Papakea is a 13 acre oceanfront resort with a true feeling of aloha. The resort is comprised of two sets of low-rise buildings, each with its own oceanfront pool area including a spa, a covered cabana and 12 gas barbecues. Papakea also has two large putting greens, two shuffleboard courts, three lighted tennis courts and a number of beautiful koi ponds. The resort offers free wireless Internet access and there is a Shakanet Internet kiosk in the front lobby. The golf courses of Kapalua and Kaanapali are nearby, and great snorkeling and boogie-boarding beaches are within walking distance. Our 3BD/2BA ocean view condo was completely remodeled in 2005 with top-of-the-line cabinets and appliances. The unit is air-conditioned and also has ceiling fans in all the bedrooms. Sip a Mai-Tai on your private lanai and enjoy the beautiful views of the pool, the beach and the island of Molokai. Or, keep an eye on your husband as he cooks dinner on one of the poolside barbecues.

The Honokowai Marketplace is just across the street, with a grocery store, a dive shop and a number of casual eateries.

  • Both bathrooms were remodeled in 2005, with new tile, glass walk-in showers and separate vanity areas.

  • The spacious master bedroom has a full ocean view and a fabulous king size bed with a pillow-top mattress. The en suite bathroom contains a lovely glass walk-in shower separated from the mirrored vanity area by a sliding door. The bedroom has ample dresser and closet space and a 20 inch flat screen TV. A hair dryer is provided, as are all the linens, including beach towels. The second bedroom on the main level has one queen and one twin bed, each with a comfy plush mattress. It also has ample closet and dresser space and a flat screen TV. The remodeled guest bathroom is just outside the door, with separate shower and vanity areas. The loft bedroom overlooks the living area and the Papakea grounds beyond. It has a queen size bed, as well as a separate sitting area with a queen sleeper sofa, satellite TV, DVD and CD player. Great for the kids!

Activities: While you're at Papakea, try UFO Para sailing on Kaanapali Beach or Pacific Whale Foundation whale watching tours in Lahaina. Also in Lahaina, you can board a ferry to visit the neighbor islands of Molokai or Lanai. Or, drive to Hana - it's a long drive, but a beautiful one. If you're more interested in shopping, visit nearby Whaler's Village, Lahaina Cannery Mall, or the old whaling town of Lahaina.

Beaches: Papakea is fronted by a narrow beach that's great for the little ones, or there is a much wider beach just steps away. Nearby, Napili Bay is a beautiful white sand crescent beach 5 minutes up the road, or drive a little farther and check out the snorkeling at Kapalua. Just south of Papakea is Kaanapali Beach, which is great for boogie-boarding and can be accessed easily by parking in the Whalers Village parking lot. There is good snorkeling at the north end, around Black Rock, but Kahekili Beach Park is where we usually go to snorkel. Depending on conditions, you may be able to boogie-board here too. And of course, kids can play in the sand at any of Maui's great beaches. Maui no ka oi!

Exercise at Papakea: Papakea offers regular yoga classes and aquaerobics, free of charge. Papakea guests have access, for a fee, to the gym at Kaanapali Shores, right next door.

Golf: If you like to golf, try one of the courses at Kapalua or Kaanapali. All are within a ten minute drive from Papakea. Or, take the ferry over to Lanai and play The Experience at Koele (upcountry) or The Challenge at Manele (ocean).

Other Activities: boogie-boarding, windsurfing, whale-watching, jet-skiing, parasailing, kite-surfing, shopping

We have had a wonderful time in K404 at the Papakea. We have returned to the Papakea for 11 years and this is by far the nicest unit ever. We have friends and family in three other units and none compare! Thank you to Carol and Mike for making our stay better than ever. The kitchen is magnficient and the newly remodeled bathrooms are awesome! Mahalo

I would like to let everyone know what a wonderful place this is to stay.Carol and Mike have thought of everything that you will ever need on a vacation.The Condo was perfect, very clean, updated and extremely well stocked. There is a beautiful view of the pool and water and there is nothing better than breakfast on the deck with the waves breaking in the back ground. I have been to Maui and stayed in private condos at least six other times and this is by far the best.We will be planning our next trip back very shortly.If you want a nice relaxing vacation that is close to everything this is the place to be. Our only complaint was we should have stayed four weeks instead of two!

Better than We Ever Imagined!

This condo was an excellent place to stay during our first trip to Maui. Our family of 6 (w/ four adult children) were very comfortable and the condo's floor plan offers enough space for gathering together as well as areas to escape for some privacy. From our first conversations with the owners until we closed the door to leave for home, everything more than met our expectations. The Papakea resort location is right on Kaanapali beach and is close to shopping, golfing, restaurants, and sightseeing. The Maui bus stop is at the resort next door and with a little planning, one can travel nearly anywhere via the bus. The resort offers free yoga and swim-fitness classes as well as a host of other activities on their beautifully landscaped grounds. The immaculate condo has a beautiful and well-equipped kitchen, cable tv in nearly every room, dvd movies and games, and comfortable furniture (including the beds). The owners have compiled a notebook of "everything Maui" and have available a guest book for guests to sign. We so much appreciated reading the tips from everyone.

I think our favorites in Maui were the morning sunrise at Haleakala (complete with ice and a few patches of snow to remind us of MN), touring the historic sights, the circle of Aloha during Sunday morning service at Lahaina Methodist church, snorkeling (we loved Snorkel Bob's for equipment) at Big Beach and Black Rock, hiking in Iao Valley State Park, surfing with Maui Wave Riders, whale watching with the Pacific Whale Foundation, the Old Lahaina Luau, shopping in Lahaina, walking on the beach boardwalk, and just being lulled to sleep with the sounds of the ocean and waking to the songs of the birds. Being a master gardener in Minnesota, I loved noticing the flowers, trees, and shrubs and wished I had studied up a bit on my Hawaii horticulture before our visit. There were several things we didn't have time to see so I think I need to start planning our next visit!

This is a great place to stay and we highly recommend it!

As Good As It Gets

My husband and I celebrated our 40th anniversary here and shared this unit with our daughter, son-in-law & year old grandson. We just couldn't have been happier with this unit. We've stayed in many units at Papakea & this was our favorite. We loved the view overlooking the pool, grounds, the ocean & Molokai. The unit itself was perfect - - - clean, well-maintained & had every extra you could ask for, including beach chairs, umbrellas etc etc.
We would highly recommend it. Our favorite restaurants are The Plantation House (get there for the sunset) & find Hali'imaile is worth driving over to Kahului for. We also love going to The Gazebo up at Napili Shores for their breakfasts. Hula Grill at the Whaler's is great for lunch!
One of our favorite things to do is to take the ferry over to Lanai for the day & either play golf or just go for lunch & spend the day between the two resorts. Our anniversary just couldn't have been more special & much of that was thanks to staying in this beautiful unit.
