Married Professionals w/ weekend house we have enjoyed for many years. Nice redfish at sunset on the dock on the ICW in back of home. Treat this place like it were yours. We do and we love it.
The Owner purchased this house in 2000
I chose this place for my family to enjoy with its peaceful ambiance, and we have for nearly 14 years. We began rentals after 9 years of ownership. It is one of a kind, really fine and 1 hour from Downtown Houston. It is an end destination, at the end of an island with no pass through traffic. Peace and quiet.
Beauty and serinity. The beach, the canal, the wildlife refuge, the island. Surfing, fishing, boating, crabbing and fishing on our dock. Serious birding, Beach cruises in the 4x4, waterskiing, wake boarding, jet skiing, atvs down the beach, cooking, parties, walking the beach, hanging on the decks, sunsets, sunrises, the moon and stars.
We had a fabulous family weekend and enjoyed your home in Sargent immensely. Such a great place!
Beautiful views from the front and back. Great dock for our boat. My son loved riding our Jetski on the ICW. The house had everything you need. It was like staying at a friends house. Very comfortable, very relaxing. Downstairs is separated so it was just the right amount of privacy. Everyone can be together or have some space. The only things that weren't great were nature related-seaweed on the beach and mosquitos. We still had a wonderful time. We are looking forward to renting again.
We came back for another visit with my wife's parents. As usual, we had a great time. House has a fantastic location and we enjoy the sunrises over the beach and the sunsets over the ICW. We also get a kick out of watching the huge barges going back and forth. Thursday night we enjoyed a dinner at the Blue Gecko. Nothing is fried there. Try the crab cakes. Get Tiger, the owner, to pull out the plans for the new bridge. On Sunday, we packed up for home and stopped at the Crab Trap for lunch. BLTs were made with lots of bacon. Wife's fried shrimp and my crab cakes were both excellent.
Fishing report: the ICW was pretty sweet from all the rains. Still did well with the crab traps. Surf fishing was impossible because of the amount of Sargasso weed in the water and on the beach. However, on Saturday I hit East Matagorda Bay with Capt. Gene Allen, Living Waters Guide Service, and we cleaned up. We caught a lot of trout, a few redfish, croakers, gafftops and a lot of hardheads and a ladyfish.
My family enjoyed Christmas and New Years at this very comfortable beach house. It was really fun to watch the barges and tugboats out the back windows and to feed seagulls off the back deck AND see the sun coming up over the beach through the front windows and giant front deck. There was plenty of room to spread out all of our stuff in the main living area upstairs, where we did all our cooking and tv football watching. King sized bedroom and large bath is in the top part of the house, with futons for more in the open family/living room. Downstairs also had lots of room with two bedrooms and a kitchen and living space. This is a place you can be comfortable in, it's not fancy, it's just homey and has everything you need for a good family outing. We really enjoyed the long walks on the shell filled beach.
It was too cold for us to go fishing but we did see some hard core fishing neighbors catch some keeper reds with surf rods. The sunsets over the ICW are spectacular with pelicans, spoonbills, seagulls, and herons. I'd highly recommend this house for families with kids and pets. I'll be renting it again with a bunch of friends when the weather gets warm. If you golf, the Wilderness Golf Course is 30 minutes away, and there's a nice liquor store and a grocery stock Texaco on the way back to the swing bridge, which is very unique in itself. The owners were quick to respond to our questions before and during our stay. Enjoy this one, it's a real find.
I booked this house for a vacation with my siblings and our families. We had a total of six adults between the ages of 25 and 32, and two 8 month-olds, and there was plenty of room for everyone. The location was quiet, but very entertaining. We enjoyed watching all of the traffic in the canal, but the dolphins in there were ever more interesting. The beach was great for swimming and leisurely walks, and was so close we ventured out a few times after laying the babies down. The house was exactly as the pictures portrayed. It was clean and had everything we needed for our stay.
There was a minor issues with an A/C unit, but an email to the owner and it was completely resolved by the next day. I would definitely recommend bringing bug repellent; the mosquitoes might have just been bad from the recent rains, but they did keep us from enjoying the back patio for most of the trip (they weren't a problem inside or at the beach though).
All in all, we had a great time there. I will definitely be back in the future.
This place is great. We were here last summer and it just gets better. The boys love the dock out back they can fish all night and I don't have to worry where they are. It is a nice quiet place. The beach is also great not too many people lots of quiet and relaxation time. I would say this is one of the best places we have stayed at. The views from the decks are awesome.
We have 4 small children and really enjoyed this house. There were safety gates on both front and back porches, a playground with a steep slide that became a favorite with the kids (especially after we added a small kids pool at the bottom), and 2 large bins of toys and games. My husband I loved that we could put the babies to bed and bring the monitor to the dock and fish and crab together. Our boys quickly discovered that if they waved at the large boats passing by the captains would sound their horns. So between the boats, toys, fishing, and slide our kids were completely entertained. We took one day and drove into Galveston to visit Moody Gardens and shop a bit, but we all really missed the house.
The beach, Intracoastal Water Canal ICW, the wildlife refuge, crabbing and fishing on our dock, 4x4 on miles of unimproved beach, walking the beach, boating, waterskiing, wake boarding, offshore fishing, bay fishing, hanging on the decks, birding, sunsets, sun rises, the moon, the stars (telescope provided). Home is near end of Dead End Road. Very Quiet.
