Beautiful 4 BR BEACH FRONT home, 4 Baths, Sleeps 10, Hot Tub and pool

This beautiful home is spacious (2200 square feet) and light and the view cannot be matched. It's a true sanctuary with its cathedral ceilings, endless windows and memorable views. Watch the dolphins while you flip your breakfast pancakes.

After breakfast you can stroll down the boardwalk to the sand dune bridge where there is a private sitting area to finish that 2nd cup of coffee and watch the birds and sea life or, you may be in a hurry to set up your umbrella in front of the house on the semi-private beach, that is rarely crowded! You may also want to wander over to our semi-private in-ground pool and patio where you can swim and sunbathe without the sand and the salt.

Enjoy a fabulous meal at one of our island's several top notch restaurants,then relax in our hot tub while experiencing the sounds of the pounding surf and the beauty of the moon and stars and even an occasional meteor or two!

Each room has its own beauty and personality. The open porch and deck offers the opportunity for a family dinner or cocktail hour while enjoying refreshing ocean breezes.

A non-smoking policy in the house keeps this a true sanctuary by the sea. Call as soon as you know when you may want to come for best selection of available dates. We don't mind a well behaved pet or two! Please let us know if you are thinking of bringing one of your more hirsute loved ones!

You can't beat this nice wide beach with plenty of dunes harboring wildflowers and sea oats and occasional Ospreys. It is never crowded. Excellent restaurants are sprinkled liberally in close proximity. American history is here for the viewing as well. Live music of all kinds, fine art galleries, some of the best antique stores in the country on historic King Street...I could go on and often do....

Besides the view?! Hot tub, private beach paths and a full size pool that you most always have to yourself, (selves).

Great Beachfront House

Spent a wonderful week in this ocean front home. Location can't get any better and the views were fabulous. Home has a comfy feel and we didn't lack for anything. Special treat to be able to bring our four legged family member too. To find a beach front property in this price range was a bonus and we made the most of the easy access. Property was a perfect fit for our family of 6, with even room for a couple mid week guests. Great outside decks and covered eating area too. While not a luxury property, it is clean, comfortable, well stocked and you'll feel right at home.

A Beautiful Home

What a wonderful experience. The house was fantastically clean. The kitchen had more appliances, dishes, and cooking utensils (all spotless) than we needed. The bath/beach towels were large and fluffy. The beds and linens were so comfortable that I could not believe this was a "beach" house. When we arrived, the owner (Meg) was outside planting flowers. Additionally, Meg was always available to us when we had questions about local shopping, restaurants, and transportation. This house became our home, and all we had to do was add food and beverages. I have recommended this house to several folks and would not hesitate to go back.

I don't know why anyone would say the things in the one negative review that appears also to be from a stay last year. Drain plugs? Really? I found the house perfectly suited for my wife and I and my dog certainly liked it too! I did not see any spiders nor do I think an occasional spider hiding in a closet is avoidable or something you can blame the owner for. I guess you could soak the house in poison to make sure one spider would not get to the closet! Ridiculous. I liked the master bedroom with the hot tub three steps away on the porch and the bed was fine. The cabinets look new and are not the same color as the ones in the photo so I guess they are new. Towels and sheets were clean and fresh and there was actually a bit of an overabundance of kitchenware. I don't know where you would put any more! I have a feeling, a strong feeling, that there was more wrong with that one guest than there was with this house. I just felt the need to respond to that one review although I see that all the other reviews are pretty good! I am in the restaurant business. I think some people derive pleasure out of being unhappy. They'd rather stomp away mad than tell you what would make them happy. This guy who recently posted a bad review about a stay back in July might be one of those.

Party Pooper Comment about the house...

After reading the other reviews... I wonder if we're talking about the same place. In fact...I really appreciate the fact that it's DIRECTLY on the beach, however the location is greatly minimized by the condition of the house. And my comments are almost idential to the other 2-Star review. But my comments are problably more detailed - in that our family began a list of things - while we were there - so as not to forget some of what we experienced. And for refernce... we stayed there in the Summer of 2011, however I would be surprised if much as changed since then. So here goes...
1. Spiders in a closet ( not a good start with small girls in the family).
2. Soured towels in the Kitchen Drawer.
3. Shower Head in the master bath is unadjustable and is about to fall off.
4. Drain in upstairs tub was clogged.
5. Old ice maker in Kitchen is 'gutted out' and obvously inoperable.
6. Ice maker in the Freezer in the Kitchen didn't work.
7. Leak under the kitchen sink - causing a damp/stale odor.
8. No drain plug in upstairs bathroom sink.
9, No drain plug in master bathroom sink.
10. Downstairs bathroom sink can only be drained by holding up the drain cylinder.
11. Air Condition did not work properly.
12. Kitchen cabinets were old, cheap, and had a foul odor ( one of our favorites ).
13. Dryer didn't work well and took an eternity to dry clothes.
14. The key only unlocked the Front door - not the back.
15. Upstairs vanity was too small to hold things.
16. None of the decor in the house matched (Cluttered pictures & figurines covering every spuare foot of the house). It was similar to a Cracker Barrel - gone bad.
17. Queen Bed upstairs - sagged in the middle.
18. Queen bed in Master BR - hard & uncomfortable.
19. Not enough towels.
20. Sheets & Bedding - cheap & poor quality.
21. TV remote in Den wouldn't adjust volume.
22. Up & Down B.R. TV - No Remotes
23. Kitchen utensils were cheap and insufficient qty.
24. Dirty Dishes in kitchen cabinets when we arrived.
25. Quilts in upstairs chest had a terrible odor.
26. TV in Den is small & hard to see.
27. The laundry room ceiling collapsed due to a condensation leak from the A/C.
In closing... Had we known the condition of the house... we wouldn't have stayed there. We've stayed an beach front houses and condos for 30 years and this was a huge disappointment. But to not leave on a completely negative note... the Beach was NICE, the gas gill worked, and there was plenty of parking.

