This home is a rare find. From the moment you enter, your senses are overwhelmed by the natural beauty all around you. This retreat is situated on a 40 foot cliff overlooking Lake Superior. Local folks call it "the glass house" due to the 180 degree views of Lake Superior.

Close enough to the Lutsen Ski Resort to enjoy all the amenities yet far enough to be away from all the crowds for some quiet time. The exterior walls are 65% windows with views of the lake and woods. A 10 by 15 foot skylight washes the main room with light. The total effect is that you are inside but feel at one with nature.

In the Great Room is a full kitchen, two dining areas, a gas fireplace, and a wonderful couch area under the skylight. The windows, with a beautiful view of the water, are framed with window seating. Under the window seats are many books sure to interest every reader, plus many games for the whole family to play. The bedrooms, which are separated by the Great Room, have queen beds and private full bathrooms. The master bath has a steam shower plus a whirlpool, over-sized, deep-soaking bathtub that overlooks the lake.

Directly on Lake Superior this home is 2 miles away from the Lutsen Ski Resort with its 18 hole golf course, alpine slide and many activities. A peregrine falcon nesting place is near by. Grand Marais is 18 miles further down the highway providing water activities and where a number of artists spend creative hours. The gunflint trail starts in that town and the boundary water canoe trips are legendary.

We had a great time at Horizons. It was a nice vacation home with many amenities. It had a great kitchen space, open floor plan, great jacuzzi and steam shower, and a beautiful view! The furniture and decor was dated but over all a nice place to escape the everyday hustle and bustle and enjoy the peace and quiet on the lake with my new husband. There are lots of things to see and do near by as well. We would recommend Cascade Falls Park to everyone - it was beautiful and a very short drive from the house. Split Rock Lighthouse was fun too!

Thanksgiving Memories

We had a wonderful stay here last Thanksgiving with our adult "kids"!!! The home is warm and beautiful, secluded for privacy. Took a nice walk up the road...enjoyed the sun on the lake. There aren't enough words to say how much we enjoyed it! Looking forward to another stay soon!!

Beautiful setting on Lake Superior

Horizon House is a beautiful space for quiet contemplation, creativity, cooking, and entertaining. Pictures don't do it justice. The house is perched on a bluff overlooking Lake Superior, with sweeping vistas from the south-facing wall of windows. A huge skylight in the great room brings in a lot of natural light, but it does get rather warm during the day as there is no central air conditioning and no way to shade the skylight. The house is located just off Hwy 61, so we were little concerned about traffic noise, but we were happy to find that it was quiet and peaceful during our entire visit. We would definitely return to Horizon House.
