The Tanager House is the uppermost villa of a private, gated community. This 4700 square foot contemporary tropical villa has 7 bedrooms with 8 1/2 baths and is spread over four fully terraced levels. Eastern and western design influences are evident throughout; the home is decorated with warm, exotic wood furniture, rich fabrics and ethnic accessories producing a tropical and luxurious effect. Upon arrival guests of Tanager House will be treated to complimentary fresh tropical flowers, wine, Costa Rican coffee, and a selection of the areas freshest tropical fruits. When you enter the home you are struck by a great sense of openness. The living, dining and kitchen areas are located on the entrance level and are enclosed by large windows and glass sliding doors. Outside the windows is a large deck that surrounds a pool and overlooks the rainforest, and miles and miles of pacific beach stretching to the north.

The second level has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a spacious master suite, all with 15-foot vaulted wood-beamed ceilings. The master suite has a private bathroom with Jacuzzi tub and beautiful, Balinese tile shower, private balcony and a queen size bed. The other bedrooms offer magnificent ocean, rain forest and sunset views. Bird and nature lovers will be enthralled by the diversity of tropical birds and other exotic animals. The Tanger house is visited by three species of monkeys: the Titi is one of the most endangered animals on earth but is abundant here, the White Faced monkey is one of the most intelligent, and the Howler is distinctive as being the second loudest animal in the world.

The lower level hosts the fourth and fifth bedrooms, each with separate entrances, a full bath and small kitchen. This may conveniently be used as a separate apartment unit. Additional amenities to enhance your stay include Cable TV, DVD and CD players and 5 air-conditioned bedrooms.

Green areas cover a large portion of private community in which the house is located including 5 km of hiking trails with small creeks, waterfalls and an observation tower. Guests can also visit the new Raindrop Spa, a beautifully appointed new day spa with outdoor gardens, located within easy walking distance on the same private property.

This is a great property!! I had a mini-family reunion here in July with 11 people and the property comfortably fitted us all. There are 3 BR in the main house and 3 suites with separate entrances: (1) 2-BR and full kitchen; (2) 1-BR with mini-kitchen; (3) 1-BR with no kitchen. The master bedroom contains the jacuzzi. The house is well-maintained with daily cleaning service. We totally enjoyed this house and it was very peaceful. We enjoyed being able to sit in the living room and still keep an eye on our young kids in the pool. The downside though is that there isn't much space around the pool to hang out. We had to keep the doors closest to the dining room and living room closed as the kids kept splashing in water. There was an abundance of wildlife around. No monkeys approached us as in the pics but we did see some as well as tons of amazing birds.

Richard was incredibly helpful with the tours. He booked the tours for us, which included transportation (we didn't rent a car). The only downside was with the mangrove tour. We didn't realize that lunch/dinner was included and the mangrove staff failed to provide it.

Definitely use Desiree as a chef. She cost a bit extra, but was worth it. Her meals were fantastic and provided peace-of-mind. We didn't have to worry about food for our entire stay. She worked with our schedule and with us on designing the menu.

I would definitely stay here again...I only wished that I had stayed longer.
