The perfect place for a relaxing week

5 of 5
Submitted: February 24, 2013 Stayed: February 2013
My husband and I stayed in this smallest unit of the four. It's about the size of a nice hotel room, but with a full kitchen and a wonderful view out the big front window. The unit was clean and comfortable and quite well appointed, with access to a full laundry. We both feel that just hanging out at "our place" was one of the highlights of our week long trip. The breeze off the water keeps things comfortable even when the temps are high, and there's a nice shady tiki hut so pale Northerners can enjoy the patio area without burning. Pelicans roost in the mangroves just a few yards away from the house, and you can watch reef fish from the window. There aren't many amenities on Long Key (which we liked because it kept things quiet), but good restaurants and groceries are less than a 20 minute drive in either direction. Several nights we brought home take-out because the view from our table rivaled anything in the area. Long Key is very centrally located. We did an easy day trip down to Key West, and a fun day trip to Everglades National Park in the opposite direction as well (leave by 6AM to see the best birds). We also spent several days kayaking and hiking around Long Key State Park. Easy access to this park is one of the best benefits of staying here. This isn't the right spot for someone who wants to party, but if you want the sort of place where the stresses of work and the chill of winter just melt away, this is it.

Impressed! Best kept secret in the keys.

It's been a little over a year since we came down, but I'm still excited about our stay at Jerry's place on in the Keys. This place was so quite and so far away from the noise of all the tourists that constantly travel up and down the highway. It's in the back of a little known state park, so you don't get the boat traffic, but you get all of the scenery.

What's best is the owner and how he treats his guests. He's a great guy, who really goes above and beyond to make the place you stay feel like home. He's like an old friend you have known for years but haven't caught up with for a while who just wants to make sure everything is right.

Kayaks, life jackets, free netflix, free wireless and ipad usage, spices and oil in the kitchen (along with full cooking gear), and a newly renovated place with granite that certainly doesn't feel like "old Florida"- code for "hasn't been updated in 50 years).

You can also rent a boat across the street and dock it on the side of the property. He also feeds some pet snappers that you are not allowed to catch! :-)

We really feel like we lucked out with this place!

One note: It's miles to the nearest place to buy decent groceries at, pay attention as you drive down if you want to cook.

Thanks again, Jerry. We are planning on bringing the kids down one day.

Best,

Randy M

We fell in love with this place on the first day and did not want to leave. Well thought out , high quality furnishings, appointments and most accommodating. You will not have to bring anything. We are very active and enjoyed the quality Kayaks and snorkel equipment. I will refer this place to all I know and recommend to anyone thinking of going anywhere in the Keys.

Great quiet place to relax and recharge

This place is all that it is cracked up to be. It is kind of like a double duplex and we rented one of the bottom units that sleeps four. The patio is right on the water and you share the property with others that are staying there. It is not a problem because it is big enough to accomodate everyone there. Because there is so much to do in the area, we felt we had the place to ourselves much of the time. The kayaks and canoe were almost always available. The pictures in the website don't do it justice. We would surely go back. We went during Christmas vacation and the traffic can be a little heavy at times.

Believe Everything It Says!

Unbelievable! Better than represented in the ad. Quiet, peaceful yet interesting with rays, parrotfish, glow-in-the-dark tiny jellyfish, lobsters, and even a small shark moving in and out with the tides. Had everything we needed, very clean, very modern. Tiki hut, BBQ grill, kayaks located right outside the door also. Only minus-may be too secluded for some. About 25 minutes from a grocery store, 60-90 minutes from Key West. Plus- the marina down the street rents pontoons and waverunners for the best prices anywhere. Only resturant on the key is closed but due to open again soon. This really is backed by park property, is shown accurately in the photos, so don't expect any beach right there, just quiet entertainment watching the fish go by. It has my highest praise!
