heavy downpour and there is a small leak in the skylight by the stairs but other than that it was great.
Due to the location of the residence there was constant police activity during the day and night on neighboring streets, I personally witnessed several drug transactions at the neighborhood store, however the immediate neighbors were great and friendly.
If you're looking to visit DC and are on a budget, this would be a great location to consider, it was clean, spacious, close to metro stops and is on a bus line.
We have stayed at this beautiful townhome for couple a days and without any doubt would highly recommend it to anyone who comes to DC. The unit has outstanding quality, just as described.
Tina and Jim was very helpful, thanks again.
The Condo itself is in great condition with many upgrades, nice beds and everything you will need...but we arrived very early spring and they had yet to do any yard work, so the back patio was completely over grown. They had several furniture pieces that need immediate attention...luckily they are not fussy about those things. I left them a list and they intend to get things fixed right away. We had a great time and it is a convenient walk to where you want to be and especially if you want to be at the ball park. We actually went to tour Washington D.C. but caught a game our last night as the Braves were playing and they are our guys... Great night, the Braves won in over time. It really was great fun... we were able to catch the Metro to every where we wanted to tour without a hitch...enjoy your stay it's an easy no worries place. Headed to Seattle next month and that one sounds a little more fussy..:(
The unit was as advertised. A few issues with electronics and interior lighting were found upon check in which appears to have been left by the previous tenants. The owner was able to get them rectified within 24 hours. The location was very good to the Metro (5 blocks away) and grocery shopping. As mentioned by other reviews the unit is in an intercity urban community which is in a building upgrade. In 5 years this will be one of the best locations in DC once the shopping and commercial upgrades are completed. We have a suburban which fit nicely in the parking spot in the rear of the unit. Would highly recommend to families of all ages.
We had such a great time during our Spring Break vacation with our two kids, aged 13 and 11. We were very comfortable in the house and everything worked great. It was nice being able to make our breakfast in the kitchen each morning, rather than having to rush out to find a restaurant first thing each day. The photos absolutely matched the actual property - there were no surprises.
Before we left home, we bought SmartTrip metro cards for each of us to use, assuming we'd be using the trains fairly regularly to get out to Virginia, Mt Vernon, Arlington, etc. That turned out to be the best purchase in preparation for our vacation.
Once we were settled in to the house, we called Yellow Cab to take us to dinner. We had tried DC Taxi first, but they never showed up. We discovered later that the DC Metro bus #74 stops right down the street from the house and goes everywhere we needed to go – the metro station and grocery store a half-mile away, the National Mall/Smithsonian area, the L'Enfant Plaza metro station (which is the hub for most of the lines going everywhere around DC), the Verizon Center, etc. And at the end of each day – even after 10 pm – that bus dropped us off just a few feet from the front door – that meant we didn’t have to rent a car or take expensive taxis everywhere! It is definitely too far to walk into the downtown DC area, but with a bus (or car, or taxi) that's not an issue. There is also a “Friendly Food Market” grocery at the corner down the block.
The area is "urban" as others have mentioned, however we never experienced any issues during our stay. The area is relatively calm, and we were very comfortable once we got settled in. I would highly recommend this property to anyone I know.
Because of the laundry machines at the house, we were able to pack relatively light – we only took enough clothes for about 4 days for each of us, and we washed things so we could re-wear them in the 2nd half of the week.
Every restaurant we ate in was incredible, and I'd recommend them all: Rosa Mexicano, Clyde's, District Pi Pizzeria, L'Enfant Plaza Hotel restaurant and Dangerously Delicious Pies in DC; Grace's Mandarin in National Harbor, MD.
My kids favorite museums? The International Spy Museum and the Museum of Crime & Punishment. :)
We will definitely consider staying here again on our next trip to DC. Thanks so much to the owners for renting us their lovely home!