Owner's Response: I am always interested to read feedback about The Sanctuary by a Sea, although it is not helpful to read it 10 months after the fact. If I had heard from the guests 10 minutes after the issues came up they would have been resolved in hours leaving more time for the guests to laugh and relax on the beach and make less lists. I have a full stable of service people on call that would have assisted immediately. I am known for my sincere concern for my guests well-being and enjoyment. I quickly respond to all problems as I want my guests to be happy.

As for the interior decorating, most of my numerous returning guests enjoy the sea shells, fresh flowers and beach decor. If empty end tables are desired I would like my guests to feel free to put away, in a drawer or a closet, anything that is in their way. By all means, make it your personal vacation home while you visit! Naturally since I never heard from these guests I assumed all was well. We never spoke after check-in. Imagine how surprised I was to read in the review "we stayed in the summer (May) of 2011 however I would be surprised if much has changed since then.".

This guest who didn't even talk with me doesn't know that I continually work to make the house the best on the beach! This is why I am one of the most popular rentals on the beach. Come see for yourself before you book. Check out the house, the fabulous view, the pool, hot tub. I would love to meet you. I will do my best to make your vacation memorable.

GREAT girlfriend getaway....

Even though I live nearby, myself and three other girlfriends from out of of town rented Meg's place in September. Everything was wonderful, from the spectacular views and the three different porches. We all had our own bed and bath and the kitchen was well appointed. It was great to have both a covered and non-covered porch, as the cover came in handy one night when it rained. The location can't be beat - just around the corner from the Morgan Creek Grill (one of my favorite restaurants in the area). There were a few minor issues which Meg addressed immediately and you couldn't ask for a better hostess. The wireless computer access worked perfectly, it was quiet sleeping and just wonderful to wake up to a beautiful sunrise. Two of us even spent the night on the outdoor porch in the lounge chairs which was something I haven't done since I was a kid. I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat and will likely be back with other family members next year. Oh, and being pet friendly was great...my dog LOVED it!! She was back home with Dad, but he brought her to visit a few times :)

Great Ocean Front Home!

Our family of 10 stayed at this house for a week and we had a great time! Meg was an exceptional hostess, and made sure we had everything we needed! The house was even ready before the time it was promised! Below are some notes for future renters: -The pool is actually shared with 12 other houses. It is very small (about the size of a backyard pool) and is not ocean front. This did not seem to be a problem for our family, and we noticed that is was seldom used by others as well. -The outdoor lounging area below the house is great! The hammock needs to be replaced, but the picnic table and other furniture is perfect for enjoying the ocean breeze! -There are tons of beach chairs and beach toys to use, as well as boogie boards and a few umbrellas! The grills were also a bonus…there was a nice gas grill, and a large charcoal grill. -The outdoor shower was nice to use, and a great private place to shower after a day on the beach. -The description says that 6 cars will fit underneath the house, which I don’t think is accurate. We had 3 cars that fit nicely, but I don’t think 6 cars would fit. Only 2 cars actually fit underneath the house. -The kitchen was well stocked, but lacks plastic dishes, such as Tupperware or plastic cups. Everything in the kitchen worked well.
-The living room was a nice size, and the views of the ocean were phenomenal. We saw deer in the dunes, and dolphins in the ocean. -We noticed that the house had a LOT of bugs. I think an exterminator could eliminate this problem, but we did seem to be killing bugs a lot.
-The outdoor decks were great…very comfortable seating, and incredible views! -2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms downstairs/main level: one bedroom had 2 twin beds, and a LOT of toys for kids. The TV in the twin room did not work right, but was hooked up to cable. This room is perfect for kids. This room has access to a full size bathroom, right outside the room. The other downstairs bedroom has a queen bed, large walk-in closet, and bathroom. This room also has a deck (where the hot tub is) and an ocean view. Neither of these rooms had any empty drawers to unpack things, if you wanted to do so. They did have a LOT of extra blankets though! -2 Bedrooms upstairs: The blue room is upstairs and has a queen bed also, the blue room does not have its own bathroom though. The other bedroom upstairs also has a queen bed. There is also a sofa bed in that bedroom, and it is the largest bedroom.

Future guests, please make me aware of any concerns you have as they come up because it is very frustrating to read about it in a review when I can no longer serve you. IT IS MY HIGHEST GOAL TO DO EVERYTHING I CAN TO MAKE YOUR VACATION MEMORABLE!! This is why I have mostly return visitors. I feel it is a privilege to serve you as I consider every guest that I have part of the fabric that makes up the history of this very special Sanctuary by the sea. For instance, I didn't know there was a bug problem; I received the information by voicemail as my guests were preparing to leave at the end of the week. The exterminator was there immediately but the problem was already history; because of the drought the island has suffered a problem with swarms of flying ants. Their cycle was finished by the time I learned about it. All other issues that were brought up in this review have been rectified. There are 2 driveways at the house each holds 3 cars or a boat and 2 cars. Only 1 car on each side is completely under cover. Upstairs there are two full private bathrooms with a jack and jill shower between them. This serves the two bedrooms on the second floor. If both bedrooms need to take a shower at the same time my favorite shower is always available. The large shower at the foot of the stairs in the bathhouse outside. If you care to be my guest PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO CALL ME WITH ANY AND ALL CONCERNS AND NEEDS YOU MIGHT HAVE. IT IS MY PRIVILEGE TO SERVE YOU! Meg Kivett, owner
