Ultimate Getaway for Two
Review Submitted: March 22, 2009
Date of Stay: October 2008
My wife and I spent 9 days in Maui in Oct. 08 We Stayed in a Wailea resort the first 5 days. Great hotels, restaurants, shopping, beaches, but not very private. I am so glad we decided to stay somewhere more peaceful for the end of our vacation. The drive to Hamoa Bay house along the Hana Highway alone is worth the trip. Once you park your car and step through the flower covered gate into the house gardens you're pretty sure you made a good choice. Once you step into the house you're sure you did.
The whole house just whispers to you and says "Relax"
Just a great "Homey" feel. Clean, well appointed, well stocked. I even found fresh Kona coffee beans in the fridge. { Don't know if that is standered or left by another guest } and a coffee grinder on the counter. The master bedroom is bright and comfortable. Half the room is open windows that let in the breezes and bird song. One night I woke to a heavy rain. Laying there with my eyes closed listening to the rain falling on the roof and the palm trees I really felt so good, calm and peaceful. I wanted to stay up and just listen, but the sounds and the breeze rocked me back to sleep. My wife loved the deep cement tub with the huge window the looks out to the gardens. Personally I never used it. Why look out into the garden when you can shower IN the garden? The lava rock shower { Yes it has hot water } was the BEST. Moss covered rocks on two sides,Twenty foot bamboo stand on another, and a avacado tree groaning with ripe fruit next to it. Our favorite room was the sceened in porch. A huge futon with a dozen over stuffed pillows on it, and a large dinning room table. Plug in your IPod in the house stereo, open a bottle of wine, lay on the futon and listen to the birds and smell the flowers. You'll never want to get up. If you can tear yourself away I can highly recommend powered hang gliding at the Hana airport. Ask for Armand. He will take you up for the time of your life. DON'T miss Ohe'o Gulch, Take the trail through the bamboo forest to 400' Waimoku falls. Hamoa beach is very close as is the Venus pool. If you go to the Venus pool Don't miss the SECLUDED black sand beach about 400' west up the shore. You can get anything you need at Hasegawas general store up the street. One small warning. If you walk into the bannana tree stand { next to the HUGE banyan tree } Slather yourself with OFF. The mosqitoes tried to carry me away. This house is perfect for a romantic getaway. Aloha
