Rental periods are weekly from Saturday afternoon at 3PM until Saturday morning 10AM. Your bed linens, towels, soaps, paper products, trash bags, and toiletries are all you will need for an unforgettable holiday!
The lake caters to all types, from those yearning for peace and solitude to those desiring fast-paced activities and local culture. Curl up with a good book on the covered deck, bask in the sun on the dock, or enjoy a variety of activities such as sailing, swimming, water-skiing, fishing for champion striped bass or golfing. Mitchell's Marina is a short drive for launching boats, casual dining and tackle.
Amenities include four TVs (3 with cable), a DVD player and an assortment of games for adults and children. The home contains central heat and air conditioning and comfortably sleeps six (one queen each in two BR's; two twins in the third BR). Please note that no more than six persons over age two may occupy the house. No smoking or pets, please.
Getting There/General Area::
Mountain View Shores is in the northeast (Bedford county) area of SML, near the Dam. It is approximately 45 minutes by car from both Roanoke and Lynchburg (Virginia), three hours from Richmond, two hours from Greensboro (North Carolina) and 4.5 hours from Washington, DC. The closest (private) airport is Smith Mountain (7miles), with Roanoke Airport (45 minutes) offering commercial service. Other attractions: the National D-Day Memorial is located in the small town of Bedford, just a 30 minute drive. Bedford was once voted one of the top small towns to live in by a national magazine and merits a stop. Just beyond Bedford you can hike the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains or visit the lodge at Peaks of Otter. Other short drives include: 'Explore Park' near Roanoke, Thomas Jefferson's 'Poplar Forest' residence near Lynchburg, NASCAR's Martinsville race (held twice a year), Booker T. Washington and Jubal Early's childhood homes. Hickory Hill Winery at SML offers tours and tasting.
SML Attractions::
Nestled in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains, SML is developing a reputation as a premier vacation destination. Spread out over three counties in southwestern Virginia, this man-made lake covers 20,600 acres, and over 500 miles of shoreline. Among the many water activities at SML are power boating, canoeing, sailing, para sailing, swimming, fishing, water skiing, wake boarding, and jet skiing. The Smith Mountain lake front includes seven public boat launching sites and many public and private marinas offering boat rental, and casual/fine dining. SML State Park offers not only activities for water enthusiasts, but also hiking, picnic areas, and more. Golf enthusiasts have a choice of three public courses, and several private ones such as Westlake Country Club, Sycamore Ridge, and Mariner's Landing (which sometimes allow non-members). Call ahead for availability. The Lake is home to numerous summer festivals, so your visit is sure to coincide with one!
