Overview

Rhododendron Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

The 'Bon Fir Cabin' is a beautifully restored 1930's cabin located in the foothills of Mount Hood. It is just 43 Miles from the Portland airport, less than a mile from the Mount Hood Wilderness Area, and a three minute walk from the Zig Zag River. The original native fir floors, cedar siding and vaulted ceiling throughout help it retain it's historic charm. The cabin is fully equipped with a modernized kitchen, cozy wood stove, a queen bed, and a four person hot tub. The Bon Fir sits on a large wooded lot with plenty of room to relax.

The cabin has only one bedroom with a queen bed. Also, the couch in the living room pulls out to a surprisingly comfortable queen hideabed. The bathroom has a full-size front loading washer and dryer, and an antique clawfoot tub with a shower. The four person jetted hot tub is built into the deck to soak your bones after a long day of fun.

About Martin

I was born in Oregon and I like all kinds of outdoor activities. I hike, bike, surf, run, rock climb, ski, fish, raft, and camp. I write and play music. Nothing is better than great friends, great beer, and great food. I live in Portland, Oregon. Other than managing cabins, I work full time as an electrical engineer at Intel designing the worlds most advanced computer chips. I'm involved in several community gardens in NE Portland.

Martin purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Martin chose Rhododendron

I bought this cabin because I wanted a place close to Mount Hood and I love the outdoors. As soon as I walked inside I fell in love. The dark wood paneling and the vaulted cedar ceilings give the cabin a beautiful historic feel. The deck is huge and the hot tub is a great bonus.

What makes this cabin unique

I like to get a fire blazing in the wood stove and play games with friends. The tall trees and large lot give a sense of space that contrasts with my otherwise urban life. I like to play old records on the record player.

Bon Fir

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I decided to stay in a cabin for a nice relaxing anniversary trip. We could not have picked a better cabin. It was clean, well decorated, and obviously well maintained. The owner definitely takes pride in his property. We are looking forward to our next opportunity to stay in this cabin.

Perfect Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I chose this cabin as our honeymoon destination, and we were not disappointed! Everything is as good as advertised. The interior is nice and homey, the hot tub was perfect after hikes (there are some fantastic ones in the area), and we loved having fires in the wood stove. The internet works, everything in the kitchen works, and the bed is one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in. The owner was very friendly and helpful. We are excited to come back someday, and would recommend it to anyone!

Quiet, comfortable and accessible

  • 5 of 5

Location is a quiet forest. You can hear the river. You cannot hear the highway ;)

A couple of houses close by, but didn't hear a peep.

We couldn't manage to get the wood burning stove going. I'm no boy scout, but I read the directions and tried both the teepee and build-a-house methods. Nada.

We didn't try any of the restaurants.

Bring your own coffee. There are two espresso spots up the road towards Timberline, but they're both awful.

Fantastic stay in the woods of Mount Hood

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Martin for a fantastic stay in the mountain woods. We loved the rustic feel of cabin with the right amount of creature comforts. Our favorite things about the cabin were the hot tub for resting the tired bones after long hikes on the face of the mountain, the comfortable cushy bed to rest the relaxed bones, and the great vinyl collection for chilling out. Love being able to listen to Stevie Wonder, Led Zep, Paul Simon, Willie and Waylon and much more while hanging out in the cabin.

Also, the location was great for access to all the trails in the Mt Hood forest, the Zig Zag Ranger Station for trail maps (half mile away and so friendly), tthe Timberline Lodge, and the Thriftway grocery and restaurants in Welches (about 1 mile).

Only problem was we only got to stay 2 nights and the Skyline Bar and Grill was closed the 2 nights we were there but that was no fault to the cabin. Visit the Rendezvous Grill in case this happens to you as well, great dinner.

Thanks Martin, we will definitely be returning again for our next visit to the Oregon Mountains.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was perfect, just as described or better. The hot tub is fabulous. Truly enjoyed staying here! The whole place is really conveniently located as well, only about an hour from downtown Portland, and only minutes away from incredibly beautiful trails all up and down the mountain. The Ramona Falls trail is a fantastic one!

Thanks so much for a great honeymoon location!
